The iPhone is set to be cut to £169(RM1048) as part of a limited offer, O2 confirmed today.
The £100 reduction, which will apply to the 8GB device on all O2 iPhone tariffs, will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) and will run until 1 June.

It follows T-Mobile's decision to reduce the price of the handset from £315 to £78 in Germany.

With price cuts and iPhone stock reportedly running low and not being replenished in the US, France and UK, speculation is mounting about the release date of the 3G version of the device.

The price reduction follows O2's decision to increase the minutes and texts included in its £35 a month tariffs to 600 minutes and 500 texts in, up from 200 minutes and 200 texts.

An O2 spokesman said: 'The special offer will make the iPhone an unbeatable proposition in the market, helping O2 to further gain market share.'
The 16GB iPhone will not be included in the offer, and will remain £329.

you only get the price if you sign up for 18 months contract. otherwise, it will be the normal price.

I know it will be a bit expensive but since I already had one Iphone with no 3G then its better to wait for a new one with 3G eventhough its a bit expensive. Normally I would wait for a while before buying just to make sure the price is stable (low stable tongue.gif ) and the jailbreaking method is free of bug

i think this is the old iphone(oldest)
any difference compared to the newer or upcoming iphones ?

p/s: u could jailbreak/ unlock iphone and u can use it with any network or anywhere , even in malaysia.

Just got TWO, cost me about Rm1k for each. Ordered yesterday morning from carphonewarehouse.com when the news broke. You have to have a local UK credit/debit card in order to buy as you can't use cash. Received the phones today, unlocked using ZiPhone and it was easy peasy ...now using my iphone with my other SIM card!

The handset is the same as the rest. Not refurbished or anything. Of course they will tell you u have to sign up for the 18 month contract (GBP35 per month) but if you don't activate it you won't be bound to any contract. U just ZiPhone it and it's an unlocked phone!

Probably getting a third one tomorrow coz fren asking me to buy, but local O2 store no more stock liao... sad.gif

RM1k? That's madness, better ask my UK friends to help me bring some back. Thank God for carrier subsidies and Steve Jobs for his brilliant idea of activating contracts using iTunes. It would be impossible to get away without signing a contract if you have to do it on the spot in a store.

i think you are totally wrong there. Once you take the phone .. you are considered bound the the contract... yea .. you can argue that you didnt activate the line but can you argue that you didnt take up the iphone deal ?
Telco industry is one of the biggest industry around the world, do you think will have such a simple loophole?

just don't be suprise when they charge you 18 months worth of contract on your last month ...

Things are a bit different with the iPhone for the simple reason that you activate your contract through iTunes. Other phone contracts in the UK are done on the spot, so they'll have your billing details, your signature agreeing to the terms and conditions etc. For the iPhone, you walk into an Apple store, pay and leave. You're not bound to anything until you activate it.

It's the same thing with the iPhone in the US so yes, there is such a simple loophole, how else do you think the sellers in Malaysia are able to stock up on iPhones?

Chongster, I've checked the O2 and carphone package will not bind you to the contract and you could just walk away with the phone. You go into the store, pay by credit card and thats it. no signing of whatsoever documents to sign up the package etc etc.

My fren bought the phone and he didnt use O2 network and he called and checked, they said its OK to do so...guess there are loopholes here and there.

Hey dude, just want to confirm with you. I can walk into an 02 or CPW store and just buy one with a uk based credit card, right? And the phones are like the US ones? ie can unlock using ziphone/iliberty etc? Wanted to get one for my sis, just wanna be sure.

Can I get it for 169 from the apple store as well?

Hey,

Yes, for my 3rd purchase, I used my Malaysian credit card to buy from CPW...I was actually asked to sign a paper that to agree that in order to be able to use the phone i must activate via itunes. The paper was given back to me rclxub.gif icon_idea.gif rclxm9.gif hmm.gif sweat.gif rolleyes.gif I recommend that you go to O2 stores, they don't ask anything, no signature, just buy and GO.

Yes, I unlocked all the phones using ziphone, my frens are using the phones now, they perform as you would a phone to perform. Connected to WIFI, tested out everything...smooth sailing...

Not sure if you can get from Apple store...shud be OK.

You mean, a problem with the UK iPhone or a problem with ziphone? i have the older versions of ziphone so it's alright if it's a problem with the new version of ziphone..
