just a repeat in case, the previous thread gets deleted.
yikes!!! tak pasal pasal i got roped into this and also exposing my typo crystal clear (be a little bit more sympathetic especially from the very senior members. stuff like that are NOT meant to be joked or flamed); left out the NOT anyway despite having a small and tiny disagreement at around 2-ish in the morning (which i reckon is totally cool by the way) with stringfellow, i'm with him on this one (whilst making myself susceptible to attacks from the moderators too unfortunately). well that's the risk which i'm willing to take. I dont mind posting differing opinions, but deleting a post that differs from your opinion, just because you dont agree with it, is an act of cowardice. The addition of his exposure to his deeds in belittling Terapox further shows what kind of character he is.
"With great power, comes great responsibility" If you are abusing them, the people here have the right to question your right to hold that power. Last I check, we are still in a democratic society. |

QUOTE(ianho @ Aug 22 2008, 04:31 PM) Harlo, there's no reason to be nasty to every question you dont see fit to answer. You do not own this forum ya. If you dont like certain questions, you DO NOT have to answer, simple as that. I've noticed this behaviour from you quite a few times already and many ppl have PMed me about it. Not eveybody knows everything and a forum is for sharing. Some people like me play with almost all forms of electronics and there r still many things we have not learnt or have not realised because we are too bz playing with so many things. Please tell me you know absolutely everything about everything b4 you come out with answers such as "keep up with the program" and such. What is LYN for if every fella like you just says "pls go Wiki", "pls go google". I'll just repeat this again, if there are questions that happen to hurt your eyes or intellect, or whatever reason, DO NOT ANSWER it. Ever heard of the right called "u have the right to remain silent"? You certainly have the right to remain silent but not the right to abuse people you deem to be "noobs". I would definitely have to agree with this, especially the parts in bold. Below are two of my previous posts from another thread, the message is the same. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « There's no need to be nasty to newbies. You may not realize it stringfellow but a considerable amount of your posts have become very immature in nature & filled with personal attacks. I didn't expect that these kinds of posts would come from you, coz you're very knowledgeable and a lot of your posts are actually very very contributive. Knowing a lot is very good, but it does not give you the right to be nasty to the new ones. Don't go saying I'm new here I don't know how it feels like (which has repeatedly been your excuse to be rude). I know what it's like. Repeated threads suck. I just ignore them. Please lah. The people at Genius Bars know a whole lot more than you, I'm sure they face newbies all the time and get bombarded with repeated questions day in day out. Do they have the right to be rude? NO. MODERATORS, in my opinion you guys should react more promptly when repeated threads pop up. You'll have to be firm with the newbies as well. Point them to the relevant threads, then delete the repeated ones. The merge function is also there. If you guys leave it as it is the so called 'professionals' would just flame, flame, and keep on flaming. Everyone here: moderators, 'professionals', newbies, should check out the rules and regulations at MacTalk Australia. Allow me to quote several parts that I think would be applicable here in LYN: QUOTE(lailaikatong @ Aug 19 2008, 09:42 AM) The MacTalk Forum Golden Rules I'm not saying that I'm perfect. I wouldn't be surprised if someone here would dig through my past posts and find some faults, quote that post, and say 'practice what you preach'. In fact I'm expecting it already, based on how things have been going in here. Happy hunting.Keep these pearls of wisdom in mind when compiling your insightful, informative and educational post on the MacTalk forums: Rule 1: Treat others with the same respect and dignity that you would expect back. Rule 2: Extend your respect to the whole community by making quality posts and threads after carefully searching the forums, keeping the community's standards high and the feeling positive and helpful. Rule 3: Take your MacTalk experience in a positive light, even when people are negative and unhelpful. Now read on to get some more specifics on what you should do and what you shouldn't do on the forums. PLEASE DO this stuff on the forums - Do read all the posts in a thread before replying. Everyone hates it when you ask a question that's already been answered. - Do search the forums before you post about something unless you're certain it hasn't been posted before. If a thread already exists about something you want to talk about - add to it instead of starting your own. - Do check your facts before you post. We are pretty tolerant of being incorrect as we all make mistakes, but it's better to be correct in the first place and not look stupid. - Do report posts you see that you think break the rules, are duplicates or just something you think we should know about. It's MUCH better to report the post than to publicly alert everyone to it. Click this button on the post in question: a forum leader will get this message and act upon it. Easy! PLEASE DON'T DO this stuff on the forums - Don't be abusive, rude, inflammatory or personally attack people, no matter how stupid or wrong they seem to you. It's the Internet man, calm down. - Don't make pointless "me too" or "lol" posts. Unless you're contributing to the discussion, just enjoy reading it. Post whoring to get your count up to get access to the trading forum or some sense of importance via your post count is not tolerated either. Grow up or go to eBay. - Don't talk about software piracy. Don't ask for serial numbers. Don't ask for cracks or links to download software. That's illegal silly. - Last of all - do what we say. If a moderator or admin asks you to stop posting all those pics of giant phalluses, or flaming the new guy cause he thought the iPhone would send MMS, well, damn you, we mean it! We're tolerable and human and doing a job. We don't do things just to spite you (well, only sometimes if we REALLY hate you). If you have any issues with how you've been treated on MacTalk, feel free to contact us via email or PM and we can explain to you in detail, or even change our minds if you convince us we were wrong. Don't go posting on the forum whinging - we hate that too. May Apple Byte and its iPhone sub-section be a better place. -lailaikatong- |

QUOTE Repeated threads suck. I just ignore them. Please lah. The people at Genius Bars know a whole lot more than you, I'm sure they face newbies all the time and get bombarded with repeated questions day in day out. Do they have the right to be rude? NO. I've been trying not to tussle words with you because of our past liasons, but there are certain things you need to know.I'm sorry but we are not PAID like those Apple Geniuses. We are doing this for free, and frankly, it has come to a level where it is testing most of our sanity. Choose not to answer them? More will come and post the exact same questions, only with different wording. If im paid to answer these questions and more, you can spit questions in my face and I'll still put on a smile. The reality is with the iPhone section, is that they expect answers to their questions as if WE are paid to do this. Choosing to ignore it only invite more of these questions. You may be able to ignore and let it be, perhaps because I dont see you in the iPhone section and that may be your mode of ignoring these NOOBS and their incessant questionings. But those of us who are making the iPhone section of this forum as our second home, these bombardment of questions are like eyesores. If you leave them unanswered, someone else who have no clue whatsoever about the issue with have their go at it and point the clueless NOOBS the wrong way ,and complicating things further. In the end, the same NOOB will come in with more whinings and more problems with their iPhones, suffocating the forum further. Ignore them more, you say? Until at which stage would you come and answer the hapless buggers before they brick their iPhones to kingdom come? You will have to, at one stage answer these NOOBS, and as much as WE like to ignore these NOOBS and let them have at it, WE hate it further to see them squander their iPhones to a point of no return. So, before you point your finger at me, have a look at the forum, and stay and have a feel at how things go in this forum. You have a higher tolerance towards ignoring them, but I dont. I dont like people spreading misinformation, I dont like people going about things like a headless chicken, and I dont certainly dont like people who are irresponsible with their purchases. These NOOBS certainly fits that category. The Apple Byte section are more organized and well-informed because you dont have to deal with these clueless NOOBS. Even if you do, the FREQUENCY of these questions coming at you on Apple Byte, are not as frequent as what WE have to handle here in the iPhone section. It is like there is 10 iPhone NOOBS born every minute, and we have to handle their bibs, napkins and diapers when they burp, spit, vomit and defecate their way around the iPhone section. Again, your tolerance level to ignoring those people are not the same as others. Do not think that you can say "I can do it, why cant you", God made us different, and made us with that different tolerance level as well. Some of us can just let things slide, "Lantak ko ko lah, ko nak jahanamkan iPhone ko , doesnt botter me" attitude comes naturally to them, while others cannot even stnd people making a mistake when it comes to delicate things like unlocking their iPhones, because little things like this may result in a devastated iPhone. We are NOT PAID like the Apple Geniuses to treat these NOOBS with gleaming white teeth smile, we are only human. And as fellow humans, these NOOBS should understand why the impatience level in the iPhone section is high, and at the very least, as a common courtesy to their fellow man here, go about their way finding out the answers here first before posting questions that had been answered. |

@lailaikatong
You've made a good point there BUT there's a few flaw in it. 1. The guys n gals at Genius bars do know more than us. Its THEIR JOB to know those stuff. They are PAID to face all those newbies with their silly questions. This is not the Genius bars and we are not paid to answer those silly questions. U can find the answers in the FAQ, Tips n Tricks, Read this first and many more. 2. Now the trends that get to our nerves (especially String) is dat those newbies are a hit-n-run type. They come, they ask (some stupid n silly Q) and they run away with no courtesy to close or reply back to the thread. This will make the forum so messy with repeated n open forum (targets for flames n spam). A forum is a place for knowledge sharing ... not knowledge leeching. Suddently there's an influx of new users in iphone forum asking the same question again n again. I think those sellers in LYP or other place knew about this forum and just ask their buyer to come here for the support so they can 'cuci tangan' when their customer got problem. 3. If they don't even read the "READ ME FIRST" stickied by mods, what makes you think they will read the rules n regulations. Like yourself, i'm also not perfect but there's a level of tolerance that each one of us have. Strings is an outspoken person, he'll speak what he think is wrong and sometimes emotions do get to the best of us. We just need to forgive n forget. If the mods here could be more pro-active in weeding out the newbies that did not read or follow the rules then this situation can be avoided. I understand what string feels, this forum is getting messy with question that should not be posted again n again. This forum is like a home to some of us and seeing it being flooded with those kind of question will surely get to our nerves. A lot of effort are put to stop this but its just being ignored by ignorant newbies. Again lailaikatong ... this is not an attack towards u or the mods. This is just my personal views n opinion. |

Very well said, stringfellow. Just so you know, I feel the same about almost everything you've said.
Really agree with these parts: -I dont like people spreading misinformation, I dont like people going about things like a headless chicken, and I dont certainly dont like people who are irresponsible with their purchases. -these bombardment of questions are like eyesores. (definitely eyesores. I don't understand why those who have the merge/lock buttons don't use them) It's true that we don't get paid, I expected this response when providing that genius bar example but I couldn't think of anything better that's Apple-related..lol.. You're not tussling words with me, you're just stating how you feel and I respect your ability to do that to me without being offensive. You do have the capability to state how you feel without being offensive or personal, so there's no reason to be offensive to others. Flame posts are eyesores as well. Just hit the report button and *hope* that the powers up there do something. I have several stages of being subtle before I blow. If my subtlety isn't working, what i meant to say in that paragraph dedicated to the mods is that YOU MODERATORS HERE AREN'T DOING YOUR JOB TO KEEP THINGS IN CHECK. With great power comes great responsibility so be responsible to do what needs to be done lah. I've quoted the MacTalk rules & regulations coz the netiquette culture there is top-notch. I do hope that everyone here could learn from that. |

It is easy to ignore, but it takes a bigger person to enlighten.
But you cant ask a student to study even if you force him or her to read the books. The willlingness to learn will have to come from within. |

i second stringfellow, frozzbyte and davidgary73s' statements.
i have made it very clear with myself from the beginning on how i should be helping (or at least attempt to) new users. of course having said that, since i'm not paid to tolerate nonsense, i shouldn't hesitate to express my own displeasures. |

QUOTE Just hit the report button and *hope* that the powers up there do something. Where does that get me? I did the exact same thing, and I had to do the cleanup myself after battling deletion of my thread and posts for almost 30 minutes!? I would be much happier to let the Powers-That-Be here handle things if they show a shred of attention and responsibility towards actually moderating this place. When the MOD himself acted upon his own judgment as how he see fit, ad suppressing the evidence of his wrongdoings, what are the common folks like us to do? Play meek and lick his foot? Added on August 22, 2008, 8:22 pmThese are the type of questions we have to face, day in day out, in iPhone section of this forum. Tell me when your patience run out when you're face with these and other similarly berating questions every ...single....day, in iPhone forum. @frozzbyte.
What you said is definitely true. I don't take what you said as an attack at all. I understand how all of you feel, I hate repeated threads as well. I actually really really understand why there's a lot of flaming going on, I just believe that the flaming is unnecessary. I'm voicing out against flaming because you guys are way smarter than that, don't be like them. You might ask why I'm not voicing out against the hit-and-run newbies. It's because I don't think they deserve the attention, they don't deserve to have the iPhone. They just buy it because they can. I don't bother to help undeserving people, so why should I bother voicing out against them. Ignorance is bliss, no need to get stressed out with these kinda people coz they don't deserve your stress. @davidgary73 I've always been an observer in this forum, and would actually love to contribute more to this sub-section. I share the same passion and love for the device as you guys do. The main reason I don't post here is because of what I've stated above. Ignorance is bliss To all the iPhone sifus in here, keep up with the quality posts. Keep the flaming down. |

See, you are talking from YOUR OWN point of view, you chose to ignore than to contribute.
All of us here chose to contribute, in whatever form we can, instead of ignoring. While you have the benefit of ignorance to not get stressed up with these incessant NOOBS, we chose to contribute and possibly get our blood pressure up for helping people. Why are you pointing at me being the guilty party here again? I chose to endanger myself entering the fray of this "warzone" while you stay comfy in your "Iggy zone". And I'm the bad guy here? |

disclaimer: this isn't a personal attack or an attempt to make it personal as i'm genuinely intrigued.
@ lailaikatong, after reading your numerous posts regarding this topic (frankly speaking, i don't like digging out old entries as well), i don't deny that i have a desire to meet you personally and perhaps get to know you better. since that you have such a complete and concise perception on how life is suppose to be (and of course no one is perfect, so no point bringing that issue up again), i would like to see how it is like in actual life instead of reading it off a monitor (no sarcasm here, rest assured) hence, if my transfer to melbourne goes as planned, it will indefinitely increase my chance of experimenting this "Ignorance is bliss " and how can one possess such an infinite patience and also living life to the fullest from you. thank you for reading my post. Human cannot live without caring to what's happening around them. Where you draw your line before you starts caring is what's make us different.
Like I said before, maybe I cared too much, and should just adopt the "Who the hell cares" attitude more often. |
