Who said wait 3 months? Most people RMA in Singapore take 10 days.

You use your XCM, it doesnt work, and it'll void the warranty, and you cant get a new one.

I rather wait 10 days, and get a new one or refurbished one. At least i still can play after mine 3ROD.

You never change before and some ppl have posted here how long it took for them to change. We are NOT in US. Changes in Singapore can be done within a week or so. Not 3 MONTHS. You never bother looking for those topics.

If it takes 3 months, none of us here will bother to change.

Seeing this thread makes me sad.
What is the purpose of the fan mod when everything else could be discussed in the Live after death thread.
Its time the Xbox forum gets a proper cleanup.
Everything 3ROD should just refer to LIVE after Death.

y'see actually Microsoft has planned this all along. They purposely created this 3ROD issue, to make us develop our creativity to think of new ways to cool the xbox.

The purpose of this thread, as MmxZero pointed out, is to determine the best ventilation method, and to what extend would stacking a fan like the Nyko intercooler does, serves to help air flow. Its not directly 3ROD related, more on air cooling. Having better ventilation doesnot eliminates 3ROD, but it serves to prolong the period before 3ROD, on top of that, extend the life of every component within.

But anyhow, thanks for the support .

Anyway, back to the topic, I kinda did a trial by air cooling the sides, and i roughly was able to tell that it didnt really helped much. i'll try to determine why, and on top of that, need to find a more systematic method of testing results cause i've been relying on my hand .

PS : i would appreciate if the mod is kind enough to purge the past posts that veered off course. i apologize for somewhat fanning the flame.

don discuss ur project to people 1st, cause it may cause clashing of ideas..just do it and post the result and let others comment
when clashing of ideas happen u'll become unsure if u're doing correct or not..

it is better to hit a wall then ever hit at all...Yes M$ did mention that,by installing extra fan or fan mod can cause 3ROD
so what ...even no extra fan or fan mod also ROD occur.Meaning just do the fan mod,Who knows maybe u'll be hitting a jackspot and not a wall...

now running full speed at 12V + 1 extra fan with wind tunnel deicated to flow in cool air to GPU and blow it out at 12V fan

u can feel the hot air came out at the back of 360
but then...my bro machine now still hit by 3rod

To Daijobou: I have a similiar mod like yours. I've cut my Intercooler and RIGGED it to an external 12V 500ma power adapter. But the NOISE level is intolerable. So i went scounting 50mm Fans and DAMN IT's hard to find 50MM fan. Until now i can't find a 50mm fan. With this MOD i've realised yeah it does cool my xbox but not to a very satisfactory level.

I had the same idea as you. But I don't intend to buy a pelican, So i've put 2 80mm FANS (Masking Tape to hold it) at the bottom of the XBOX. I've place my xbox lying down. But somehow after i play any game the disc is still pretty hot. So i've got myself a DEAD xbox and examine the unit. I've noticed the BOTTOM part the AIRHOLES (grill) are very small comparing to the TOP thus meaning MORE air restriction.

So i've took one of the Bottom FAN and Put it on the TOP side and now I can feel my game DISC don't come out HOT. It comes out Warm . So it pretty muct is a good effort. I will take some pic give you see if your interested.

I'm currently on a little fan cooling project. But still in search of spare casings. hehehe .....

I've noticed too that the holes on the other side (top) is larger than those that of the bottom grill, which shows that MS really did botched up the desing of the xbox. Such a pity. Anyway thanks for sharing your experience. I did wanted to put a fan on the top too, but the hole is too small. Perhaps a shroud will do, but i have no time to make a proper shroud at the moment .

Some updates, after using the fan at the side, it seems that the temperature did not decrease as much as when putting the fan on the rear. This blows out my whole initial theory >.<.

edit : By the way, what type of 80mm fan you used at the bottom? I've used 70mm fans, mounted right next to the grill. The static pressure of the fan isnt strong enough to overcome the grills, which i believe is the reason to blame why that setup doesnt cool the xbox significantly better than mounting it on the rear (which has larger grill holes).
