The Great How-To Convert Your Beloved AVI/MP4 files to the 5800XM Via HANDBRAKE

(Hardsubs only guys... MKV/OGM/Anything using H264+Softsubs will have to wait for later, until I try to convert them enough to be able to post instructions)

Okay, here's the Tut I promised you guys... Do take into account, I haven't tried experimenting with the encoding settings yet, so while I get a sharp, smooth Video MP4 for the 5800XM, the file will be SLIGHTLY LARGER then the SOURCE AVI file (in my case, 232MB AVI --> 256MB MP4)... hmm.gif

Where to get Handbrake? Uncle Google is your best friend... biggrin.gif

Oh, another thing... If you're running Handbrake in Vista, MAKE SURE its running WITH Administrator Rights (Run as Admin)... biggrin.gif

So now, to the Tut!

Step 1:
user posted image
1) Open your video file... Click here and select Video File.
2) Check that the path is correct.
3) Click here and select the DESTINATION DIR/FILE (what file you want it to turn into and where do you want to put it). Check the box besides it afterwards.
4) Check that you've selected the BASIC preset from the sidebar (MAYBE I'll prepare a 5800XM XVID preset later when I've finished tweaking them video files to Optimum Transcoding PerfectionTM... biggrin.gif ).
5) Click here and choose MP4 file (it might also be a good idea to DO THIS before NO 3).
6) Click beside ANIMORPHIC, choose NONE. In the "Width/Height" box above it, enter "640" into the FIRST box. Leave the 2nd box empty.

Step 2:
user posted image
7) Click on VIDEO.
8) Click on VIDEO CODEC. Select MPEG-4 (XVID).
9) Go to AVG. BITRATE and key in 1200 (over the default 1500... This is also where you'd want to experiment to get smaller files).

Step 3:
user posted image
10) Click on AUDIO & SUBTITLES
11) Check the picture. You probably would have to change the MIXDOWN to stereo, and the BITRATE to 128 (also, you can experiment here, try MONO and/or a lower BITRATE).

FINALLY:
user posted image
12) Click on START.
13) PROFIT!!!

In all actuality, converting MKV/OGM/DVDs aren't much different from the above, only with the addition of Choosing Title/Chapters (skip to the movie part, not the titles, or a specific part in the movie - it's in the Source part) for DVD; Choosing Audio Streams (again from the Audio part of the above) for MKV/OGM/DVDs; and Choosing Subtitles (see the audio part) for MKV/OGM/DVDs... biggrin.gif

So... Anybody want to belanja me Starbucks for this? brows.gif

Thanx eiraku, ure the best! thumbup.gif icon_rolleyes.gif   But i have a wee bit problem... when i try to set the source, it said that there's no valid title found... how to solve this? unsure.gif
*
What type of file is the source?

QUOTE(Hyde`fK @ Dec 27 2008, 02:35 AM)
@Eiraku

Ever try converting .MKV files? Somehow I can't get the audio and subtitles working(hardsub file). There's no audio/subtitle when playing the video. Tried Stereo for Mixdown.
*
Options you want are in the third pic... See Audio Tracks? The first drop box says "Automatic", right? Click there and choose an Audio track (in the case of my MKV, its labelled as "1 Japanese (AAC) ()" ). That SHOULD fix the no audio problem... biggrin.gif

And I'm not quite sure its a Hardsub if you can't get it to display (as Hard-encoded subs are imprinted straight onto the video stream itself (IINM), so you will ONLY get a problem with the audio, the Subs SHOULD still be there) , should be some sort of Softsub. If it IS some sort of softsub (SRT or SSA I can bet), you're in a bind. Handbrake, as of now, DOES NOT SUPPORT SRT/SSA subs decoding/encoding (YET).

If you have some sort of Softsub MKV/OGM files, try to transcode it into a XVID/DIVX Avi with a hardsub first using something else; THEN you transcode it AGAIN through Handbrake.

A bit of a problem, yes. But as of now, this is all I can come up with.

THIS linky might come in handy... hmm.gif

This is why I STILL have an entire bunch of AVI/DIVX files floating around in my computer (some of which is in my UTTERLY CORRUPTED HDD... cry.gif )... biggrin.gif

Try to run HB as admin? Where are your files located?

QUOTE(davidmak @ Dec 27 2008, 09:14 AM)
Yes, real ugly noise characteristics. Actually don't know if anyone noticed. If you own an N95 before, you'll see in the view finder that the noise is just as bad. But once you capture the photo, it will go through processing. Once that is done, the quality is so nice. Which made me believe there's a post processing stage just like any other camera.

The fact that the 5800 is so bad can be attributed that the post processing not working due to firmware issues. Well, I don't know if Nokia purposely made it such a way because it is a non-N series phone, but I really doubt. Even Nokia's old XpressMusic phones can do better.
Thanks. Will be on the lookout then.

OR toned down... Hey, non N-phone or not, this thing has the possibility of becoming ahuge seller W/O cannnablizing sales of anything above it... It's just 3.2MPs for gods sakes (in a world filled to the brim with 5MP shooters), give it the dignity of some good picture Post Proc Nokia... sweat.gif

The 5800 is not that fast. Th CPu finds it hard to cope up with the screen, plus no 3D accelerator
*
True... But look at how it's priced lar mate... It's not an N-series to begin with... biggrin.gif

And 3D acceleration ain't worth crap without the proper drivers (Cough... HTC... Cough)... brows.gif

If it can play transcoded XVID videos as fast as my 3D Accelerated (with drivers summore), 600++MHz Axim; I wouldn't say the 300++MHz proc on the 5800 SLOW in any sense of the word... Just not INFINITELY speedy, that's all... biggrin.gif

Besides, it's not fast compared to... ?

But, then again, it's still not CONFIRMED now is it... Even if it sounds about right... hmm.gif

it is the warranty that counts.

unless you are OKay with ap's warranty.

Agreed... The thing is, AP phones DO NOT cover the screen as well as Ori phones do, in terms of warranty... biggrin.gif

And it's a FULL TOUCH phone... If the screen dies... sweat.gif

If you're lucky, then, no problem lar... If not... sweat.gif

Yes, 369MHz is ok for a Symbian with a QVGA screen, but for the 5800 is a no no
*
Aha... So, how fast do we need the processor to be for it to be satisfactory in your view?

Processor speed is all important and all, but I'd rather say it's more important to see how the OS makes use of this... I concur, Symbian has never been the fastest of OS's, but as far as I know (and have seen in the 5800), the only time the thing lags is when it's processing the extremely flash heavy front page of Youtube.com... biggrin.gif

Other than that, it's been speedy enough for me... Granted, it doesn't have the FruitPhone's fancy transitions to mask operation speed to make things seem smoother then they already are (and the basic speed of the FruitPhone's OS is speedy enough as it is, thanks to the low res screen and the extremely speedy proc)... brows.gif

Come on, it's a budget touch phone... You WOULDN'T want Nok to stuff a 800MHz Proc + 3D Accelerator Chip in it and push it to us for 3.5k now would you? sweat.gif

Then you'd be saying it's too expensive for a Mid-Entry Phone... brows.gif

Ah crap... I'm feeding the zombie... sweat.gif

And any word if we're gonna get the 5800 XPM Shure Music Edition like HK? I'm all up for that... drool.gif
