GUys,

I want to ask, which LCD/Plasma brand and series do you recommend for the BEST ASTRO viewing.

Because my family only watch ASTRO. thanks
*
mo yok ho kao! the best astro viewing is a 29 CRT TV. Go get the samsung slimfit 100hz progressive scan CRT TV.

Hi all, I need advice from the experts here.

1. Thinking of getting the 42" panny py plasma tv. Originally thought I'd plunge for the pv80 (as many have recommended here in this forum), but seeing how the price is steadily dropping I thought why not 'up sikit'. Is it worth it?

2. Is the built-in sound system in the panny py good enuf without needing a home theatre sound system? Just in case I need to budget for it...

3. I'm thinking of having the tv up on a wall to save space. What's the cost of having it done?

Thanks everyone for your help! Will use the tv mainly for astro sports and dvd movies.

Keep the faith.
*
Jesus - if you are to get a RM4K plasma TV, slap another ><RM500 to get a proper sound system - any PC speaker with a sub should sound 100x better than the tv built in speaker!

Wall mounting - bargain with the sales person and get it done for free! most of panasonics plasma tv comes with the wall bracket!

the price of electronic item will always fall! if you buy at the end of this year, by april 2009. the price will drop further. It will not stop dropping!

Hi... been doing research for panny pv80 50" plasma for my living hall.. wow this plasma is really nice... but dam the shop wanna "Potong" me.. he say the price is RM7999 omfg.. he say he come with 5 years warrantly... crazy la... he say best price is 7999 + dvd player -.-

hmm got a question.. how panny pv80 compare to py800 ?
*
50" plasma at 720p/1080i is around that price. Even LG and Samsung 50" plasma are around that price - anyhow you should be able to get it for slightly over RM7K. Samsung and LG 50" are selling below RM7K now.

I found samsung LA46A650 rm7800 cash price ... Ok? Going to pay deposit by tomorrow

Bracket rm220 + installation rm180

Any comment??
*
is that a LCD? why on earth would you pay nearly RM8K for a 46" LCD ? Get a 50" 1080i Panasonic plasma for god sake!

full HD vs HD plasma tv.

how can u compare them bro?  biggrin.gif

different category lah

Added on July 17, 2008, 11:57 pm
well,

if i were you, i would rather invest my money into panny 42PY800 or 50PY800.

for the purchase of 42PY800, i still have RM1k extra money for investing another gadget.

and i only add on another RM1k to get 50" bigger tv screen to enjoy even better motion movie.

actually u focus on the "FULL HD LCD sticker" or the picture quality?

paying RM7800 for a 46" LCD TV and to watch poor astro signal (i believe 60% of your watching program), i dont think is a worth of money. u will cry if u notice how poor the astro result is on the screen.

if people are to say that astro will improve the signal, and so LCD tv will be better. by that time, plasma tv can even display out higher and better picture result since now plasma tv is better than LCD tv on astro channel.
*
i am sorry but i dont get the logic !

please dont buy too much into the FULL HD crap!

42PY800 is around RM8K similar price to the 50PV80. I suggest you get the 50" plasma. Firstly, we are going digital in what year? 2010? By the time there is HD transmission in Malaysia, the HDTV probably kaput already. Or if you are okay only getting your HD source from amazon, so be it. But then the 50"PV model should do remarkably fine on BD.

there is just no comparison for LCD vs Plasma! The reason the LCD is still around and not totally pushed out of the market is because they are cheaper! With plasma now getting cheaper, LCD's time is near!

furthermore

ANYONE from the industry can tell you that 1080p is not what separate PV800 with PY800. As Sunauto, HTkaki and any other people who sale HDTV, they will say its the step gradation (blackness) and the contrast ratio that are separating the model. Industry experts said said ratio and gradation come before resolution in plasma!

The reason that PY800 picture looks better is because PY800's contrast ratio is 2x that of PV800 and the gradation is more than 1K more.

PV800 = 15,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 4,096
PY800 = 30,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 5,120

I would jump on a PV800 with 30,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 5,120 but not FULL HD anytime!

I am totally agree with bloodysick. Plasma is the way to go for 40 inches above  thumbup.gif
LCD would only b good if we have digital HD TV reception in Malaysia.
*
LCD is good because its cheap. that is the only advantage! Plasma can do HDTV programming with no problem!

Panny plasma tv with free wall bracket  blink.gif  I think this is not a correct information given. Panasonic plasma tv does not come with free wall bracket unless it is a universal wall bracket given by the shops (normally the wall bracket price is added into the price).

The price of electronic will not necessary except plasma tv and LCD TV. Dont be surprise to see some other electrical appliances price shooting up from 15.08.08 onwards (confirmed)  sweat.gif

While plasma tv and lcd tv price will plummet, there will still be a bottom price for it.

LG plasma can be bought at less than RM5.5K (check my siggy).

LA46A650 is a full HD LCD TV. If have proper source, it will chew Panny 50PV80H for its PQ. IMHO (no hard feeling), a 720p panel could not possibly outperform 1080p panel.
*
yalah - but then CEs usually come out with lower cost newer model before that. Cheaper easier to sell lah but then cheap if from supplier side will benefit shops lah.

soli. if i am not mistaken it is senq but then their prices are ah hem ah hem lah - maybe everything included already.

720p panels does 1080i too you know. On none fast motion sequences, there should not be that much differences.

will take 50' PV800 vs L4A and 42PY anytime wink.gif

Added on July 18, 2008, 2:28 pmoh btw - i dun believe in retail out setting that intentional set higher profit margin hdtvs to better looking setting than lower profit margin hdtvs.

If you are into HD (BD or mkv), then get a decent HT HD pj. Those cheap multimedia pjs  just doesnt make the cut (sorry, no offense to those who owns it) when comes to displaying HD video.

i am going to rub salt to the wound! multimedia pj = power point presentation and 15-30min p0rn clips! rclxm9.gif

Joseph,

Can pm me the address of yr shop? I think want to drop by next weekend to finalize my purchase. Btw can i bring my laptop to test the pc input for pv80 and py800? any huge difference in picture quality?
*
i have put it before pv vs py - PY 2x the native contrast of PV. 15K vs 30K. PY is also more than 25% "blacker" than PV

You mean to ask if the Pana is certified by THX?  Although the PY is suppose to be abt similar to the PZ (THX certified), I dun think the PY have the license.

These photos are for those who want to "judge" PQ of 42PV80 on ASTRO. FYI, I'm using Philips s-video cable to connect ASTRO and Panny plasma. Picture taken with Nikon D80, lense 50mm at ~ f/2.0, shutter speed 1/30-1/60, no post processing except image resizing  cool2.gif !
*
the pictures look bit "fat and short". can we retain the 4:3 ratio of the Assthrow signal albeit with two black bars on each side of the wide screen display ?

You can set 4:3 aspect ratio (at your Panny TV) for ASS-TRO, but the picture will look small and there will be two black bar on left-right side. Nothing can be done about this until ASS-TRO provide 16:9 aspect ratio for their broadcasting.
*
lol i know we have been okay with the two black bars north and south of the 4:3 display while watching DVD. Now have to re-adjust seeing the two bars on the right and left instead laugh.gif

anyhow - my tv episodes are all 16:9 tongue.gif from BTV tongue.gif laugh.gif

More photos...for LOTR, it is a "ahemm-ahemm" DVD, plugged to 42PV80 using component cable (no upconversion/upscaling at all). Enjoy it guys.... rclxms.gif
*
and on the Lord of the rings photo in the post, why is there still two black bars on the north and south of the display? Even if the video is set to super wide mode and not 16:9, the black bars cannot be that deep! Abahwafi, care to explain? The video should sit perfectly on the Panny display with no bar what so ever smile.gif
