I sold mine at RM2.15 but now also pondering whether to to reinvest in Resorts.
*
Both Genting and Resorts are good bets. Probably we've heard that they were the bluest of blue chips. I wouldn't call them that after the son took over the reins, but they're still amongst the best in my books.

At least I'm still holding Genting.  smile.gif  But Genting hit my tp of RM4.50 today, in a dilemma whether to let go now, how do you think Resorts and Genting's earnings will be in Q1 2009?
*
I believe Resorts and Genting's first quarter will be better than 4Q 2008 due to the chinese new year crowd and fairly good CPO prices (for Genting's subsidiary, Asiatic). Please let us know if you feel otherwise.

I believe Genting's fundamentals are strong (at least in the first half of 2009, there could be cost overruns for the Sentosa resort which Genting might have to incur in Q3,Q4 of 2009). Having said that, investors still sold down Genting from RM3.60 to RM3.20 in February when Genting made a Q4 2008 lost which was only due to impairment losses. I'll agree that Genting's Q1 2009 results should be strong (hopefully).  biggrin.gif

I'm more of a long term investor, so I try not to let short term price pullbacks affect me. smile.gif

Just wait for whatever level of holding we have do wonders for us. We took the risks we are comfortable with, and now we reap the rewards. Of course not necessarily harvesting them yet. rclxms.gif

Back to 2.28. Looks like the fear has abated some since it didn't drop like a brick today.

The graph I use is provided by Hwang DBS, to be exact it's a daily opening and closing price candlestick graph for 6 years.

Resorts and Genting looks to have stopped hemorrhaging today.
*
The haemorrhage will start again if WHO ups the alert level one more notch.

Else, the wound would dry up; the flies move on to other fresh wounds; and beanstalks would sprout from the dry wound. Hohoho.. rclxm9.gif

Rename also can consider a good news?  shocking.gif

Look at Axiata. It's prices went up almost immediately after it was renamed from TMI. I know this is purely anecdotal, but Genting Malaysia does send out good vibes (i.e. better brand recognition) compared to Resorts World.

Where you got the news?

KUALA LUMPUR: Resorts World Bhd has proposed for a change of name to Genting Malaysia Bhd, its deputy chairman Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar said.

In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, he said the approval of shareholders for the change of name would be sought at a general meeting to be convened.

“The proposed corporate name change is to reflect the company’s country of listing, origin and current operations. As the company is a key subsidiary of Genting Bhd, the proposed change of name is also to reflect the direct relationship between the two entities,” he said.

He added the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) had approved the name change, and the change, if approved by shareholders, would be effective from the date of issuance of the certificate of incorporation on change of name by the CCM.

Meanwhile, another Genting group company, Asiatic Development Bhd, has also proposed to change its name, to Genting Plantation Bhd, its chairman Tan Sri Amin Mohd Osman said.

The company would also convene a general meeting to seek shareholder approval for the name change, he said.

“The proposed corporate name change is to reflect the principal activities of the company, which is primarily engaged in the commercial cultivation of oil palm and processing of palm products. As the company is a 54.7%-owned subsidiary of Genting Bhd, the proposed change of name is also to reflect the direct relationship with the holding company,” he said.

The CCM had also given its nod for the proposed name change, he said.

maybe nothing better to do, change name, shift office, change people etc feng shui qua

alot of funny things
*
Actually they should change the name since long time ago.

People always erroneously calls Resort Hotel (a hotel at Genting Highlands) as Resort World; while people (especially aunties and uncles) who bought RWB shares says that they have Genting shares.

Too much confusion might as well unify everything under a common name, for better or for worse.

alot of cash in hand will not really benefit the shareholder, it will use the $$ for takeover and buy stake in other casino.

the company will use public $$ to acquire other casino stake and not borrowing or raise funds by issue call warant etc
*
Yeah, but worse is using the cash for related party transactions. cry.gif
