From my point of view, it should be the Panasonic TH-42PY800H (SRP:RM7999). Pioneer does not have any HD Plasma here in Malaysia at the moment.
My own question:

Does anyone have experience playing SD DVDs on a Plasma using either the PS3 or any Blue-Ray player? Need to know whether the upscaling built into these players are any good and are able to make watching normal DVDs bearable.

CUrrently thinking of buying the Panasonic Plasma TH-42PY800H and a PS3 (as a blue ray player) and a Denon 2930 DVD player to play normal dvds. Just afraid there might not be that much difference in picture quality between the PS3 and the Denon when playing SD DVDs.

one of the thing tempted me about the panasonic full hd is the 480hz+high contrast, since it has double up the contrast of the pv80, creating my curiosity to plug my ps3 on it and test on this weekend, wondering how 3D will it be especially watch ham tai .... lol

i got display 42PV80 and 46A550 side-by-side at shop. well, A550 immediately turn me off when i play Planet Earth BD.
the picture noise is so obvious. i doubt sony Full HD has the similar weakness.

between 42PY800 and 42PV80, you barely notice the difference.unless you play PS3 winning eleven then only u see something nice. 

in summit best perhaps - and i ll snap the photo make comparison later if i m free......

btw, i tok x n w series sony only belongs to full hd series...

no matter how special price you get, sony product is always more expensive than other brands.

42PY800 is around RM8K similar price to the 50PV80. I suggest you get the 50" plasma. Firstly, we are going digital in what year? 2010? By the time there is HD transmission in Malaysia, the HDTV probably kaput already. Or if you are okay only getting your HD source from amazon, so be it. But then the 50"PV model should do remarkably fine on BD.

there is just no comparison for LCD vs Plasma! The reason the LCD is still around and not totally pushed out of the market is because they are cheaper! With plasma now getting cheaper, LCD's time is near!

ANYONE from the industry can tell you that 1080p is not what separate PV800 with PY800. As Sunauto, HTkaki and any other people who sale HDTV, they will say its the step gradation (blackness) and the contrast ratio that are separating the model. Industry experts said said ratio and gradation come before resolution in plasma!

The reason that PY800 picture looks better is because PY800's contrast ratio is 2x that of PV800 and the gradation is more than 1K more.

PV800 = 15,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 4,096
PY800 = 30,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 5,120

I would jump on a PV800 with 30,000 native contrast, shades of gradation = 5,120 but not FULL HD anytime!

LCD is good because its cheap. that is the only advantage! Plasma can do HDTV programming with no problem!

apparently, the 'war' of 46A550 vs 42PV80 really brings so much of arguments.

it seems that PV80 has lower grade panel than A550 which is full HD panel.

and i have these 2 models on display side-by-side, direct comparison.

many customers expect that A550 surely is a winner (before i switch on PV80 and A650) due to the marketing sticker as it looks so cool. (both TVs at original setting, no cheating)

however, the moment i play the full HD format video clip, the customers start to notice the kecacatan of A550 in term of the colour. movement, and brightness compared to PV80.

after showing the astro channel and video clips to customers, 10 out of 10 customers go for PV80 or PY800 series.

and those who desire to get a full HD tv (donno LCD or Plasma decision), after they see how PV80 performs better than A550, even though PY800 is not placed next to A550, they have no hesitate to confirm PY800 model.

this is the customer case in my shop.

Finally got my Panny LX800MK LCD...phew man it was a long wait as there was stock shortages everywhere.

Haven't really tested it kau kau yet but so far tested the picture quality using Sony's HDMI DVD player. The PQ is nice and i have no regrets getting/waiting for this model hehe

Anyway do u guys know how to find out the display hour of the LCD? i haven't really read the manual yet so forgive me if its something that is inside the manual
