or more likely that the powers that be decided that they wanted to screw the team when other teams also does it blantantly?

No, other teams do not cheat blatantly, they always leave some wiggle room. Hamster on the other hand told FIA officials that he did not let Trulli pass, which contradicts his radio transmissions where he said he let Trulli pass. No wiggle room there. Stop trying to defend the indefensible.

I suppose the punishment is fair for unsporting behavior in Australia.

"That penalty is a suspension of the team from three races of the FIA Formula One World Championship. This will only be applied if further facts emerge regarding the case or if, in the next 12 months, there is a further breach by the team of article 151c of the International Sporting Code."

Suspended. Unles there is something else with the case (which I doubt) or the team did it again, they will be able to race without fear this season

Nah, most of the other team also would have suffered the same fate IF the stewards had decided to pursue it further. Schumacher's Monaco antic in 2006 was a good reference, as with this case, the whole team including Schumacher said that the reason he (Schumacher) stopped at the exit of Rascasse during qualy was because the car had problem when in fact the telemetry showed that the car was fine. The fact that the stewards DID NOT pursue the issue further after giving a penalty (McLaren was given a penalty AND a hearing) shows how two similar incidents with two different conclusions.

He lied, yes, but the fact that the FIA showed double standards is also quite glaring.

Ron Dennis was reportedly snubbed by Lewis Hamilton when the McLaren driver rejected a request to pay tribute to the man who had mentored him for many years at Thursday's Sport Industry Awards.

Dennis, who was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his 40-year service to motorsport, spoke glowingly of McLaren after leaving the two just two weeks prior to receiving the award.

"As far as McLaren is concerned, the word 'team' hardly suffices - I prefer the term 'family'," he said.

However, no one for the McLaren 'family' was present to honour Dennis with only two past McLaren drivers, Mika Hakkinen and Alain Prost, on hand.

And, according to the Daily Mail it wasn't for tying as 'Hamilton turned down repeated requests to attend the function at the Battersea Evolution or even send a short tribute to his former team boss.'

Added to that 'McLaren did not send a single representative to Dennis's big night and the McLaren table printed on the guest list was withdrawn at the last minute with none of the 10 reserved places filled.'

Asked for comment by the Daily Mail, McLaren had little to say except for that it was "all very political" and added that 'the request for a comment from Hamilton came too late'.

More likely a sensational story by a British paper than the real truth. They are still under probation thus I think they decided that it might infuriate uncle Max if they went there

Hamilton concedes: F1 title defence is all but over

Lewis Hamilton has conceded that his hopes of successfully defending his hard-fought Formula 1 Drivers' World Championship crown are now all-but over, after a mistake in qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix at the weekend destroyed arguably his best chance of the season so far to shine.

The McLaren-Mercedes star has notched up just nine points to-date this year, as his MP4-24 has proven to be aerodynamically inefficient and particularly off the pace at high-speed circuits. Though that may have limited Hamilton to a lowly and lapped ninth spot at the chequered flag in Barcelona just over a fortnight ago, hopes for Monaco – around the narrow and tortuous streets where he had so famously triumphed only twelve months earlier – were somewhat higher.

Having been a mainstay inside the top three throughout Thursday practice, the 24-year-old headed into qualifying with a spring in his step and the smile back on his face – and aiming for a top five grid slot at the very least. That was until he lost control with eight minutes remaining in Q1, clouting the barriers at Mirabeau and breaking his car's rear suspension, with a subsequent gearbox change relegating him to the very back of the grid for race day and consigning him to a thankless task in the grand prix around a track where overtaking is virtually outlawed.

Now 42 points adrift of world championship-leading Brawn GP compatriot Jenson Button in the title standings with eleven races remaining, Hamilton knows the odds are almost impossibly stacked against him – and he fears a return to Spanish Grand Prix form for the upcoming outings in Turkey and on home turf at Silverstone, high-speed circuits both and therefore likely to expose the MP4-24's inherent weaknesses.

The Stevenage-born ace stormed to one of his most popular and spellbinding victories in the sodden British Grand Prix last year – imperiously taking the chequered flag more than a minute ahead of his nearest pursuer in torrential conditions – but he is slowly coming around to the acceptance, it seems, that the 2009 season is one to endure, rather than to enjoy.

“It's very tough,” reflected the nine-time grand prix-winner, speaking to the Daily Telegraph, “but we all go through it. All world champions go through tough times, and that's what we're going through. I doubt very much whether I can fight for the championship now, but I'll keep pushing and we'll see what happens.

“I won't give up. I'm ready to fight another day in Turkey because bit-by-bit we are getting better, but we're just not as quick as the Brawns. Jenson and the Brawn team are doing a fantastic job this year. Clearly he is in the best position to win the championship, and all the best to him. I'd definitely put my money on him.

“[Monaco] was just Monaco – don't get your hopes up [for Istanbul]. When we get to Turkey it will be an even tougher race because it's all high-speed corners, and we don't have a good car for those. It will be a similar finish to Barcelona, but we will push to get as high as possible. I just hope my car improves and then we can start challenging for wins or some good points.”

The big difference here is McLaren and Hamilton were caught blatantly cheating. I may be a huge Schuey fan, but I do not for once believe that he didn't deliberately park his car at Monaco. Besides, his lie was backed up by his team, whereas in McLaren's case new evidence contradicting their initial statements cropped up, along with strong protests from Toyota. Also, stop twisting facts. The story put forth by Schuey and Ferrari was that he made a mistake (which was true, I do remember him locking up and running wide) but he then instantly tried to squeeze an advantage out of it by maneuvering his car into an inconvenient position.
