Cannot compare like that. Because you are not earning Rm80 everyday.
But your FD does earn you 70 cents everyday consistently. That's the major difference

I can come out with some correct but ridiculous math. Rm80 profit for a day on Rm7058 capital is a return rate of 414% pa.   

Don't mean to flame, just the way of comparison is not that right.

The problem is not sikit sikit jadi bukit but the problem is consistently earn everytimes. It is impossible to gain everytime for short term trading.
You need around 2:1 (gain:loss, more than 60% chance) at least to have a net gain because of commission involved. We can try out virtual trading in this forum as way, see how the net effect is. Just simply post the real price done for buy and sell in real time for short term trading.

Long term investing, yes, with some fundamental play, it is highly one will register a net gain, but short term trading, I highly doubt there would be many success story. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean won't be success but I mean fail > success in signficantly ratio.

Generally people only tell half of the story (success story, just like people tell how MLM business succesful is), but those failed story (tons) being swept under the carpet.

May be your father's friend already been rich or having other passive income source already as the main income. Nobody or very few want to tell their own private and confidential details, even most of us won't tell how much our salary is to our friends when being asked, right? Mostly just simply answer.

By relying purely on short term stock trading to earn a living? I highly doubt especially for the market like KLSE. NYSE or CME may be have better chance or opportunites to do so.

There are only a handful of professional traders that able to be succesful, but there are plenty of failed story also. We are talking of traders (aka short term trading) not those buy and hold for long term for investing.
