Hi, I will be interviewed next week for the post above. Can somebody help me?. I have asked similar question in other threads about Public Bank but no answer. So anyone could help me, what is the job scope and the interview process? What question would be asked in the interview?

it depend on the manager who interview you.... some of the manager kinda bossy but some kinda good... some only asked bout situation that you can and cant handle while some throw a question like, what you expect from the bank and what you can contribute to the bank....
work at pbb before.... the manager that interview me kinda bossy and giving me hard times... but then dunno why he said i performed very well and hire me.... |

I working as MT now.Good pay.Actually when they say work as MT ,it is not reallly work.It actually training and learning.Like going to college. But instead PB pay you 2.8k every month to learn which is cool!.
Now all i do is read magazines and learn how they operate.Have to go Bangi for 2 weeks for training wan.Fridays you get to go back at 4.45pm.Mon to Thurs go back at 6pm.Everyday start work at 9 am.Been working for 4 days. Furthermore,in february this year,PB founder and owner paid RM 1200 cash to each officer and RM 800 for clerk. This is not including ur basic pay.So in short,he just give free cash to everyone when he got mood.PB is the best paying bank for now. |

Haha, 4 days only of coz you wun be doing much. I was MT last year (2007) at PB Bangsar branch and its true, generally 1st year, its more like a training period whereby u need to Bangi often for training. But its definitely not honeymoon though cos after the 1st month or so you will be given tasks to do and u will need to perform. Its not a test or something, its really a job tasks whereby u need to go and meet clients, some corporate clients as well. Now all i do is read magazines and learn how they operate.Have to go Bangi for 2 weeks for training wan.Fridays you get to go back at 4.45pm.Mon to Thurs go back at 6pm.Everyday start work at 9 am.Been working for 4 days. Oh yeah, generally MT means you will be rotated through the different departments within the bank but PB prefer their MT to concentrate on something. Be it credit department, sales, wealth management and so on. Anyway if you don't like the department u are in, u can ask for transfer. So its ok. Interview in PB is quite easy, well thats what i feel as their question are nothing out of this world and it is the kind of question someone SHOULD expect to be asked when they go for interview. Something like :- 1. introduce urself 2. what was ur greatest achievement and how you achieve it 3. tell me what was ur greatest obstacles in life and how u overcome it 4. give a scenario to u and ask what would u do if u are in that situation. Generally its something concerning tight deadline and ur colleagues are making it hard for u 5. what is ur strength and weaknesses |

There is two types. One is like you said, have tellers under you and you will have the authority to authorize all transactions.Another type is in charge of loan, credit department.SOO has higher authority and can authorize or recommend higher amount of loan.Still need HQ approval though. Both of these are at branch.Tell ya something, work in branch is a hell lot better than work in HQ. |

How true Ivan, I have to agree to hat you've said, seriously other than the benefits and salary I don't think there's any other things that attract me to typical chinaman company. I've experience it and I would have to say I really cannot tahan this kind of environment any longer. I felt that learning, passion and having to see ur future in a company is very important. I guess starting high to me now doesn't mean a thing anymore. I want to have the opportunity to learn more when I'm young now.
As like what you said for the females, this is so true, I'm requested to be an usher for the dinner. How sexy i do not know yet. Usher for red carpet welcoming those big shots. Like what I've heard they said pretty girls win the heart of those you know who.. but I find it so ridiculous, to use this kind of methods to get promotion, prefer ppl appreciate my work than all this kind of short cut route. I'm sure Ivan u've change a job right =P I think the culture there, does not fit many young grads? |

QUOTE(princessgalaria @ May 7 2008, 10:07 PM) How true Ivan, I have to agree to hat you've said, seriously other than the benefits and salary I don't think there's any other things that attract me to typical chinaman company. I've experience it and I would have to say I really cannot tahan this kind of environment any longer. I felt that learning, passion and having to see ur future in a company is very important. I guess starting high to me now doesn't mean a thing anymore. I want to have the opportunity to learn more when I'm young now. wah, girls become sex object in corporate world eh?.... I'm sure Ivan u've change a job right =P I think the culture there, does not fit many young grads? good luck for the dinner... hi ppl! i personally think that PBB is not a bad choice to start of for a fresh grad after all.. they provide attractive basic salary, ESOS n EX-GRATIA (something like bonus & PBB shares).. no harm working dere for 2-3yrs den jump over to other banks.. by doing this in 3-4yrs time, u can have an increment of almost 2k!! anyway, if any of u really wana apply, i can recommend somebody to be ur referee.. my relative works in PBB!!

Hi Guys & Gals,
Appreciate if anybody or ex-staff from banking line can guide me on this. I'm interested in the management trainee post (not just PBB, any bank will do). Here are some of my education lvl & working experience: Qualification : SPM (Currently taking a profesional diploma course in a University; will complete by end of this year) = Current results obtained ; 3As, 2Bs & 2Cs. Working experience: Clerical & admin : 1 year F&B Manager : 3 years Sales Exec : 4 years Business & Operation Exec : 1 year I have a lot of experience in sales, business, operation & management but just that i don't have a diploma yet. What are my chances of getting employed? If they take me, how much do you think they'll offer me? Thanks for the guidance Added on July 23, 2008, 7:21 pmHi~~ Anyone can help? However, for the sales and marketing executive, what u r responsible is only sales right? So how r we going to get promoted and I don't think there is a very good career ladder compared to management trainees program. Hope someone can share. Thanks!!! |

QUOTE(nabelon @ Jul 29 2008, 04:58 PM) Always call them in advance (e.g.: a day earlier). Tell them you have been offered another oppotunity somewhere else and thank them for the invitiation for interview. It's a small world and you might deal with the company again in the future so try not to 'burd bridges'. |

Only one interview, their interview can say is the easiest among all, no assessment, mgmt trainee for pbb don't go through such process pbb mostly hiring for sales people now .. if you don't wanna do sales don't accept the offer, sales in banking industry is not easy at all my advise is if u don't really like the banking industry that involves alot of tedious work don't join for the sick of the pay n benefits, you might regret in the end .. also you'll meet alot of unreasonable customers in bank if you work in frontline, think about it before accepting the offer, don't be like me having great regrets now |

in fact, if you survey the current market price of management trainee and fresh grad in MNC is at 3K and above. so 2.8K + 120 handphone allowance is nothing

Sadly you can't apply for the post online, so you'll have to send it through the almighty e-mail way. Snail mails are not encouraged and dropping your application personally at the HQ or any branches is a definite no-no.P.S. Make sure to list down which department that you prefer to be placed into in your application http://ww2.publicbank.com.my/hr/Management%20Trainees.html |

I've got a call from PB a couple of days back asking me to attend an interview with them for Sales & Marketing under the Management Trainee program. The person that called me was NEO wonder if anyone here has got calls from them as well? Well working your ass off for any company is already a Norm here and i've got no complains about it as it is expected.

I do have a fair share of opinions regarding their sales&marketing team. But let's see how it goes. I am aware of the pay but that's not my primary concern as working environment plays a pivotal role for me before landing a job.

If not mistaken, Public Bank Management Trainee focuses a lot on sales.
They may put you in different product department, eg: credit cards, loans, trusts, funds, etc. |

not in kl branch... yeah u r rite! hp center is damn bz, phone every minutes also ring, dealer ask about rate & value of car, attend customer sign agreement and bla bla bla......... u have no time to rest, have to complete process all the loan application in 1 or 2 days, if u not complete ur task, u have to stay back and rush for ur assigment.
For credit GT, u not only doing the loan process, u have to do some management report, like monthly promotion reports ...... u might get nervous if u kenot finish all the task, and again when u submiteed all the cases to manager for approval, the time while waiting for the approval, u will feel very nervous too, like wat u r waiting for SPM result. after the result come out, u r not finish ur job yet,u have to follow up ........................................ |

i have a lot of friend from public bank as myself was working there before......
As what i always say, it depends your luck and your "Kam Ching" with your bos.....In public bank, if your bos ok with you, then you are save, if your boss like you, then your probability to get promotion higher, if your boss love you, walow, you are guaranteed be promoted soon, if your boss doesnt like you, you better transfer out from that branch/dept or look for a new job....else, your life like in hell.... |

I have been to their so called "Sales and Marketing" interview today. Questions were simple and straight forward, the whole process went through smoothly until a part where they told me, "Do you know that the Sales and Marketing Management Trainee position that you have applied is actually a purely 100% Sales oriented job, whereby, you need to spend most of the time outside looking for potential customers and sell our services to them". To make matters worst, they even told me that they will not provide any contacts and that we are out on the island alone searching for our own customers.
Hence, they proceed to the next question by asking "Is this the job that you are looking for?" Point Blank i told them NO, as far as i am concern that's not what i've understood on in terms of Sales and Marketing. In terms of the so called, Blue Form that most of the forumers are talking about? Yea they did asked me to fill it in after the interview and i did that. Wondering why i would need the Blue Form after i have told them that i can't take up the job role. |

GT confirmed after 6mths of probabation, and straight away u will get a Senior Operation Officer(SOO) title. There's alot of grade in SOO as well. Salary will be revised after 1 yr. *if u r intrested, just let them know u wish to be in the so called-Front Line post.Yeap, everyone also needs to promote everything...because we are more or less focus in customer servicing when it comes to banking operations. What question would be asked in the interview? Arguing on the net is like participating in Paralimpik. Even if you win, you are still a retard! = that's rude !! |

There are a few parking spots.
1) Inside of public bank. Early birds before 10am to 5pm cost RM5.50 2) Open air behind public Bank. If you buy their monthly coupons (10), it will cost you RM5.50. If not per entry is RM6.0 3) Next to Bangunan Angkasa Raya RM7.0 per entry. |

Well, tat's not the end of story... parking inside of public bank can be a nightmare. On a very very si beh sui day, you can be stuck inside the parking for 2 hours. And I am referring to 2nd floor to go out to the main road.

QUOTE(glassenergiz @ Jul 16 2010, 05:47 AM) To those who is being called up for interview at PUBLIC BANK especially in Corporate Banking, or so called for discussion, here are 10 reasons why you should not EVER join Public Bank, Corporate Banking... LOL simply because public bank corporate banking is relatively small..their strength lies in retail banking.. or property financing. other than that...fail 1) it's a F-up place. politics to the max. 2) Managers are like CCTV. They monitor every single moment. 3) You always get the hands me down item. Even though managers are using PCs which are less than 2 years old, they will still get those newer ones. 4) Increments - no matter how donkey hardwork u put it, the increment is merely peanuts... lowest is 5% or around RM120. Branch officers get even 3x more than this. 5) Promotion - same like increment. It's not performance based but rather than quota basis and boot licking tactics. 6) You won't learn anything... A probation clerk was fired because she did not perform. The truth is she was asked to search for files, wipe papers and shred papers. 7) If you don't perform, they would not extend your probation. They will forced you to sign the letter that you did not perform. And the next mon there is a termination letter on your table. 8) When bosses fired you they won't be personally hand the letter to the poor staff. Instead they always MIA. And the letter is always backdate (no advance notice) 9) The bosses even worst... meeting always 1 hour after office hours. 10) You have to come back to office no matter what time or where you are (including if you are on your lunch break or on the way back in the LRT). So pls do not fall into Corporate Banking trap. Join the branch. They are ten folds better than the above f-up department. |

As I suspected, they rejected me.
When I attended the interview, there were 4 pairs of interviewers conducting the interviews in 4 different rooms. My interviewers were merciless. They bombarded me with technical questions. Never even bothered to ask me about myself (y'know, general textbook questions that most people seem to get but not me This post has been edited by Enclave Recruit: Aug 28 2010, 11:28 PM |

But what I really want to know is, is there an added advantage to join their bank as a MT? Like do you come in as a junior manager or is there a structure programme/training that MT go thru? Like Citibank, most fresh graduates that gets hire are officer level; where as under their Graduate programme, u go in straight as an Assistant Manager. |

Don't bother about the corporate culture, hierarchy, perks, etc etc , just join for the experience and the RM 2.8K.
Quit after 1 or 2 years and then apply to another bank lo. Some of my friends are doing this. |

QUOTE(glassenergiz @ Sep 1 2010, 06:12 AM) Basically Public Bank or should I renamed it as Paria Bank do not have such structure. Their fresh graduates and graduate trainees are the same. If you just graduated, you will be put under Graduate Trainee for 6 months. Then PB will confirm you (provided you performed) with no increment. Then you have to wait for another 6 months to become senior officer with peanuts increment. ASSISTANT MANAGERS, SALES & MARKETING SUPPORTTheir officer structure are as follows: Headoffice Staff: Graduate Trainee (GT) > Senior Officer (SO) > Accounts Manager (Lvl1)> Accounts Manager (Lvl2) > Assistant Manager > Senior Assistant Manager > Manager > Senior Manager > Deputy Director > Director / Head of Department > General Manager > Senior General Manager. Branch Staff Graduate Trainee (GT) > Senior Operation Officer (SOO) > Officer-In-Charge (OIC) > Business Manager > Branch Manager > Regional Manager. At this point most of the staff will reach their retirement. However, some of them also got transferred back to HQ. Their position will be as follows : Senior Manager > Deputy Director > Director / Head of Department > General Manager > Senior General Manager. Do you have any opinions regard this position and what is the fair pay for it ? |

QUOTE(YuNGSeNG @ Sep 3 2010, 11:27 PM) ASSISTANT MANAGERS, SALES & MARKETING SUPPORT I presumed your position is in Sales and Marketing Division in HQ. Quite ok the department. I heard the bosses over there are quite good. Fair pay would depends on your existing salary and the percentage increment you are looking. Normally the ideal asking price would be 15-22% increment. Knowing PBB would nego it's best for you to give a higher percentage.Do you have any opinions regard this position and what is the fair pay for it ? Credit Analyse can be interesting depending on how you look at it. For example : you get to look at how firms structure their debt if you're corporate related. Or if its personal, you get to know how individuals declare and structure their personal Net Worth. A credit analyst once told me, once a young guy walk in asking for a loan. Boy was he shock to find out that the guy earns more than a MILLION a year but he is only declaring 30 to 50k as taxable income. So as an anaylst you get to see such interesting stuff once in a while. |

I have heard different. They do not continue your probation period. They ask you to leave. I'm surprised yours they even wait for 6 months. From what I heard, you dont hit your sales target after 3 months they show you the door. |

QUOTE(HaoYuan @ Jan 5 2011, 04:26 PM) Hi HaoYuan! I'm a fresh graduate with a degree in accounting and finance. I was a little nervous since it was my first interview. The interview questions weren't hard but I gave pretty brief answers. They asked a lot on my job preferences and what I know about the job. I guess this part sounded rehearsed, which I did. Hope to do better in future interviews! This post has been edited by Mandily: Jan 7 2011, 08:45 AM |

cant really recall. normal introduction question. then asked me about my previous internship program in other bank and will i go back there if they want to hire me and also reasons why i dont. i was too naive and said boring job cause the works tat i did is only data entry and processing. operation works but more like a clerk work rather than a bank officer work (I didn't mention this). then asked me whether i know what is management trainee and position to apply (sales or operation). if sales, which dept? (unit trust, hire purchase, merchant sales, mortgage and insurance). btw, 2 interviewers.
while waiting outside, i saw some of the interviewees interviewed by single interviewer and it is very quick. mine around 30mins. i just read the interview tips thread, i did few mistakes. i didn't give them a handshake cause they ask me to sit straight away after saying hi.. i was suppose to be like selling myself but i didn't. |

You have to prepare well before attending each interview. e.g. Reading up on the company background, find out more about your job scope, your career path if you get the job. |

Wish to ask if anyone knows what is the job scope & functions of it? Many thanx!!! Hey from previous posts, i read through some that after the interview, if you are asked to fill up a blue/green form, you're 95% confirmed to be getting the job. As you have already gotten yourself a job, did you fill in tht form after your interview?Happy 2010 Chinese New Year btw btw, good luck and congrats for your new job! Even though you have to travel by air / road is worth it. this is terrible!!!!However, please don't join Corporate Banking. so far 3 have already resigned. 1st on 1/1/2011, second on valentine's day and third on Chap Goh Meh. Bosses there are crazy...especially those males. They don't care whether you left the office or in training in Bangi, they will ask you come back all the way to office in Jalan Ampang just to discuss case. If you don't, they will cold-storage you. but how about if the job is sales |

since you're going for a management trainee position, there's a likelihood that you'll be placed to work in the hire purchase deparment at the taman maluri branch. do not accept the job if they're going to place you there.

the working culture there is terrible. aside from the long hours, you're forced to come back on saturdays. you're just going to be pushed to process as many cases as possible so that the marketing officers & managers meet their KPIs, which in turn make them look good. on paper, you're a trainee, but they don't actually care about your learning experience.

Hey guys, Public Bank has been hiring plenty of people lately as credit analysts and sales management trainees. If yall are looking for a job, you should apply there. The pay is pretty standard for all Mgt Trainees at RM2.8k.
Interviewers are all super nice and make you feel comfortable as well. My 2nd interview, the director of corporate planning took me out for coffee!! |

Another thing, what helped me win the position i think was the fact that i spoke. ALOT. Upon going into the 1st interview room, shake their hands and just begin talking about yourself without being asked. You ask THEM if you can begin to tell them about yourself. Then talk till the cows come home.
Questions asked will not be super difficult. Just do light reading on Public Bank and their mission statements and whatnot. The hardest question that was asked is "What would your friends say about you?" Good luck to all the applicants, i hope i helped somewhat Added on March 18, 2011, 10:33 am QUOTE(LivingLife @ Mar 18 2011, 10:18 AM) 3 days but that was because i met them at a networking event in TaylorsThis post has been edited by dryll: Mar 18 2011, 10:33 AM |

Hey guys, am here to share my interview experience with PBB.
Well, after i completed my course and desperately need a job, i sent my CV to PBB several times cuz there's no response! i even ask a branch manager to help me pass my CV to HQ's HR but yet still no reply. UNTIL, after 2 months, my fren the branch manager told them i was about to accept the job offer as sales management trainee from OCBC, then only they called me immediately to schedule an interview ( inform them in the morning, called me by afternoon already =.=) anyhow, the interview was very casual. they didnt ask the usual interview questions though. they just ask alot about your background, and your studies/result and even some family stuffs. so there's not much pressure on it. it's more of clarifications than interview. i applied for trainee credit analyst but they ask if im interested on marketing and processing in corporate division. said its almost the same job scope but just that i need to do corporate sales. and i said yes, cuz my fren told me though its difficult but it has better prospect. they also asked stuffs regarding on what documents are required if you were to process personal loans/SME loans... and the 5C of credit processing. Then, they said if i were shortlisted for the corporate division, I will have to attend 2nd round interview with the division manager. I also told them i need a fast reply from them cuz OCBC is waiting for my reply. and WOW, they really efficient after that. receive their call on the 3rd day, even more clarifications to be done over the phone. and woot, the next monday i was offered the position already and starting on 4th april. no need 2nd interview O.O the whole process took around 1 week eventhough they said should be 2 weeks time. my result is average, 65.79% overall. GPA 5.17/7 p/s: anyone currently working or has worked at marketing and processing in corporate division? i need guidelines and more info. thanks This post has been edited by jasmine_wms: Mar 26 2011, 02:31 AM |

went for an interview with Public Bank and i got a very good call today. all i can say is the interviewers are very nice people. you have to be nice too.
Important tips: 1) Speak with CONFIDENCE. live and breathe it! 2) Speak with proper english, practice at home 1st before you attend the interview. (think of what questions they will ask) in my experience: HR asked behavioural questions to get to know you Management asked more technical questions All the best to all and have a blessed week This post has been edited by Jagiya: Apr 14 2011, 05:21 PM |

During her 4th month, they send her to Bangi for 3 - 4 weeks class room training. Most corporate nowadays prefer to set 70 - 90% on the work training and the remaining on classroom training as, on the work training would give a better learning and experience to new joiners. |

well, you'll definitely be interviewed by the managers after passing the 1st interview with HR because they're the ones who are recruiting. they would want to evaluate the potential(or lack thereof) of future staff.
thanks a lot, did you apply btw? |

yeap, i majored in finance. i'm not sure whether they accept or not but if you're up against another candidate with a banking/finance major, you're at a disadvantage. besides, a dealer has to have some knowledge on treasury management. AFAIK, there are two departments, one's corporate sales and another interbank.

Finally found out who called me on Monday. Going for second interview with the manager on this coming Friday.
I was curious why some people got the job after first interview and why some need to undergo second interview? ); Anyone aware what department is for 20th floor of menara Pbb? This post has been edited by LivingLife: Apr 13 2011, 04:43 PM |

@jellypie, it takes 2-3 weeks? boy, that's pretty long. if they told you so, maybe you should wait. although i dont see any harm in calling, it shows you're a go-getter.
@Livinglife, good on ya, all the best for friday! Like i said, the manager's the one who will be your boss, so being interviewed by them is kinda understandable. i dont get why people will be offered the job after the 1st interview because that's just with HR but how about your direct boss whom you'll report to? Thanks Jagiya! Good luck in your future undertaking and hope i'll see you in PBB soon! ;D
I was told that 1/3 of my job scope will be handling application, 1/3 is handling customers, more to customer service and 1/3 is to do something on system testing. Anyone mind to share what is the system testing all about? |

Yeah, applied for trainee credit analyst.
My story is quite complicated. I went to interview on 29th March then i received a call frm them on 31st March asking my preferred location. Then on this Monday they actually called me but i did not pickup, sleeping hehe then nobody called back. So i called back them today and was connected to the manager and she personally asked me to actually come for interview on Friday. |

All the best to you too! Normally it will take them 1-2weeks to come out with the results, keep checking your mail, if you did not receive any rejection email then you are safe! Yeah i told them my first preference will be in HQ, think you actually can learn more in HQ as well. BTW, anyone can help on the department for 20th floor in Menara PBB? So i went for pb bank interview on 18 april, and today, i received a call from them. But the weird point is that they call me not because to offer me a job, but to tell me my application unable to process currently, and ask when i finish my final exam for this last semester (i applied the job while i'm still studying in final semester). Then the staff ask me to call her back after i finish my final exam. Any opinion regarding my case ? Thanks in advance. |

Even u submit the cover letter claiming that u want non-sales, at the end, they will offer u sales job also. Then your choice to accept or reject. Hope u got different case from my friends =) |

Yeah no rotation for pbb, this is the main difference between pbb and other banks because I did ask them this question.
They told me that by rotating in different departments for 1 or 2yrs the candidates can't actually learn things in depth and moreover you will not have the chance to select which department you would love to join but for pbb they will ask you what is your interest and they will try to place you in the department you wish to go in. This is what they told me during my first interview with pbb. And as I know there are 2types of MT, one is related to sales and another one is nonsales. Management trainee can be in any department, I applied for trainee credit analyst but end up they offer me graduate trainee in crm and product development. So I think they will place you accordingly. Not just limited to credit analyst only. This post has been edited by LivingLife: Apr 26 2011, 06:17 PM |

got the call to go for an interview, the person who called was aware that i'm not applying for a sale position
however, the position is unknown yet since i only indicated a non sales position and more to operations (deposited my resume during career fair) they say will see what is right for me during the interview. after reading some comments here, some said they will offer you position involving sales after the interview, is that true? and how likely was that gonna happen, don't want to go all the way there and got into sales in the end |

Not necessary because mine was quite short, i remember when i come out another candidate asked "wah you so fast one" haha.
Er i think it depends on individual because there are lotsa of HR ppl interviewing the candidates, just pray hard you get a nice one! I think there will be 2 interviewers interviewing you at the same time. Just try to be humble and give response to whatever they tell u (; This post has been edited by LivingLife: May 10 2011, 12:11 PM |

In my case they dint ask me technical questions, more to standard questions that you will encounter in any interviews.General question like tell me about yourself (automatically introduce yourself if they are silenced once u enter) , what is your strength, etc...generally will no ask. Maybe because i am not major in finance / banking, my piece of advice, i think its better for candidates to go thru the website and equip self with all the technical question if you are major in banking or even you are not. I myself applied for trainee credit analyst and i basically studied some of the basic 5Cs' as well and the process in approving loan, just in case. QUOTE(EmmaPrincess @ May 10 2011, 09:51 PM) Agree with LivingLife, even you are not banking/finance background (like me - Business background), you should know some of the technical questions. For example, in my interview, they ask what documents the borrower (loan) have to prepare, then they ask bout 5C (as i apply for trainee credit analysis). Then from 1 of the " C " >> character, they ask me how to verify a person or evaluate a person given that u heard from rumor the borrower is a big gambler. About the general question or standard question, i remember they only ask me one, that is "what thing u need to improve"...in other word, what is your weakness and how u improve it. Hope this can help =) |

Situational problem is when they give you a scenario, you are asked to solve and explain in your own way according to the situation given. Basically they just wanna test your problem solving skill.
