I'm wary of those silver colored "call & end" buttons. I could think the color may wear off in due time. If it really does..that's bad!.

I now a new inductee of K850i hall of fame!..my previous 810i is now owned by someone else within my family.
I was really torn between W960i and 850, but in the end, the K850i fits my bill and the W is priced just a bit too much and I think I prefer the K series features better. This post has been edited by bsl555: Apr 17 2008, 02:19 AM |

I updated my firmware to latest through SEUS. There was some trouble doing it on my Athlon XP pc..somehow the USB flash drivers didn't initialize and ended up failed or error. Nevermind that..took a bath, relax a while, I used my HP Compaq laptop which also stores all my ringtones, themes and anything else phone related.. Kick up the SEUS program and everything went smoothly according to instructions. All kau tim in 15 mins I think. I think there's some speed difference in Media Player when it reads your media library catalog. Before, it somehow took a while longer. Imagine you store HUGE number of media files in bigger memory card, am sure it'll take longer to read, WHICH owners complain of lag...OF COURSE LAG lah..more files to read!
I really like the MegaBass feature, although audiophiles may say its "un-natural or bloated", its can sound richer and less fatigue. I really missed this on the K810i. This post has been edited by bsl555: Apr 17 2008, 01:06 PM |

OK...for those who want to know whether can use 4GB microSDHC card (Sandisk) or not in this phone.. CAN!.. and I found out its formatted in FAT32, whereas M2 card is formatted in FAT. The memory status reports correctly.
I've now transfered all my music and stuff (1.xxGB) to this new card and its now working well!..touch wood!. RM69 at AllIT DIgital Mall..no one sells cheaper there than AllIT..I checked around. That plastic film is the same brand I use in my other K810i. excellent! [attachmentid=446209] This post has been edited by bsl555: Apr 17 2008, 06:12 PM |

QUOTE(Ver @ Apr 17 2008, 06:43 PM) Is there really no way for us AP set users to update our firmware for free ( confirm ) ? Mine is a AP set, I just updated to latest firmware last nite through SEUS for free..all went well mah!..(except for few quirks related to my PC..not the phone). As long as you have original firmware installed previously and can be recognized as legitimate by SEUS, it'll detect the actual version and apply the appropriate upgrade firmware...simple as that!.Oh ya guys, what's the BROD that i hear from other forums bout k850i de? Saying that it'll make your phone dead >< |

QUOTE(dragna @ Apr 18 2008, 02:31 PM) I also faced problems like you with the sync but i found out that it's the vid's that i converted were at fault and i tried other source on the same vid which then worked fine. I'm guessing there's nothing wrong with the video. I'm guessing too that the Media Player or something to do with the hardware is not up to mark. The same converted video plays without a problem on K810i. If you were to encode any video in basic or lower quality, you'd sure see a basic or poor quality video on screen, and its so obvious on the K850.Anyway, I've been reading SE forums and this video/audio sync has been addressed in much earlier firmware, but its now clear to me its not entirely eliminated and the latest firmware revision does NOT address this issue. Something is not right here. BUT, if you encode say some youtube flv file in basic or much lower resolution or audio quality, then NO PROBLEM. My final encoded files are near highest encoding possible and as I said, doesn't pose a problem in K810i, but its very persistent in K850i. I'm beginning to become disillusioned to this model for a number of issues after playing with it for a while, despite a huge price difference over the K810i. Actually someone very knowledgeble and a frequent phone kaki, did warn me this is NOT entirely a great model, yet ????? Meanwhile, I'm also finding the buttons and ring a bit harder to press than K810 or K800. Its even harder than my Logitech mouse button. Here again, a minor irritation to me. SE should have had it much softer. Oh well..sorry for negative rants today..I had expected SO MUCH!.. who knows my next few posts could be..in GARAGE SALE!.. I'm also finding this phone not very suited to simple arcade gaming. A joystick is mandatory. You normally use your two thumbs for left & right,(e.g. 4 & 6 key) so which finger you press the fire button (5 key)?.
I gather in other forums this model is "most complained about" by critical owners Here's my list of complaints and possible bugs. These are entirely from my own observation, NOT copied from other discussion. 1. No joystick and not suited to the simplest of arcade games. Perhaps priorty to cellphone functionality than entertainment. 2. M2 card used in other SE phone can be unrecognized and asked to format. Cannot be the card..it works flawlessly in the K810i and card reader. Format with card reader and then put back in phone, again it'll be unrecognized. 3. No time & date stamp in camera settings. 4. Camera flash can accidently covered by fingers, resulting in dark pictures. Best to hold the phone with only finger and thumb on both sides whilst taking picture, ALWAYS AWARE that finger MUST be away from the flash light in front. 5. Keybad buttons and D-pad Ring seem clicky and harder to press, even harder than Logitech mouse. A joystick is more suitable. The Navigation ring is a STUPID implementation. A Joystick would have been God sent. 6. Keyboard seems to sit on a hollow layer, can see it being depressed when numerical keys are pressed. 7. USB cable to SEUS update for this phone can be problematic. The USB Flash drivers may not be automatically detected and installed, file transfer mode is invoked instead and SEUS will not proceed. Not as straightforward as lower model SE phones. Some detection flaw here. (have not tried in Vista yet, but in XP, the problem is apparent) 8. The File Manager utility is moved into Organizer category. It should be on the main menu. The PlayNow should NOT be on the main menu. 9. Still no extended keypad lock options, such as time. 10. Keypad lock should not be one of the sensor buttons, should be a hardware button. 11. Video files have evidence of lip-synch problems during playback. QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Apr 19 2008, 10:48 PM) Damn,i'll miss playing games on phone. I'm no gamer nor a fan of any games, but I know a joystick is best for responsive maneuvering with only the thumb. The somewhat hard to press and clicky D-ring is a blatant disadvantage even in the simplest of arcade games as I've found out. I need 3 hands to go through Round 1. How to play?...excellent question! Now i only realise that this phone's button is not suitable for games. Anyway, I'm going to pass it off to my son in due course..I'm getting very dissillusioned with this model!, but what else to change ah?..The truth is there's no other phone with similar features at the same price point. I should have listened to a phone freako friend!..he already told me twice..DON'T bother buying this phone! This post has been edited by bsl555: Apr 19 2008, 11:14 PM |

QUOTE(teikwing @ Apr 19 2008, 11:15 PM) Eh?.. so many K series current and past are with joysticks..K800 and k810 are still current aren't they?..and its actually quite good I'd say. 3 members of my family are now SE phone owners, which include those two mentioned. Anyway, as long as its bug free, user friendly and can last up to 3 years trouble free, I'm quite happy. Compared to my previous Nok 6600, THAT WAS PAIN in A*s by comparison. |

There exist a list of phones from launch to cease production dates. Until those models mentioned have officially ceased production on the proposed dates, they're technically still current models.
Point is, I wish this K850i had a joystick. Life would be more bearable. |

QUOTE(niwooe @ Apr 20 2008, 12:00 AM) No mods, no user defined settings. Only those offered in the settings menu. No user defined ISO settings if you're asking. It can be 20mpixels and yet it'll still be compromised in comparison to a real digicam. |

QUOTE(zacktan @ Apr 21 2008, 04:41 PM) went to sg wang 3rd floor for firmware upgrade, now on da newest one no problem yet Must be the same AP service center that upgraded my previous Nokia 6600 for free (within warranty) and it took an hour. That was then. The SE phone takes 15mins max...should have charged lower..RM20 reasonable?.personal recommend from me, fast and friendly service |

QUOTE(teikwing @ Apr 22 2008, 06:16 AM) yes. it fits the phone perfectly. try to ask the shop people to fox it for you in case you're not so confident in fitting it yourself, it does not affect the quality of the camera. there's this protector for the camera's lens cover too. Yes, best to get the shop fella to fix it for you. If not you need steady hands, very sharp eyesight and CLEAN THE PHONE of grease, dirt and dust BEFORE you stick on the protective layer. I had to use my head magnifying glass, a camera dust blower and clean with Amway LOC solution before I stick it on very carefully for a perfect job. Not easy but must be done carefully to get things done 1st TIME RIGHT!. |

QUOTE(Redundant @ Apr 22 2008, 09:33 AM) oh, u bought from the shops in low yat? how much is it? I don't know Renee's product quality, but I'm convinced of one quality type I bought from Digital Mall PJ for RM20 that's really crystal clear, branded as Special Edition and in 4 pieces for the K850i. I had used another similar one for my other K810i and its superb.was thinking of buying from Renee at RM6 + RM3 postage but i'm hate sticking it myself as i always get dusts trapped inside >< thanks btw =) |

Had a comparison of mine, its branded as Crystal View, doesn't look the same as Renee's picture. |
