QUOTE(lwliam @ Aug 13 2008, 10:21 PM) i dont see the need for a 20+ second shot hi sifu i use AV mode to take those shot. shutter speed is automated... perhaps u could give me a point or 2 for taking macro shots. i tired M mode but when i jack up the aperture to F32, picture come out totally black if i wunna use fast shutter speeed. QUOTE(lwliam @ Aug 13 2008, 11:30 PM) why F32? use your largest aperture size (in your case, f2.8) for narrow depth of field DOF. ok sifu when i use F2.8 for 1:1 magnification, the picture ermm, below are some example. so may i know how can i attain a clear picture with 1:1 on F2.8 aperture. for example, i want the coin to look clear, not partially blur/ oof. i'm a noob, i dont read much, i just do pratical test with my cam. hope you could shed some light. QUOTE(msn83235502 @ Aug 14 2008, 12:58 AM) hi nicotine. u may use larger aperture number with a slower shutter speed to take that. or u also can shoot the coin directly from above, not from the side. hope it helps. thanks for the feedback, tried just now, somehow it produce better result with acceptable blur/bokeh/oof for flat object.. other question, for subjects such as insect ? for example .. i might get very sharp picture on the head n but, but when it come to other part of the body .. it go OOF, example of F2.8 shots This post has been edited by nicotine: Aug 14 2008, 01:45 AM

QUOTE(vincent_audio @ Aug 14 2008, 01:36 AM) it's pretty fine to have 20+ sec. since your subject is not moving however, mine cannot have 20+ sec. as i need to freeze motion » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « you need more lights for that small of aperture or your shutter will have to be slower. U can achieve faster shutter by having higher ISO or more lights/flash. In my case i have use a flash. I do agree with you that u should not be using f2.8 as I found macro to have shallow DOF due to it's long focal length (90mm/100mm). As such, I'll need smaller aperture like 7.1 and above to get my subject sharp. noted, will try to experiment with the ISO and flash when i shot insect again in this coming weekend. But one more thing, wont the flash make the picture dark when it's fired during day time eg 9am-10am ? i dont really like those silhouette kind of feel picture.. hmm ... anyway thank you sifu
