The Next G iPhone 3G plans start at AU$30 per month with an upfront cost of AU$279 for the 8GB model and AU$399 for the 16GB model, although the 8GB model is free on AU$80 plans and the 16GB model is free on AU$100 plans. All plans require a 24-month contract.

Telstra only offers post paid plan, I am waiting for Vodafone and Optus to announce their pricing as they offer prepaid and postpaid plan. Most of the customers would like to have prepaid so let's hope Voda and Optus will offer a better pricing. wink.gif

If you total up the contract, prepaid fees and everything, you need to pay about hkd9200 for your 8gb iphone 3g, so you might be better staying with your 1st gen iphone which is less than half the price.

3G iPhone is overated & overhype. Those big companies are really smart in taking advantage of the situation & market to sell it to idiots who either thinks:

i) 3G is for video calling

ii) its 3G!!!

iii) its $199

Lol, I bet the next time its gonna be iPhone 3G iPhone HSPDA & people will go all crazy about it again.

You can't blame others who like the phone, don't like iPhone just look at other choices that Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung or ten more mobile phone brands have to offer.

Lol dude, I think you misunderstood me, I myself am an iPhone user but the fact that seeing how those retards acting all over the world (infact just take a look at the forum under the garage sale) as if the iPhone was only launched the 1st time is really pathetic. I mean c'mon, an added 3G chip + GPS function isn't worth the hype at all.

My mistake then, sorry pal. All I see in Garage Sales on iPhone 3G sales threads are just a bunch of rich fellas with no-brainer and thinks highly on owning the iPhone is just the name and the company brand. They think that it's iPhone, it's so great and bla bla so they have to own it.

I think most of them doesn't even know about the truth behind the $199 price tag and also the new rules on unlocking phones by telcos. This time it ain't the same like it would on the first generation iPhone. Sometimes money really can't buy anything you would want to.

AT&T to sell iPhone without contract

NEW YORK (AP) — AT&T Inc. will sell the new version of the iPhone without a service contract for $400 more than the price with a two-year plan, a break from the rules set when Apple Inc.'s popular touch-screen gadget debuted last year.

Two new models of iPhones go on sale July 11 for $199 and $299, depending on the amount of memory, with two-year AT&T contracts. The no-contract versions will cost $599 and $699 and will be sold sometime "in the future," AT&T said.

Buyers would then go month-to-month on AT&T's service. AT&T said the no-contract phones would be "locked" to work only on AT&T's network, as the contract-laden phones will be.

The new iPhones will have faster data access and more accurate navigation capabilities. The cheaper model will have 8 gigabytes for internal memory, half that of the more expensive model.

The first version of the iPhone was sold in the U.S. without a contract, but AT&T would activate it only with a two-year contract. Many phones ended up being "unlocked" from AT&T's network and shipped overseas.

Also Tuesday, AT&T revealed that the iPhones will go on sale at 8 a.m. local time on July 11. Last year's iPhone launch, which happened in the evening, had Apple devotees camping outside stores in anticipation.

Lots of good info here. Mainly the pricing for no contract iPhones are $599 & $699 (coming soon). For early upgrades the price is $399 & $499. If you currently have an iPhone or are upgrade eligible you will pay $199 & $299. Also, current AT&T customers are also charged a $18 upgrade fee.

US$599 and US$699 are within the acceptable price range. Hopefully I could get that price in UK too (which shud be around 300GBP and 350GBP) tongue.gif

$199 sure need to sign up with service bond, most likely 2 years bond.
Singtel also going to offer iPhone
