Hi Miss Terious, I will be going to Utar Biochem next year as well. Have you feel in the declaration form? I was wondering what you put for the year of study, 1 or 2 because I thought it was 3 years for biochem. Somehow, my question sounded like a stupid question as well. XD

And what is the condition for PTPTN? Do they need to see our STPM result?

Hi Akane. Our seniorest-senior XD. I was wondering if you undergo any industrial training for biochemistry and how many credit hour are we suppose to have to graduate. Is it compulsory to take pengajian malaysia? The letter said that we can take out some subject if we wanted.

Thank you so much for your time.

Haha, I'm not Neko guy. XD Oh so the industrial training can be chosen from a list or find it yourself. That's really nice. Working in NUS must be some experience and working in Sime Darby, such a famous company. Wow. How long is the industrial training? 3 months?

Aw man, I have to take Pengajian Malaysia and I thought I can skip it. I have enough of it in pengajian am. All the laws and Malaysia politics stuff. T_T I just want to ask about the exam. The thing you have study for the semester is what will be tested right? And the next sem, you won't have to be tested on the thing you did last sem right?

What about the credit hour? Are we suppose to reach a certain credit hour to graduate because that's what I heard from my friend in public uni. They need to get at least 110 credit hours to graduate.

Haha. Seriously, it depends on your lecturer. When you are learning Enzymology (year 2), you will be tested on Structural Biochemistry stuff from year 1. When you are doing Proteomics in Year 3, you will be tested on Enzymology from Year 2. Haha. Its a cycle. Things will get related to one another as you study deeper and as you go, you will felt that you are actually studying some similar stuff from previous semesters. So, like I said, if you lecturer is those syiok sendiri type, most probably she/he will come out with questions that is out of expectations.

The credit hour I stated in my previous post is my assumptions. I have no idea how much I have accumulated so far, as I dont remember that, but only my cgpa. Even that, its the first 2 digit that I can remember. Lol.

Thank you so much for the info. It's a big help.

[EDIT]OMG, the new course structure for Biochem...http://www.utar.edu.my/fset/index.jsp?fcatid=84&fcontentid=264&f2ndcontentid=828 I think I'm going to faint now. Instead of 2 semester, there's 3 semester. More elective and language. We have to take "SUN ZI'S ART OF WAR AND BUSINESS STRATEGIES" as well. More credit hours now... rclxub.gif

Haha and I think there won't be the 3 months sem break now. More courses. It's ok though. Some of the subject seems fun.

Tougher papers rearranged you say?

Oh, I realized there is a lot more stuff to study like principles of biotechnology. And I realized Y2S1 is the one that you say most of the hard subject is situated. Haha. I hope the subject is nearly the same as what I have study in STPM. Haha.

The 3rd semester mostly consisted of elective, industrial training and project and toxicology. I think this will be shorter that the one in sem 1 and 2. I hope so. I wonder what the co-curricular unit is about though. I'm quite excited about the other language subject. Hehe, me gonna choose Jap.

More subjects to study may be a good thing and it is time to work harder than STPM already.

Haha, I hope the 3rd semester is short. There's project on that time as well. Haha, Sun Zhi's Art of war: Business and strategy. You might wonder what it will help you with. Hahaha. But I heard this is a very good book and now we will have to study it...

QUOTE(Akane @ Nov 24 2008, 07:46 PM)
Well, its a good rearrangement. At least now, they know the importance of learning cell/plant tissue culture techniques, in which most of the senior miss out on. This subject is rather important, especially when you want to take up Final Year Project that is related to it. Hence you know why, Dr. Anna and Dr. Tee rejected all biochem student for their project.

But similarily, we have our advantage in learning details of metabolism and enzymology. Hence you know why Dr. Woo, Dr. Wong all prefer Biochem student. But I guess, learn the maximum will be the best and you will have more options in the future. Lol.

Haha, seriously, I want 3 months holiday badly ! Hahaha.
*
Haha the 3 months holiday can do wonders eh? Hehe. I guess we can't have that in the new course structure. BTW, do you rely more on lecturer note or books in your study Akane?

Lol. I bet during my 3 year of studies, I rely a lot on both lecture notes and textbooks. Wikipedia is one of my best friend, but it isnt reliable at times. But at least, wikipedia can give you some general understanding on most stuff. If you are in Bioscience, prepare yourself mentally to read journals for more realiable info. This apply when you have to do weekly lab reports.

Some textbook will be very useful, such as Biochemistry textbook. Get a good one, I forgotten the name la, but will post it out once I check it out. Can be used from Year 1 to Year 3. Core subject normally will require a textbook as the lecturer will not be able to teach everything to you. You will need to have self initiative to read it yourself, especially when exam is near biggrin.gif. Some lecturer will give test/ exam beyond your books. There is one good lecturer (she is in Kampar btw), who love to gives open book test. But mind you, even open book, you will not be able to find the answer. Lol.

Ooo wow. I think I'm going to borrow some books from the library and photostat it if it's too expensive to buy a book. I think there's a lot of reading to do and a good book is really needed. Thank you for the info Akane.

While doing lab reports, are you supposed to do it in the lab and hand it on the same day? That was how we did it in form 6 and it sucks. I can't even check my work after finishing and haha, I got so many wrongs sometime but the teacher was nice enough sometime to inform us...But only sometimes...I lost so many marks...Can we partner with someone when writing the report?

I think you have to ask the utar people. You can write an inquiry or call them. I think actually you can get the wakil kampung to sign for you but I'm not sure. Hope that help.
