It's a great lense. The output usually needs some sharpening, but all in all, it's renditions of scenes are pretty darn good. I wouldn't say it's soft, of course you can get the sharper non-IS version (doesn't have the resolution decreasing optical groups used in the IS mechanism), but if you ask me, the IS and low aperture make low light shooting a charm and of course offers the best decrease in shooting limitation. I usually don't give much crap about sharpness as a soft shot is better than a shot not taken.

The lense well built and takes water like a champ, although it hates sand, my focusing ring has a few grains in it and damn it's scratchy. The hood is great and so far had protected it from tons of damage ( i don't use my hood to reduce flare, but reduce hits ). Build is superb although i could use more focus ring travel. All in all, for the range it gives, it's good lense.

Can also ketuk annoying dogs with it.

i'm believing in canon that they will work more harder on what we had felt for recently...

moreover, the output is more important to impress rather than having a D700 in hand but not producing good picture...

im not being a canon fanboy...but i'm trying to appreciate what i have bought and push myself to the limit using them...

Screw Canon, i'm getting a D3 man.  (Although post Christmas work, i'll still be getting myself a 400mm 2.8L IS, just to show people i'm awesome and that taxi drivers earn more than them)

Of course this will be after i get my gig setup, drive in Toowoomba or GC....choices choices....
