my maximus 2 formula just arrived a few days ago. still getting the cooler for it, i've got good experiences with the hdt 1283 @ red scorpion ( i have one currently cooling my e6600 @ 3Ghz). it should fit the m2f right ?
pairing it with a q9550.

not really an OC-related Q, but here goes:

If i connect my monitor USB uplink to my m2f, the board will not POST. It will stop at usbfinal. A search on the web shows that some people are having the same thing too. I connect my keyboard and mouse receivers to the monitor USB ports, hence having that USB connection is quite important. In the meantime, I'm plugging those straight to the rear ports. Some solutions say to change the USB setting from High Speed (480Mbps) to full (12Mbps). Not something I will consider. Anyone with a solution ? I've already flashed to the 1901 bios.

Thanks.

p/s: will slowly OC this baby. just finished installing everything earlier today.

okie:

Maximus II Formula (1901 BIOS)
Q9550 @ Stock (for now)
6GB DDR2 @ 1066Mhz 2.1v
2 sata hdd
dinovo edge and mx revo
dell 2408wfp

previously on my p965 system, the dinovo edge and mx revo were connected to the monitor with no issues. Since i switched to the m2f, the problem as above happens.

haven't pushed the proc (and mobo) yet, and yup it's an E0 stepping. currently doing 3.4Ghz , i.e. 8.5 x 400Mhz FSB @ 1.25v. Could probably go down summore I think.

Solved the previous problem already. Did a cmos clear and it worked.

My M2F definately is a good board, have a feeling my E0 Q9550 isn't up to par.
It plays everything nicely at 3.4Ghz (8.5 x 400) but craps out on Ghostbusters and Last Remnant. It just reboots randomly. at first I thought it was my
4870x2 heating up, but even at 100% fan speed, it still reboots randomly. Plays all other more intensive games fine though.

I've put it down to 400x8 for now, with vcore @ 1.3v and Cpu PLL at 1.606v (originally was detected as 1.69v! when on Auto).
Passes linpack v2.2 on Standard. Temps are tad high though, reaching 90c on the 5th run (on a Xiggy Red Scorpion with 775 bracket).
Will slowly decrease the vcore and PLL voltage (default should be 1.5v right ?) over the coming few nights.
RAMS are Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz 4GB and 2GB kits for a total of 6GB RAM. vDDR at 2.1v.

Any suggestions ?

Eoma, when you overclock your Q9550 to 3.4ghz, did you test for stability using Orthos/Prime? Which option did you select (SmallFFT or Blend) and how long did you run it? The E0 Q9550 should comfortable hit 4Ghz and I've easily did 3.6-3.7Ghz on my friend's machine.
*
Prime and Orthos passed the 1 hour mark, on blend I believe (cpu and ram stress right ?) Gotta check to be honest, been a while.
Using Intel burn in to test now since it takes a shorter period. I'm not interested in highest speed, as 3.2Ghz on my quadie and the 4870x2 provide enough power as it is. i just want a mild OC with stability (450x8 would be nice though tongue.gif) and least heat !, wanna drop the vcore to 1.25 as proc vId is at 1.25v.

for quad, i would suggest u use prime to test.
90c for 3.4ghz is too much? my old q9450 C1 full load at 75c only..
dont use auto voltage setting in bios, it will overvolt to a very high value.
*
Yeah, auto = very high voltages. So i'm back at 1.29v for vcore and 1.53v for CPUpll. Things are a lot cooler now. Max linpack reaches 80c highest on core1 @ 3.4Ghz.

Dude.. no point increasing CPU PLL voltage.. just keep it between 1.5~1.52V is sufficient. U should concentrate on adjusting CPU VCC/Vcore and CPU VTT/vFSB...
*
The vtt is at default 1.3v, pll at 1.53v.
Any suggestions ?

I've had it run at 450x8.5 = 3.835Ghz before @ vcore 1.35, too hot. Stopped the linkpack halfway.

The ghostbusters problem still happens though (random crashing, even at stock speeds). Maybe it doesn't like x64 or 6GB ram who knows. Any other game plays just fine (3dmark and fur bench too).
