Type of Residence: Double storey terrace house
Exact Location of Modem: Next to window on the second level
Location: South side of Taman Midah, Cheras
Signal: Very Strong

Download (4 am morning): 1200 kbps
Uplooad (4 am morning): 50 kbps

Got the 3.5 mbps package for RM78/month with a free modem worth around RM400, cannot complain lar - works out that if I deduct the cost of that modem, it's around RM45/month only for something equivalent to Streamyx 1 mbps RM88/month package...

Mobile internet is mainly for your primary cellphone and give it internet access, thus it will be a shared voice/data SIM issued.
Mobile broadband packages includes a dedicated data/voice modem, in which you have the option to add a phone and get a 012-XXX numbered phone line for an additional RM6/month. Also, the SIM will be auto-configured plug 'n play for data access... Mobile internet most probably governed by pay-as-you-use charge rate, i.e. per kb, but mobile broadband are all unlimited (so-called laa, with their 'fair use' policy - i.e. bandwith throttling)

Note: not recommended to get a mobile internet package and use your phone as modem, bluetooth the connection to your notebook PC. Reason being, Bluetooth and the phone's 3G/3.5G HSDPA radio connection consumes so much juice, your battery will be screaming! Also, if mobility is not the issue, get those big bulky modem - they don't drain power from your notebook PC and generally have better signal reception!

Your area in Taynton should be alright. I live in Midah... Unless you live in a terrace housing garden surrounded by condos... Signal is stable in Midah, couldn't see why it is not in Taynton. There's always an option to use and external antenna with the modem, and yes, the modem (except those USB dongle type) can be paired and shared with a wired/wireless router.

Speedtest.net yields around 2 mbps at best but mostly around 800~1500 kbps...

Maxis wireless bb depends on whether you use torrent or not, and which promotion you got. I got one before Jan'09, RM78 monthly for 3.6 mbps with modem (worth RM400), so it is quite a good deal compared to TMNet Streamyx 1 mbps (RM88/month).

Like what CrackSys mentioned...
1) No motivation to get Maxis if you already got Streamyx with a phone line. Suits more towards people who has no TM home phone lines and tavel about.
2) You can get a package from Maxis to test for speed at your home, money back for the first 7 days...

Hope this helps...

Hi to all Maxis Wireless Broadband users..

I wish to grab one of the Wireless Broadband from Maxis...But not so sure how it work.

Question:~

+ Do it posible to pair with Router?
+ Compare with Streamyx..do it worth to?
+ Compare with P1Wimax...will Maxis' Signal Stabile always?
+ What's the Download and Upload speed at the moment?do they improve?

Thanks for helps..(Cheras Area nearby Tyanton)
