Cool Thanks =)
I just relieze i got scam from a competition...
I'll desribe how the match is going...
(Opponent 1 life left)
- I got an enchanment "Underworld Dream" effect Deal 1 dmg to opponent for each card he draw.
Opponent Uses Cruel Ultimatum - effect "Target opponent sacrifices a creature, discards three cards, then loses 5 life. You return a creature card from your graveyard to your hand, draw three cards, "then" gain 5 life. "
Do you see where I'm going here?
Do you see the "then" word?
If my English is as good as i think it is, that mean he should have run out of life before he could gain 5 life right?
If this is true, haha it will be so hilarious if i tell them at the centre.
Not gonna shame the player though, my mistake for not reading it carefully. and not gonna reveal him =P
Oh P.S - can someone shed some light on this? whether he should lose the match?
Nope, he doesn't loose the game. You will only check life total as state base effect, which is checked whenever a player gets priority. You don't check it in the middle of a spell resolving. So by the time the ultimatum fully resolve, he would have 3 life left.
Errr, something is wrong with my explanation up there. Below is a more accurate way on how this work out:
Your opponent casts Cruel Ultimatum. Cruel Ultimatum resolves, while it is resolving, you will have to sac 1 creature, discards 3 cards, and lose 5 life, then he will get to return 1 creature from his graveyard to his hand, draw 3 cards, and causes the underworld dream to trigger 3 times, and gain 5 life.
Once the spell fully resolves, your opponent will be at 6 life, and the 3 underworld dreams trigger will go on to the stack, and state base effect is checked. At this stage, your opponent have 6 life, so he won't loose the game. Once the 3 triggeres from underworld dreams resolve, your opponent will be at 3 life. There is no point during the resolution of this that your opponent went below 1 life.
On side note, even if your opponent do go down to less than 1 life during the resolution of a spell, he will not loose if he has more than 0 life after the resolution of the spell. You can refer to this as a reference:
