The guys at iPhone spotted some code in the new iPhone 2.0 beta software that suggests Apple will use the Infineon 3G chipset. The code mentions "SGOLD3," which is a series of chips that Infineon produces.
This simply means, 3G may not be the only hardware upgrade you will be seeing in the second generation iPhone. Apple may or may not enable this function but these function are theoretically supported if that chip is used!

ohh...that means is the IPhone will be coming for 3G S-GOLD3H supports HSDPA category 8 (7.2 Mbps), cameras of up to 5-megapixels, MPEG4/H.263 hardware acceleration and "video telephony, streaming, recording and playback."???

It doesnt means that the coming iPhone will have 5MP cam or HSPDA. Those might developed for far future model

btw one thing to ponder, if the S-GOLD3 is for far future model, why the reference to it is included in the beta version? (read the 3G Evidence! on ZiPhone site). yeah the BETA firmware. i dunno, hehehe...

some say first country outside US may be Japan...
and that even in june/july we will still receive 1st gen

Guys..heard from my friend in us which he's master in all these software engineers n stuff...and he told me that. the new 3G that gonna release in US might not be able to use in malaysia cause of the different frequency and more which i myself not sure about this..
any of u guys knwo about this matters?

Can anyone estimate the 3G iPhone price?

the price in US? prob gonna be the price when iphone just come out $599 or 699 (my though)
and if ppl bringing in to malaysia n sell.. prob RM2500~2900 (depends on how well lyn sellers wanna fix the price to earn certain $ profit)

if it does come with all those new capabilities 3G, 5MP camera etc, it's sure going to be hell expensive....

even now, i read a news that says in german (if i remember correctly) already iphone dropped price to $155.
and that's even b4 3G model out but just the news becomes solid

why the apple don't just launch IPhone to the whole world?Thn whole world can use it juz like other hp company Nokia SE Moto etc. And apple also can earn the huge profit too.

Apple already earning alot from iPhone sales let alone in the States. The reason why is that it's exclusive and locked to AT&T network for now, and they already gain alot from the States smartphone market share.

Launching it on other countries will have it's crisis also. If certain countries can't adapt to it then it will be overstocked.

they just need to sell little and earn a lot with the current way, with the contract. (profitability)
it's not easy to convince telcos from every part of this world to adopt the same business model, considering that the iPhone itself is not gonna priced that cheap without being subsidized. (market)
a lot of people thinks that an EDGE phone doesn't deserve the current price tag, eventhough if it got 3G they r not using it either. (mentality)

when Apple released the 3G version, then it will be easier to be marketed around the world.

Most likely apple can make some kind of "arrangement" to top up the old phone , this is how the made business, cause I dont see any point on holding the 3G on their first release. Its so obvious that they are squezzing more and more to the apple lovers like us.

Well my iPhone is on the way to Malaysia now and I dont think Malaysia's 3G is worth to use. Most of the place you find 3G will have a good wifi connection so why bother with 3G. The coverage sucks.
