There is some improvement on signal reception on FW2.0 from 1.1.4 (for me). The earlier "Call Failed" symptoms using Maxis and Digi (Celcom is ok), does not occur anymore when you upgrade to FW2.0. The overall speed is slightly lagging but still acceptable. Advice not to upgrade if you love your current applications and games running on 1.1.4, be patience and wait for more FW2.0 applications. smile.gif

No the icon is different from Apple's 3G icon.

I took the files out from iPhone3G.

Unzip the attached file, 2 files

FSO_UMTS_ON.png
Default_UMTS_on.png

Renama to

FSO_EDGE_ON.png
Default_EDGE_ON.png

WinSCP to your iphone, and go to /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app
make a backup of the 2 files, then overwrite.

Then when iphone detect "Edge" network, the logo will the 3G logo, same as the one on iPhone3G.

Sting,
2.0.2 supposed to fix this bug (weak 3G reception), but somehow it is a mix results, some said improve, and some not. So just have to wait for the next firmware update within the next 2 weeks. Switch off the 3G for the moment.

Fuiyo,
Start looking for a 2nd hand iPhone2G or just upgrade to iPhone3G. Replacement or fixing the LCD screen is just too expensive and I dont think it is worth the hassle. Even after repairing the LCD screen, the phone might give you other problems since it has a really bad fall.

Milky,
You can actually buy outright from the 3 Telcos in Oz, but from what I know, currently there have stop selling, but forcing you to go for min 1 yr plan. But there is always an option to get from outside retailer, e.g. JB HIFI in Melbourne, they are selling it outright. AU729 and AU849 for 8GB and 16GB respectively, and unlock fee is between AU70 to AU150 depends which Telco the shop is affiliated to.

One time charge, and your phone is official unlock.
