Hi. Let me update wht is happening in australia. Sydney apple store just opened last thursday but the iphone is nowhere to be found in the store but according to the staffs in the genius lounge, they will sell the iphone 3G in apple store too starting 11/7 other than vodafone and optus store. And the price for both prepaid and postpaid plan for iphone 3G is not released yet by vodafone nor optus. But optus already stop receiving deposit for the pre-order coz the number of pre-order already reached 10,000 which optus said they dun have so much stocks on that day. And for vodafone, about 60,000 already pre-register it including me.

QUOTE(Apis_LuaLua @ Jun 23 2008, 07:16 PM) Sure. I am finger crossed waiting for iphone 3G to be released in Australia as well. But for the 1st generation iphone, the price has gone down drastically in Aus. 16GB only $599 dollar which means abt RM1800 while 8GB is only $499 which means abt RM1500. But i think it's better to get the first generation iphone coz it is not as expensive as before plus in malaysia, 3G and GPS are not that useful. Getting the new iphone 3G just for the sake of following the popularity is pretty naive considering that iphone 1st generation and iphone 3G are not much different anyway. |

QUOTE(youngkies @ Jun 23 2008, 10:04 PM) well it depends on some situation. All my frens got the 1st gen iphone for 189 pound in UK and then jailbroken it. It is likely u get pawned in UK. previously, yes you can get an iphone for gbp369. but what is the point of having phone but not having the minutes to call, free text messages and the free unlimited wifi connection deal specifically made by o2 fo iphone user. |

QUOTE(youngkies @ Jun 23 2008, 10:23 PM) 189 was for 8gb after the gbp100 reduction/special offer by carphonewarehouse sometime in march. i wasn't talking about the the gbp169 after special offer, but by general of how things work on contract. You are rite, UK ppl should feel lucky as O2 offers unlimited data plan with affordable price but in aus though, nothing is unlimited, the data plan is so expensive especially the new iphone 3G will consume a lot of data. QUOTE(cocklea @ Jun 23 2008, 10:45 PM) wowzer, 60k pre-register??? i have like what, 50? (Vodafone NZ employee here) In the Vodafone NZ website, at first they announced it to be released in both prepaid and postpaid but after a few minutes, they quickly edit the page to POSTPAID only. anyway, bad news for Vodafone NZ user. apparently they are only selling the iPhone 3G to On Account customers, which is the stupidest move ever. I'm still getting one though. Oh, and did I mention that i'm not paying retail? Before ![]() A few minutes later ![]() This post has been edited by mangoman: Jun 23 2008, 07:56 PM |

QUOTE(smokepsp32 @ Jun 25 2008, 10:47 AM) Apple's iPhone 3G To Go On Sale At 8:00AM On July 11th? IN australia, if u pre-order it with Optus by paying AUD100, u can go to take the iphone at 7am sharp which means 5am msia time. ![]() Don't take a vacation day just yet or anything, but early word has it that Apple's iPhone 3G will actually go on sale at 8:00AM (local time, most likely) on July 11th. If you'll recall (how could you forget, right?), the original iPhone didn't go on sale until 6:00PM on launch day, but considering that the whole checkout process will likely be a fair bit more involved this go 'round, we'd say it's a smart move to get the line rolling early. Source: engadget and boygeniusreport Just to correct smokepsp32, actually it will be sale on 00.01am 17july NZ time so tht means 8pm 10/7 msia time. An australian website already put the price tag for the upcoming iphone 3G model.
http://www.linelink.com.au/category20_1.htm I still think that vodafone and optus will offer a better price (i mean outright, prepaid plan). Just wait and see though. EDITED: Well, u still roughly guess the price would be in malaysia by multiplying it by a factor of 3. This post has been edited by mangoman: Jun 25 2008, 08:51 PM |

Well, vodafone already announced in their website that iphone 3G will only be sold in contract, they just dun do prepaid or sell it outright. Btw according to France's law, no mobile is allowed to locked to a certain network so definitely u can get it unlocked legally.

QUOTE(zidane88 @ Jun 30 2008, 09:39 PM) The Next G iPhone 3G plans start at AU$30 per month with an upfront cost of AU$279 for the 8GB model and AU$399 for the 16GB model, although the 8GB model is free on AU$80 plans and the 16GB model is free on AU$100 plans. All plans require a 24-month contract.Telstra only offers post paid plan, I am waiting for Vodafone and Optus to announce their pricing as they offer prepaid and postpaid plan. Most of the customers would like to have prepaid so let's hope Voda and Optus will offer a better pricing. |

QUOTE(psyeo @ Jul 9 2008, 05:41 PM) yup, they are surely acting as a monopoly here....what an excuse "it is more expensive to bring the data to NZ" WTF? lol Well, get it from aus then. In fact, u should miss Aussie Telco. I am currently on 49 dollar cap, only pay 49 dollar a month and i get 350 dollar of credit and 300 free minutes. Too bad I'm in NZ, will probably get my iphone 3g from other country.... I actually miss Malaysia Telco. WOW Vodafone sux big time, will switch to another service provider, if I have a choice =.= |

A special thanks to commenter "tamade" for pointing out the obvious. Since AT&T's unlocked iPhone 3Gs will cost you $599 (8GB) or $699 (16GB), you are better off signing a contract and canceling it than buying an unlocked iPhone. In fact, it's even cheaper to buy a 16GB iPhone using this method than to buy and unlock an 8GB version. But math isn't our strong suit so go ahead and double-check our calculations. We won't be offended:
$299 - 16GB iPhone w/contract $36 - Activation $175 - Early Termination Fee $70 - One month of service Total Price Using The Shady Method: $580 So... 8GB iPhone Canceled: $480 16GB iPhone Canceled: $580 8GB iPhone Unlocked from AT&T: $599 16GB iPhone Unlocked from AT&T: $699 http://gizmodo.com/5021186/dont-buy-an-unl...-a-new-contract |
