Yesterday my raptor arrived and after formatting it, i installed my os onto it. But the problem is, even when windows is starting up, or even if i access the HDD in anyway, there would be a very annoying clicking sound. Being a 10000rpm drive i wouldnt expect it to be as quiet as a normal 7200rpm drive but the noise im getting isnt really a spinning sound at all.

I ran the WD tools (forgot the name) and it passed both the quick and not-quick (again, forgot the name) tests.
I ran a scandisk before sleeping (with auto fix errors) but there doesnt seem to be anything wrong.

Another thing i could perhaps mention is that for HD Tach, my seek times were quite off. doh.gif (quite high), unlike the same raptor in the database, as well as reviews.

The HDD is apparently new even though manufactured in 2006. As for the warranty status, im pretty sure its until 2011, although i havent personally verified yet online. If it is indeed my HDD dying (after 1 day doh.gif) is there any place i can RMA it locally? how do i identify whether or not it comes with local warranty? If possible, i dont wanna have to go thru the seller for RMA.

Thanks in advance.

(everything we do, we do it for MayAnne)

forgot to mention that i also tried changing the sata cable as well. doesnt solve the problem.

another thing i wanna know is about the jumper settings (which i did take a look at from the WD webby but didnt really understand).

i left it defaulted as follows:

CODE

(8 is the jumper thingy)

what happens if i just take it out like this:

actually, im not really sure of the origin of this hard disk. for example, steven_sealgal's raptors cannot be RMA-ed locally for some reason. I suspect this unit to be the same as well, though i havent really asked the seller.

Perhaps ill test the raptor on my bro's rig tonight to find out whether or not its faulty. then ill decide. BTW, do u really think its possible to RMA in 1-2 days for maxtor/seagate?

sigh, if only mayanne were here.

Added on March 27, 2008, 12:46 amhope this is not considered a double post but i really need to bump this thread up. blush.gif

i checked the serial number on the WDC website and the warranty information returned "Out of region" instead of listing out the remaining warranty period. so i assume the drive cannot be RMA-ed locally? Anyone have any experience with this? Is there anyway WD Malaysia would RMA the drive for me? sad.gif

Thanks.
