Iwonder if there is a USB cable with one end that resembles the 12v 1.5A connector? Then laptop users can use the power from their laptops through the USB port.
*
I don't know what the actual current draw of the P1 modem is (probably lower than that), but 1.5 amps is a little too much to pull through a laptop USB port.

I wont mind switching if u get me a ~RM66 package for half the speed, I am a light user. but very sensitive on ping, of which streamyx is high in ping all the time.
*
There is a RM69 400/150 plan (or 700/300 for the same price, but with 2-year contract).

But for these you have to buy the modem for RM999 which is a killer. Also RM160 in other setup charges.

i hv type in the name and password that i ask from p1 call line, but nothing work~ doh.gif

I don't think the password is publicly known.

The standard username with Gemtek firmware is 'admin' but the password could be anything.

No. Seriously, teh only msg I received from P1 is the aforementioned >20GB usage notification. No warning at 15GB.

OH! Just nao I received an SMS notification from P1. It says,

"We are in the process of upgrading the modem software. Kindly leave your modem powered ON for the next 48 hours. Thank you."

So any changelog available?
*
The new software will add a status display screen on the front of the unit, and auto-positioning system so it will rotate itself to get the best signal.

I heard you can try Wimax for 15 days with money back guaranteed. Anyone know how much this will cost and how long will they take to return my money back should I'm not satisfied with it?
*
Answered a hundred times in this thread already.

Will normally cost you RM50 if you cancel. If you are totally within their coverage area they might give you all your money back.

P1 Wimax free modem offers will last until 1st February only. Those who wishes to sign up, should sign up now. smile.gif

Afterall, there would be new packages as well.

I don't believe it. They will not be able to compete if they do not extend the "promotion".

QUOTE(d2zone @ Jan 30 2009, 02:30 PM)
I have no problem with sharing the connection between 2-3 other PCs....but the only problem I have is that the speed is much slower compared to connecting directly to the P1 modem without the use of a router. The speed is also slow when using the wireless router with only one PC connecting to it. Does one can configure the QoS to optimize the speed?
*
I too am using WRT54GL (like Leviathan). It's about 30cm away from the P1 modem and causes no problems or slowdown.

P1 staff suggested that cheaper wifi routers have some RF leeching that may cause interference with the wimax signal, since wifi and wimax are on adjacent bands. So definitely look into separating them, as has been suggested.

WTF is your problem? Do you own a stake in P1 or what? You've been shooting down anyone who complains about P1. Look at the dates bugger. Obviously he signed up a couple of days before me. A simple explaination why I'm being charged for 31st Dec 08 - Jan 28th 09 and 28th Jan 09 - 28th Feb 09 would be fine but noooo...you had to spurt sh*t out of your mouth. If you have nothing better to say than STFU! Oh better still, appoint yourself as a MOD in this section! Duh!!!
*
p4n6 has been harsh on P1 on occasion, especially early on in this thread. Definitely no blind defender.

Just wondering, is there any non-contract plan ??
Cos i need the service for maybe 3 months only.
*
At one time they were offering no-contract service for RM10 extra per month. Maybe they still are? Easiest to phone and ask.

does the performance of p1 depends on IP it gets? which are the good IPs?
*
Does not depend on IP. That is unique to TM/Streamyx.

While WiMax worked like a charm for me for web surfing... it is only last week that I found out that P1 does not support remote access to your office network via VPN!!!! arrgh... I cant work from home.

Called the CS and they are really incompetent on technical issues. Kept telling me that P1 does not provide 'services'. (checked my office firewall and nothing is blocked. I could access VPN using StimX).

Both Cisco VPN and OpenVPN work for me with P1. I think your company may have selected a VPN product that has problems with NAT. You could blame both P1 and your company, but really I would blame your company more, because they should have anticipated that this would come up in a variety of circumstances (airports, hotels, etc.).

How many users can P1 support? Can support up to 3 people?
*
Sure, no difference to any other ISP, you can support as many people as are willing to share the bandwidth.

What's the penalty for exceeding ur download limit? Or fair usuage as they call it?

Your speed drops down to about 25% for the rest of the month, then returns to normal.

Upload were really really really really really slow

See this

You should try moving or turning your modem a little bit and repeating the speed test. It's probably just a matter of placement. If I face mine some directions I get results like yours, but if I get it in the Magic Direction then I get 400+kbps upload.

in DHCP server there is a feature called lease time. normally, DHCP server will set a time to lease 1 IP to 1 MAC address in hours. maybe you can try to off your modem for hours and turn in on again. once your mac address is out from the lease time, dhcp server will allocate new IP address to your modem. it is not a promise but most of the enterprise are using this as best practice.
*
Most DHCP servers bend over backwards to assign the same IP address to clients when the lease is renewed.

However, I don't think P1 is using DHCP to assign IP addresses to customers' modems.

would the portforwarding and new firmware helps with issue like sudden slowdown, disconnection etc?
*
Port forwarding won't help with sudden slowdowns and disconnections, but the new firmware might have other fixes that address those issues. I guess we'll wait and see. I was also approached about trying the new firmware but I don't think my modem has been updated yet. Will report on anything interesting that happens.

QUOTE(antonio @ Mar 16 2009, 01:56 PM)
The Green area is the coverage area, the Redbox is my house and the arrows showing where should I point the modem's face according to the site and where I'm pointing according to the green LED. If I would point to the direction stated in the webpage, I would have less signal (I supposed) due to the Red LED blinking more than a thousand times (I guess). If I would to turn around the face on the opposite direction (the Green arrow) I would have Yellow and sometimes Green still LED. Funny ehh?

Radio signals can bounce off buildings, which creates all sorts of complications. Maybe there is an obstruction in the direction the P1 map indicates, so you are getting a bounced signal. Or maybe there is a bounced signal interfering with the main signal in the direction indicated by the P1 map, so by turning the modem you are able to avoid some of the bounced signal at a cost of some of your signal strength.

The arrow on the map is useful in cases with clear line-of-sight, but when there are obstructions you will always have to channel your inner feng shui master to get optimal antenna placement.
