I never liked this 'pick your best team' type posts. Most people would only select players from the 'big four'. Personally I think David James deserves a big mention. He has been in superb form this season. Another player I think deserves a mention especially after moving from Tottenham is Jermain Defoe. Unless I'm mistaken, he has scored 8 goals in 7 games since signing for Pompey.

That is a really bold statement. I just have to ask, do you watch any other of the leagues as well as the Premiership? I mean to claim that someone is the 'best in the world' is really going out on a stretch. To each his own, I'm just wondering what the basis of your argument is. I can understand the hype about Ronaldo but this is a little more contentious to put it mildly.

Precisely and couple that with the fact that most of us only watch Premiership games. Even if we do catch a glimpse of the other leagues, it is more often than not when they are showing highlights. It's really subjective, mainly due to the fact the Premiership gets so much coverage and Man Utd have done wonders marketing themselves to the East. Suffice to say, if Man Utd win the Champions League, the first eleven would probably all be the best in the world in the eyes of many. It's funny really. When Liverpool won it and Carra played magnificently, he still wasn't rated amongst the best Premiership defenders. Does anyone actually watch him play or is it a sin to watch your rivals play? I'd admit that Man Utd are probably he best team around at the moment but how many players have we seen leave the club, only to appear average?

Well to each his own. I for one can't rate what I've not seen. The talk here is about what other posters or friends have said about other players. Again, it's all here-say. Sorry, but your 'friend' isn't a reliable source to me.

Players like fans don't behave all that differently. If you are a fan of your club and watch all your games, you'll probably be getting a better perspective than the players on the pitch given your view from the camera. Do you reckon the said players watch all the other games, with their hectic training schedules and all that traveling they do?

Like I said, it's my opinion. I'm not seeking the approval of others.

Well technically he is still there. Leaving at the end of the season so I guess that qualifies him for team of the season. My mistake.

I agree with you to an extent. The current Man Utd team may beat any Premiership All-Star team we select. I myself have always been an advocate of building successful teams rather than buying the most expensive players in the world. However as this is a 'dream team' thread, I think you have to throw the criteria of players being able to function as a unit out of the window. It's like selecting a fantasy team. It's based on individual performances in the end.

He can play in both positions though he is most useful in the middle.
