The Nautica might be a good hype since this will be Perodua's first CBU car, first 1.5 litre and definitely first to have such a hefty price tag.

But my question is, what happens next?

Is the public supposed to expect Perodua to churn out 1.6 or even 1.8 litre cars? I think the public will.

And will Perodua be able to deliver? This remains to be seen.

I respected Perodua because they created a niche market for themselves. Compact, no frills, affordable and cute. Now they are moving into Proton's ground by releasing a 1.5litre, and even creating some ripples in the Toyota and Honda market for the RM80k price tag.

The BIG BOYS didn't give much thought into conquering Perodua's land, because Perodua weren't threatening. They were just delivering to their small market, a market which the big boys didn't venture into. Now the plot has changed.

So where will Perodua stand after the release of the Nautica? What will be their positioning?

I don't know. But I can see it will be tough times ahead.
