Hi there,

This post is to make a rememberance of the LaserDisc, which is the first optical disc ever invented. Since it's end production on 2001, many of people doesn't realised this format ever existed, even Vinnyls records are more recognized. LaserDisc invention have led towards more and better products especially Compact Disc (CD) and Digital Versatile Disc (DVD). Most of the inventor of DVD was also involved previously on the pioneering the LaserDisc.

Soon I will post my pictures of my LaserDisc players and with the pictures of it.

Cheers.... biggrin.gif

This is the best part of this player. You could change the Region code with some 'cheat code' with the remote control. I got the code from Internet.. laugh.gif
See at below picture at the top right, the Region code is 3.

Yup, still remember laserdisc, at that time it was the granddaddy of HD, it was the best digital format b4 DVD came out..
It has DTS support n etc... I still remember watching The Rock on laserdisc.. It was the last time i watch laserdisc smile.gif
The disc itself were huge, like a vinyl size disc..
Those were the days...

Yes, You're right. It does have DTS support, but need special player and DTS processor at that time. For Pioneer model you have to go for DVL919 to able playback on DTS track.

Oh my god, those huge disc. I remember my father watching those when I was a kid wandering around the house. Too bad the player and the discs are no longer in sight, probably being thrown away already.

Yup...too bad the laserdisc lifespan in malaysia is too short. But somehow you could try to get a good bargain at Cash Converter, or if you willing to travel go search it at Singapore. I did it before from eBay.com.sg list.. blush.gif

karyeowl, Laserdisc was not dropped because of non-recordable medium, but due to it's lifespan that was already over 20 years. And further the evolution of optical disc at time that has created a smaller video playback medium called DVD has made Laserdisc looks 'ancient' product. But for me even with so called 'Laser Rot', but any physical scratch could be easily playable rather than DVD. Maybe because of the simple encoding system implies to LaserDisc.

b48753,

So jealous. It's hard to find LD player in silver color, some more your player can play DVD and VCD. Mine was boring black and can only play CD and LD.

It was about RM 2500. A few years later, the remote broke. Then in 1999, the player had small problems. Finally in 2001, the player totally mampus.
Send it for repair, they refused to give it back. RM 2500 just gone like that. My parents are the type of people who malas nak cari gaduh even if they're 100% right and people trying to rape their children.

Finally, I've got a secondhand player for RM 250. No remote. Can only play and stop. Cannot pause, choose chapters or even karaoke. Really sucks. The picture quality is like watching NTV 7 on a rabbit antenna.

Most of our LDs was bought around RM 80 being the cheapest and RM 300 being the most expensive. Most are around RM 190 though. Once, we bought a special edition double discs. Cannot remember the movie. It was RM 440 but we bargain until the last price is RM 240.

Are you sure there's no cetak rompak LDs? I've heard there's Hong Kong pirated LDs. Ironically, it's the same price or even higher because of rare titles. Furthermore, my father (not very proud of him because of this) has this LD pornos. Can pornos be original and legal in Malaysia? I don't think so. That's my history with LDs,

We have around 35 titles and my father has about 50 porn ones.
*
Don't be so jealous... I've lost 2 players with all worth RM 4500 brand new, and this one was brought second-hand from eBay SG. I had to travel along from KL to collect it, then went to Pioneer Malaysia twice to repair the IR lens and motor. Hopefully no broken boards in future as Pioneer says no more board parts on stock. Maybe you could give a try at eBay SG. thumbup.gif but still hoping if I could have the DVL 919 sad.gif
