Hi there, i often watch bands in pub using minus one, however, i tried googling and all i find is midi, which doesnt sounds as good quality as a normal wav or cd format songs.

Is there any way to DIY a minus one? or the only method is through a studio?
I believe this would be useful for working or gigging musicians... so hope someone can shed some light and help..

there're a few way to get it.

1. official minus one, which you can get from official CDs.
2. karaoke VCDs. if they're official one, you'll get official minus one tracks. however, quite a lot of the minus are newly done, especially old songs (cause getting the rights for official track is very expensive as it's for business purpose), which is not quite the same as official one. quality might vary.
3. DIY, record or use midi, or hire people to do it. $$$, of course.

now, there's no such thing as taking out the vocal using softwares. at least technology today still cannot do it yet. maybe one day if somebody success isolate the vocal and remove it, hoho, the software developer will become pig head (means earn a lot of $$$) in no time.

I think this plugin works for winamp
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio.htm
(the Vocal Remover)

I tried it before long time ago and it works for some songs
But its only for playback, as far as I know, unless they updated it (I'm not using winamp anymore tongue.gif )

Usually vocal parts are recorded in both sides (L and R speaker?) in stereo songs. This plugin will only mute the wave sound which occur in both L and R tracks, since vocal are usually recorded in both tracks. Since they way each song is recorded differs, some song might work great but some song might not work at all.

Hmm, wat i m thinking is, the way to remove instrumentation...
Most of us performing might have something lacking and wish to use minus one to back it up
or maybe we lack a band and wish to perform solo in cafes or pub..

So is there a way?
I read that using a midi with a good output card like yamaha or so might help too

yeah, i think there's quite a lot of guitar backing tracks already done by fellows from the net. hmm.gif

if you really cannot find, learn how to use MIDI in conjunction with DAWs and load up some high quality virtual instruments to change the crappy MIDI sound with better one. and learn a little mixing, you'll get a decent backing tracks.

DAW means digital audio workstation. cubase, cakewalk sonar are among the most popular. there's also ableton live and adobe auditions got mentioned quite a lot around here too.

hi guys, maybe its too late for me to say this, but neways...

i kno how to make minus 1 track..

1. go get the guitar pro
2. go find your song in guitar pro format (got plenty in ultimate guitar) OR if u got a good midi song, u can just open it with guitar pro
3. open the song with guitar pro, then export the song using midi..u can mute any instrument before exporting, drum, guitar, bass, anything
4. download midi to mp3 converter software or just google it for online converter (this process is to convert the midi sound to real instrument sound)
5. enjoy
