Which 'simple' song that you know is difficult to play perfectly/cleanly ?
Now trying studio version of neil zaza's i'm alright.
It doesn't have a crazy tempo, very nice just around 130+ (considered slow), slower than the previous song I learnt, which I eventually played even faster, but unlike previous song, this one does not ascend/descend the strings properly.
It's full of string skipping, and it's quite a frustration if you're not used to it.
A lot of shifting wrists around too. Very hard for me to get clean and smooth/even in timing, so I am playing it really really slow, but at least I am able to memorize the notes and patterns.
I demo the first few parts to a friend who is quite a fast guitarist and could play faster than me. But the fella hardly played string skipping stuff, so this song with beat that is much slower than what he usually plays, is giving him a lot of headache, because not just string skipping, but the notes are difficult for him to memorise because it is jumping around the frets. (I still think eugene's trick bag is far worse and wins the jump around the frets award)
He had trouble as well rolling 1 finger across 3 strings and only hitting the 1rd and 3rd on the same fret.
Some of these 'easy' songs can bring even some pros to their knees.

dude, a song's difficulty level is not based on tempo alone.
it's all about the techniques and skill required to play that song.
a lot of technically challenging songs are not even up to the tempo set by, say, punk rock.. but they are very much more difficult to play.

QUOTE(echobrainproject @ Apr 9 2008, 08:46 AM) nailing down the effects setup for incubus' songs +1 any effects setups lessons/tutorials for non-experienced effects user? Songs by incubus, radiohead, the mars volta etc. are a real challenge to play with effects.

QUOTE(Cello @ Apr 8 2008, 11:51 PM) Dang! Beat me to it! I'll add further to this... NO one plays with the sheer intensity like the guitar legend does... NO one can come up with the simple but not so simple chord progression that would make the most progressive bands blush in embarrassment... NO one has the incredible showmanship as this particular band has on stage... NO one chugs (or djent? or chiang?) like the man does... The list could go on forever...

Jimi Hendrix - Red House Typical blues progression, easy to play, easy to wank all over but can you nail the feel, phrasing, note-choice and tone?

That goes along with PF's Comfortably Numb as well, or any of their songs I think. This post has been edited by quarantined: Apr 9 2008, 04:09 PM

I remember having a hard hard time nailing Pink Floyd's Time solo lolx, but that was when I was using gauge 11 hahah. Gilmour's solos are pretty straight forward compared to Hendrix's but oh boy, does he make each note count. The climax for Comfortably Numb (Namely the Pulse and Live 8 performances) is absolutely the bomb lololx! It's like his strat is channeling waves and waves of orgasm.

Syd barrett is quite unique too, but too little recordings of him to make accurate judgment. i don't think that there really are "non-difficult" songs that are difficult. Unless you mean the ones that sound really nice flowing and smooth, but when you see the tab your eyes and jaw drop out. Probably have to put neil zaza's "im alright" high up the list. Neal Schon songs too.
