Ours here is the 32pc5r, a EDTV (480p) model. The new one (32PG6000) is HD-ready (768p) and looks great (like the new PG60 models).

Ermmm... the disc is a RM14  "ahem" Jack Sparrow" Blueray disc....  whistling.gif  Don't know how true it is as blueray coz some said is just recorded from DVD 9, I just bought one to try it out on the PS3.  sweat.gif

I have not connect it direct to the Astro decoder, at the moment just via the antenna connection as second tv but the picture quality not too bad... I am sure if connect direct with S-Video cable will be much better.... no chance to try yet because my nephew has been on it playing PS3 most of the time  blush.gif
*
Our *ahem* "blu-ray" disks are actual transfers from Blu-Rays... into DL DVDs. So basically you can play "Made in Malaysia" Blu-Rays on even Cap Ayam brand DVD players. Malaysia Boleh! icon_rolleyes.gif

BTW, what happened to SteadyPana and his "supposed" LX800? Think he was among the earliest to book, right? brows.gif

shud be just normal D9 repackage as bluray to earn more
*
Well, they seem to come out as the original Blu-Rays are hitting the market, so I assume they are just downsampling the ori BRs into DVD9. Wouldn't be difficult with the sophistication of our "Jack Sparrows" nowadays. blink.gif

Are the speakers good with that side bass reflex thing? Let's say, as compared to a Sony or a Panasonic LCD?

B/W response time is more important. G/G is generally faster. The problem is no manufacturer use the same tests, and all stats are conjured up from whatever "test" that can give them the fastest marketing time. Of course 4ms is better then 8ms, but exactly what method they use to get that result is normally not revealed. Also certain colors hold longer than others... so grey to grey may be 4ms, but, say, black to white may be as high as 18ms, leading to bluriness during your typical Saturday Night EPL matches.

Best is use your own eyes at the shop. Ask them to cough up the remotes too so you can play around with the settings. I've seen a couple of people burn DVDs of a typical ASTRO EPL match and other sports to playback at the shop to test how good the LCDs are at displaying ASTRO and sports. Think it's a pretty good idea, especially when big outlets like Harvey and Best purposely don't have ASTRO feeds for you to compare with. Any cheapo LCD will look good with a HD feed. tongue.gif

"Acceptable range" is actually dependent on your own eyes. Some people still find 120hz 4ms screens blurry, but some people (like my mom) are happy watching an old 18ms Philips LCD without noticing anything "blur". Everyone has their own tolerance level.

I think plasma power consumption should not be a factor. It's only slightly higher than a LCD, and far less than your hot water heater, fridge, air-cond, valve-driven amp, etc. Heck, it probably sucks less power than your old 34" CRT. I haven't seen my electricity bill increase since I bought my PV80, despite tripling my viewing hours (new toy mah).

Also, it's a lot less hot than my old CRT, so heat is not an issue. Even after a few hours, the screen is just warm so all these "excessive heat" issues are an exaggeration.

Whether you buy an LCD or Plasma should be down to your own eyes, not all these "urban legends" that these uninformed salespeople like to BS people with.

Don't buy a set just because it has 100hz. Some people (like me) cannot stand the shimmering and fake motion that goes with it, and prefer the regular 50hz sets.

You should spend a lot of time going to a lot of shops comparing TVs on various types of feed and see what pleases you the most. And read up reviews and comments on the net about those sets so you know if there are any problems connected with that particular model, like inability to do 1:1 pixel mapping, for example. This is the kind of info most salesman won't know (or worse, they will say new TV sure can do everything mah).

This is Malaysia, and the consumer has next to no rights. Don't impulse buy because you will not be able to exchange it later unlike in the western countries. Do your research, be patient, compare prices, TVs and service.

====================

choontoy:
Since you already have a good LCD TV (yeah, I think that model is pretty darn good actually), you should get a good Plasma and have the best of both worlds. Watch EPL and movies on your plasma and game on your LCD. smile.gif

What about heat issue on Plasma ? My current room does not install air-cond.Will heat issue affected at Plasma without air-cond ?
*
My Plasma is in my living room, normally air-cond not on but TV on for up 12 hours a day (kids watch cartoon, wife watch movies). And when we're walking around also we're lazy to switch off so just leave it on. The plasma is abused like a regular TV and after 4 months... no heat issues (less hot than my old CRT), no screen burn issues.

I have astro max and sometimes my kids leave the static menu screen on for up to 30 mins while they run off and play, and the image-retention goes off within 15-30 seconds when I switch to another channel.

My mom bought another PV80, and I didn't even bother to break-in hers for her, since the screen looked so durable. After 3 weeks of WLT on Eco Mode (Picture: 80), there is no retention or burn. You do not have to baby your Panny Plasma. smile.gif

Can someone advise me???
Ok... I've been reading a little here and there... I'm still confuse... My TV broke down and I need to buy a new TV.
My family usage behavior:
1. watches Astro 90% of the time.
2. TV on approx 12 hours a day
3. Distance from sofa is approx 10 feet. Looking for a 50" TV?

At first I decided to buy a Panny Plasma TV. Then I was advised that Plasma is hotter, use more electricity and has "reflection" due to glossy screen

Can someone help recommend which LCD TV is better for my usage?
What is the best LCD TV I can buy for under RM10,000?
*
4 years ago Plasma tech is not the same as today's tech. Despite what salespeople say, Plasma tech has progressed together with LCD tech. Plasma screens are much more durable, more burn resistant and cooler than the old screens. 4 years is plenty old in today's tech world. LCD TVs from 4 years ago were total cr@p too.

At 10 feet, your ASTRO will look awful with ANY 50" LCD TV, irregardless of how much money you spend. If you're hardcore on LCD, I'll advice 40-42" max at that distance but even that is pushing it. Best is go with Plasma. If you got 10k, get a Pioneer Kuro. It'll blow you away, especially if you're watching Blu-Ray or upconverted DVDs over HDMI.

Unless you got windows situated directly behind where you're sitting, reflection shouldn't be a problem. It's less reflective than your old CRT.

I have the panny plasma and to me plasma screen is much more resistant to burn-in now and the reflection is also much less than before. However, my tnb bill shows about RM30 increase since I got the TV. I'm not sure about LCDs though. Someone needs to do a comparison.

When did you get your TV? Don't forget our blardy govt increase electricity price a couple months ago.

ya...but what im asking is about the C.A.T.S

--> Will the C.A.T.S be worth it to buy the PV80H instead of the lower price PV8H?
(Contrast Automatic Tracking system)

adrian dude. PM best price for the PV80H plus the bracket and installation.. thanks

It has been really useful for me. My PV80 is in the living (next to 10 feet of windows with sheers). So having the set automatically adjusting brightness from full daylight conditions to fully dark night conditions is useful). My kids and wife are not good at adjusting the set's brightness, so having it do it automatically saves me a lot of nagging. smile.gif

It's worked so well for me that I won't buy another TV without CATS technology.

There's been some discussion on this... but just how bad is the Samsung problem with dead pixels? Is it really just a few unlucky sets amidst the tons of happy users, or really piles of junk panels? Any experience sharing?

thanks for the info.. that is great help!
watching astro on the PV80 quality is superb, good or so-so only?
*
Pretty good actually, as good as Astro can look on a big screen TV. The color is awesome. smile.gif

The picture is good enough that I can sit 3 feet away and it still looks good. Using decent S-Video and stereo cables help of course. I'm using Monster THX, but the combined S-Video/Stereo studio cables (the more expensive Ace-branded ones) from Ace Hardware comes quite close at a fraction of the price. But don't use all those cheapo cap ayam ones, not when you've made such a substantial investment on your TV. You'd want it to look as good as possible.

I've read that the Sammy 3-series have been stripped of processing but blessed with an ultra-fast response time meant to target gamers. Anyone can comment on the 3-series' game performance? Plus it's dirt-cheap to boot. smile.gif

I bet he's just trolling for a flame war since ops are ongoing in kopitiam. That statement is just meant to provoke a reaction not a discussion.

i think the PV80 cannot accept 1080p, the best it can do is 1080i. PG20R can accept 1080p.
but since both plasma... maybe it does not make much difference at all.

i had the same dilemma. in the end, i bought the PG20R.
*
The PV80 accepts 1080p feeds just fine. In fact, things look best when fed at that resolution, better than at 720p. It also does a pretty good job upscaling 480i feeds. smile.gif

To All Expert,

I am planning to buy Panny 42pv8h which is around 3.8k but I am still concerning
1080p for BluRay. Right now I am not afford for the Panny FullHD model but I saw plenty of
Full HD LCD panel selling at above 4k. Now really confuse if want to utilise 1080p for bluray disc
should I go for LCD Full HD or Plasma HD (42pv8h) ready? Need advice tq

Panny Plasma Full HD really nice but around 7-8k.  sweat.gif
I watch mostly astro, DVD .
*
It really depends on your viewing distance. To fully appreciate blu-ray on a 42" you need to be sitting below 6 feet. At 9ft+ you might as well save money and get a HD-ready cause you won't see the difference in detail.
