Some ppl use 70-200 2.8f L for potrait shots, so that the model don feel so weird that u stand too near her/him... Can I ask a question? mmmm.. the lense is so long and huge, how to use for potrait ah? convenient meh?
*
not to say convenient or not convenient.. using dslr is already not convenient.. So why the heck care about convenience? LOL... some use 70-200 is to take portraits so that the model can express more of themselves because you are not around them and they do not know where you are too. For eg, wedding photography. some use 70-200mm even for studio shooting so that they get a clear separation of the blurred background and the model in the picture.

I'm a proud user of 70-200 f4L.
Here's one of my recent shots with this lens.

Buy f2.8 lar. I tell u................ see what happened to me, after 1+ week of f4L ownership oredi started looking for the speed of f2.8.  brows.gif  brows.gif  With the f4L on, I kept turning the Aperture selector hoping to go faster than f4 then oni remembered haiyaaaaaaaa my lens oni f4, reach limit oredi.  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

no lar.. i want F4 is because of the great details it gets.... really big big difference from 2.8... biggrin.gif and i seldom shoot at f2.8 one... really...

The f2.8 can always stop down to f4. The f4 cant step up to f2.8 when u really need the speed or the bokeh.  brows.gif
*
Yeah.. those of this factor too, but then again, F2.8 stopped down to F4, compare to the F4 L, details still not on par.. Im very picky on details one... tongue.gif f2.8 is also drooling lar... just like your siggy f2.8 tongue.gif

The f4L n f2.8 stopped down to f4 is about same. The 1 that's supposedly sharper is the new f4L IS.  If buying the f4L IS might as well go for the f2.8 lor at that price.
*
yeah.. it's the F4L IS im talking about. hehe.. 2.8 is big and heavy and filter diameter 77mm, that's the drawback... ehehe...

i want light, compact, smaller filter diameter which is 67mm.. i tried the 70-200 f2.8L. honestly.. it did not impress me... But your siggy did.. I guess it's because of the price VS performance ratio..

Ya lite n compact factor is no fight. The f4L sure is light. It feels like a feather compared to the f2.8, thats for sure. The f2.8 really need sum big arms. laugh.gif

refering to 70-200F2.8LIS , using F2.8 from 135 to 200MM is very soft on 1.6x crop body. unless u are using on FF camera.

for those who really wanna get it pls try whether you can accept the softness not
*
i cannot accept that softness.. LOL.. but im getting it because im planning to buy FF.. LOL!!!

Derek,

If you can get the IS, get the IS version. The IS is very useful. I don't have it coz i don't have the budget thats why i settled with the non-IS version. Been very happy with the lens, even at f4.

Here's another 2 photos, both shot @200mm.

really ar? wow, that means, I dun have to buy f/2.8 for indoor liao. So f/2.8 is for more bokeh only is it?  rclxms.gif
*
Not really, coz in my opinion, F2.8 is just too soft.. Yes, by using F2.8 indoor, u can use a lil higher shutter speed, but not to forget, u are also sacrificing for softness, DOF, etc etc, plus im not a bokeh lover. F2.8 + the focal length, the bokeh is really really creamy...

Both F4L and F2.8L, have its own advantage.. Im favouring the F4L more towards the F2.8L is because it fulfils my needs.

i don't intend on getting 70-200 f2.8L lenses. smile.gif
long time already BUT not at the top of my shopping list only.

Oh... heheh.... i really like that crispy feel produced by the F4L.. >< cant stop thinking of it..
