Unless there are many people in the house, then the side viewing is a factor. Else, I dont see any logic why would a person would like to watch a movie from the side and not directly in front.
I guess most of here do not have to watch movie from side

Well, I strongly agree with htkaki on this. If you have many family members, what you can do is to buy a bigger LCD tv. So far, I have not encountered any problems using a LCD for my HD needs.
ermm...lets say you have one set of sofa (1+2+3).im sure most people will allocate the 3-seater sofa direct to the tv and the 1-seater and 2-seater sofa will be on the both sides.
viewing angle is not a problem when guests/friends are not around.
somehow, if there is a party, it could an issue already.
imagine that a 40" LCD tv without an IPS panel, only 40% of the guests can enjoy clear view from the center and the remaining 60% (those who sit or stand at both sides) will enjoy whitish scene.
for those who see the whitish scene from the side, if friends, im pretty sure they will joke at your tv by saying that "your lousy tv is not clear from the side".
IPS panel on the LCD tv is something similar to the power steerling of an vehicle.
yes, most people will drive straight most of the time. when they need to make a U-turn or 3-point turn, is it easy with the power steerling?

From my point of view, it should be the Panasonic TH-42PY800H (SRP:RM7999). Pioneer does not have any HD Plasma here in Malaysia at the moment.
My own question:
Does anyone have experience playing SD DVDs on a Plasma using either the PS3 or any Blue-Ray player? Need to know whether the upscaling built into these players are any good and are able to make watching normal DVDs bearable.
CUrrently thinking of buying the Panasonic Plasma TH-42PY800H and a PS3 (as a blue ray player) and a Denon 2930 DVD player to play normal dvds. Just afraid there might not be that much difference in picture quality between the PS3 and the Denon when playing SD DVDs.

there is a difference when u play a SD DVD on a normal DVD player and an up-conversion DVD player.
the latter player can deliver smoother images.
however, i dare not put SD DVD into my PS3, i takut rosak the device.
panasonic DVD-S54 will do.
