Hey guys. I know that there are gatherings for the purpose of playing the DS together but sometimes the rest of us aren't able to come because we are not nearby KL or Kuching to attend. So why not arrange an official game night for us in this board? It's where we set a time and day where we go online with our DS and play the games of our choice with fellow forumers from this site. We can manage our chats with IM like Yahoo or others.

I was inspired on how DSFanboy would organize a gaming night every week. So why can't we do it too? I think it would be fun and gives us more opportunities to play our DS competitively with other people. What do you guys say?

Why not? biggrin.gif

I'm still looking at general response whether we should have it or not.

Okay guys it seems that the responses so far are generally good. I've given it some thought and here is the system that I would implement if we are going to do this. Please go though them and give suggestions on how to improve.

First, create an email address with Yahoo in order to be able to use Yahoo Messenger for chatting purposes. I personally like MSN better but seeing how many have Yahoo more, let's just go with the majority. You can also use your existing Yahoo email address but I know some people are a bit reluctant to share their private email address with someone they are not familiar with so why don't you just create one for the purpose of this WiFi gaming session? If you don't mind all that then just skip this step.

Second, post your nickname, Yahoo email address and Friend Codes for each game you want to play online in the thread here in lowyat. In each post, we will post all the games we want to play online and the friend codes for each game. Everyone should post only once as to not clutter the thread up with multiple posts which may confuse people and cause inefficiency. If you want to make changes, edit your posts.

Third, take note of the time and date for the next Nintendo WiFi gaming session. Log in the internet 30 minutes earlier so you can register friend codes for people you want to play with and also add friends through Yahoo Messenger. This will ensure that there will be no hassle when it comes to playing games or communication later on. It will also give some time for new people to register our friend codes when he or she joins us later on.

Fourth, start the session. Have fun. LOL at each other for making stupid mistakes. Chat with each other while others are playing. Kick some peoples' @$$ and brag how great you are at a particular game.

Fifth, say goodnight. Take note for the next session and hope to see each other again in the next session.

So, what do guys think? Should there be other steps taken or is it perfect? Or maybe I'm forgetting some other thing? Please tell me so I could make adjustments. Thanks.

To address some of the issues brought up by penman:

first: yahoo or MSN all can talk 2gether oredi... therefore, need not create additional;
I feel not everyone is willing to share their private email address with friends with someone who they don't know as well. That is the reason I suggested this step so that you can protect your privacy or you can simply distinguish which friends are which. If you don't mind all that then you can simply skip this step. Also, I feel it's better if we stick to one IM so that we can easily contact with each other. Having multiple IMs can cause a few headaches especially when trying to contact with each other and setting up friend codes. So I believe having everyone in the same channel (by using the same IM) at the same time will ease communication problems.

2nd: there's already a thread where LYN members post their WFC - HERE;
True but I feel not everyone there wants to play in the Nintendo WiFi gaming session I'm setting up. Plus it's easier if we have it in a thread so that we know who is willing to participate in this session and what games they are willing to play. By having a dedicated thread also it will help us to search for their friend codes better. You might think it's troublesome to type all those numbers again but why don't you just copy and paste? tongue.gif

thumbup.gif to you too. Thanks for reading through and giving suggestions.

Any other issues I need to address? If there are no more then just give me a thumbup.gif . Thanks everyone.

Great. It seems all of you are really interested in this and I'm happy someone started a poll for which IM to use. Well, I suggest we use Yahoo since it is quite accessible but we'll see from the poll. Having webcam is not really important I feel since we'll be more focused on playing games rather than staring at each other's face. Most of us are guys anyway so nothing really interesting to look at (unless if you swing THAT way blink.gif ) Since this is a Nintendo WiFi gaming night, it's for both DS and Wii. I will play the DS only though since I only own a DS.

Okay it seems that everyone prefers MSN as their IM of choice so we'll go there. As for starting the session, I am thinking of trying it out this Saturday night. I'll make a thread for it.

EDIT: Thread started HERE.
