Does a phone plan matter in this case? You are getting outright no-contract phone, so the point is moot. The most relevant issue here is what is total amount to pay that people like me and most of others here in this forum, who have ZERO intention whatsoever in getting onto a plan, and only interested to get the iPhone only.

Who gives a *bleep* how much Vodafone or *insert company* charge you on a plan, I just want the iPhone to use back home. You yourself only cared about getting out of Optus's own plan by adding that AUD80 into the final figure on the first page, and I quote:-
So what's all the sudden big deal about "price of plan in NZ is so much more expensive than Aus"? rolleyes.gif

DO the math and for getting the iPhone OUT of a plan, with no contract, like i posted before, it is much cheaper to get it from Vodafone NZ than Optus AU, NZD1129 VERSUS AUD929. Not all big numbers translate to "being more expensive", with the Malaysian Ringgit being much more competitive against NZD than AUD.

Next time, please bring more relevancy to the table rather than simply adding "price of plan in NZ is so much more expensive than Aus". Most if not all of us here are not interested on getting shacked by a contract plan OR using the iPhone at the place of purchase on that contracted telco, we're only interested on getting the iPhone as cheap as possible OUTSIDE a contract.

You r so wrong mate. I added 80 dollar becoz tht is the unlocking fees if u want to unlock the iphone prepaid. Now get it? rclxub.gif Btw malaysian ringgit being more competitive against NZD than AUD bcoz AUD appreciates so much recently. And FYI as well, 1 day before vodafone launched the iphone plan, it is stated clearly that IT IS NOT AVAILABLE OUTRIGHT FROM PREPAID. U have to read a few pages before, I made a post on that, a screenshot taken from vodafone website. And also, if u view the video that i posted before about a guy interviewing the spokeperson from voda nz regarding their outrageous plan, u should beware that voda nz plan that time is so much more expensive and they dun offer outright. Now only after so many ppl make a noise about it, they start to let ppl buy it outright and also bcoz they have too many stocks in hand as nobody is interested to buy from voda nz that what they expected. After all, it is not wrong to say that optus aus has cheaper plan than voda nz coz it is a fact. I dunno y this fact will annoy u so much. I was talking abt plan and i dunno y u get offended by that. Are u a loyal vodafone customer who is holding their balls? doh.gif

You seem very out of touch with the general consensus here in this section of the forum.

1. We are all either from Malaysia, or outside of the country that we plan to purchase the iPhone from, so whatever telco that have the most affordable plan means JACK SHIT to us, since we are not going to use the iPhone with that said plan in that country we are getting it from, we are getting the iPhone and planning to use it OUTSIDE the country we get it from. In this case, I repeat again, WHO GIVES A RAT'S ASS whether Vodafone NZ or your precious Optus AUS or whatever telco you wanna add here, gives the cheapest rate, all we care about is which telco gives the cheapest NO-CONTRACT iPhone, be it prepaid or outright unlocked! Hell, if AT&T has a presence in NZ and offers a no-contract iPhone that is cheaper than Vodafone NZ, I jump on that opportunity right away.

2. Nobody cares about whether Optus AUS having cheaper plan than Vodafone NZ, or if Vodafone NZ has lowered its rates after its customers whining, etc. All we care about is which telco offers NO-CONTRACT iPhone for us to use back home in Malaysia, or wherever "home" is.Your main argument was about you pointing out that your Optus AUS having cheaper plan compared to Vodafone NZ, but since the only thing that we care about here is which telco gives a NO-CONTRACT iPhone the cheapest, in this sense, your Optus AUS is still more expensive than Vodafone NZ, AUD929 compared to NZD1129. Nobody here cares about who gives the cheapest plan since....guess what? Nobody wants to subscribe to the plans because EVERYBODY IS PLANNING TO GET THE IPHONE FOR USAGE IN MALAYSIA, NOT IN AUSTRALIA OR NEW ZEALAND! How much clearer do you want me to get? rolleyes.gif

Not a lot of folks here have the option like I do, since I fly to both places, and other options of getting from Europe, Hong Kong or even the US. All I'm saying here is , for a NO-CONTRACT 3G iPhone, between your Optus AUS(AUD929) and Vodafone NZ(NZD1129), the numbers speaks for themselves, Vodafone NZ is cheaper. I dont give a damn about Vodafone NZ or Optus AUS, they can rot in hell for all I care, all that matters to me is I get the 3G iPhone without contract THE CHEAPEST! Get it!?

Let me lay this down clearer to you. I am from Malaysia, and I spend most of my time in Malaysia and the US. I DONT GIVE TWO SHITS ABOUT VODAFONE NZ OR YOUR PRECIOUS OPTUS AUS! The only thing I care is about using the 3G iPhone back in KL and Newport, without the need of subscribing to a plan.

It's a matter lost in translation.

This befuddled mango-planter wants to cram the "Optus plans cheaper than Vodafone's" mantra down my throat, when I dont give a rat's ass about it. All I care is in the end, it turns out like this:-

Mango-planter spends AUD929 for his unlocked 16GB 3G iPhone.

I spend NZD1129 for mine.

From Xe.com currency converter,

AUD929 = RM2906.54, NZD1129 = RM2783.01

You can argue to kingdom come about how cheaper Optus plan is compared to Vodafone, but all I care about are those figures there.

And I'm not even staying in New Zealand or Australia, or anywhere else that Vodafone has a presence for that matter, to be a fanboy of them. Celcom here wei, mangkuk! doh.gif

As before, need to sync with iTunes 7.7 before u activate the phone.

Attached Image
Old vs new - back

Attached Image
Black or white? Your pick. The glossy black back smudges easily and shows up fingerprints and smudges glaringly. Consider this if u want to pick up the black version. The white is less obvious, but the best is still the old silver back.

Attached Image
Old vs new - top. Note the chrome finishing. Now can use any headphones without those 3rd party adapters. Good move Apple.

Attached Image
Old vs new - bottom. Speakers are now clearer and louder. Can use the old power cables with the new iPhones. The adapter is the same fit. New cables do away with the push buttons on the side of the adapters and is slimmer, but not good for those with big fingers.

Attached Image
Old vs new - side. Again, note the chrome buttons and the curved back on the new iPhone.

Attached Image
Self explanatory. Took me some minutes to find this initially. It was on the back cover of the Guide book.

Attached Image
Testing with Maxis sim.

Attached Image
Maxis sim roaming on CSL HK. Voice calls and sms works.

Also, as I posted earlier, the HK units are not operator-locked. So it works with any of the other HK operators e.g. Smartone-Vodafone, CSL, Peoples, New World, PCCW.

What others? Ask around, do others here in Malaysia care about Australian call rates or contracts/plans? We live in Malaysia, you stay in Australia. Of course it is important to you to care about which telco gives better call plans or rates. All we care is which option is the cheapest for us to get it with no contract, and can it be used back in KL. It is not important for us to know about Australian telcos, it is VERY IMPORTANT for us to know if the phones we buy outside of the country will work in Malaysia.

Now do YOU GET IT? Let it go, you know you're fighting a lost cause, dont make yourself look any more foolish that you already are.

This is a useful reference from Apple that shows which are locked to operators and which are not.

That blogsite is just repeating what's Malaysian Insider's saying, picking up the news and spreading it. The trouble is, the news has no credibility whatsoever, and Malaysians love to pick on news that favours them.

It's nice to be hopeful, but make sure the hope is banked on credible sources.

The Maxis sim works on units originating from HK. At least for voice calls and sms. I cannot confirm anything else and whether it would work if I bring that back to Malaysia since I haven't been back to MY.

It may not work on units from other countries if the operators there decided to lock it. As I understand it, and the Apple article I pointed to earlier confirms this, Optus would unlock it for u for a fee (AUD$80?). The other operators Telstra and Vodafone locked theirs without an option to unlock.

Yup, I'm working for Vodafone in Westfield Downtown, but we have no iPhones left. According to my BDM, Apple only allocate 3000 iPhones for the launch (thanks Apple! mad.gif) and we sold all of ours (40 units) this morning. They were all gone by 12 noon.

buying it outright should be no problem, although some stores were advised by those greedy bastards up in head office to not sell them outright. kalau cakap awal2 tadi, i couldve saved that white 16gb for u.
*
Bro, I'm losing more and more hope of getting one. Today's Saturday, and the store closes at 1500. Sunday's close, and Monday opens at 0900, but my contact needs to get ready for work by 0950. Do you think the line will be long, because my contact definitely still see a line for the iPhone.

The line may be long probably because of the need to line activation while you complete your purchaseinside the store, right? How about for those who wants to get the phone outright, without a line at all? They should be allowed to make their purchase without having to line up with those wanting a contract subscription as well.

I've already resented to the fact that I will not see my precious until next month. Checked Orange France and T-Mobile Germany, and both seems to not have no-contract iPhones available until later in the future. Damn all this wrong timing to hell! mad.gif
