Yeah the red 'E55 AMG' is a fake. Notice the absence of "V8 Kompressor" badges on its side.

Not to mention that that's a low spec E-Class - no Distronic sensor plate on its front grille, plus non-Panoramic roof. Most AMG models have all the option list boxes ticked.

And the rims are of later AMG models.

Personally I'm not against Mercedes cars with AMG kits. Mercedes themselves offer them as an option (just made available here for the E280).

It's the fake badgery that annoys me. Most petrolheads will know if it's not a genuine AMG model, it just makes you look like a tool for trying to fool others into thinking it's something it's obviously not.

Same goes for M3/M5 badges on regular BMWs too. Worse still, I've seen a 7-Series with an M7 badge. LOL

Yup, now that's a real E55 AMG. US spec - Left hand drive, amber signal lamps on the corners of the front bumper.

This model is pretty old though, it has been replaced by the E63 AMG in mid-2006.

Actually the AMG 63 models have 6.2l V8 engines rather than the indicated 6.3l. The 63 on the badge is used as an homage to popular AMG models of yore.

Even the E55 before it had a 5.4l supercharged V8.

Well AMG has always been known to make big V8 engines. It's what they do best, so why stop eh?

Obviously they don't take into account our ridiculous displacement-based roadtax structure.

The CO2 emissions and fuel consumption of the C63's bigger and more powerful 6.2l V8 is very much comparable to the M3's 4.0l V8, now that's what matters.
