For this kind of shot, you need to get most of the area in focus, as sharp as possible. So (1) you shall use a faster shutter speed, not 2 sec. (2) Get the +4 close up filter off your lens. It will only cause vignetting and throwing most area except the center out of focus. (3) Make use of your only flash and bounce it with your reflector.
Check this out and take note of the setting used.
http://www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=650540You may not have those equipment but I'm sure you can do something better than this.
1) i cant use a faster shutter speed. coz i do not have the flash trigger. 2 secs exposure time, so that i can flash during the exposure MANUALLY. If i were that stupid to use 2 secs... you wouldnt be seeing any thing in this picture. That is why i said i dun have the right tools. 2 secs wasnt really 2 secs, i prefocused, and flashed it in a darkroom, so that no light is exposed to the camera sensor before and after i flashed.
2) FYI, i added the vignetting myself.. LoL. it's just kind of my likings. I do not have a macro lens... that is why i tried using the close up filter to have a bigger picture of the bubbles.
3) Yes i do bounce my flash. The thing is... i used a biscuit container which is so small(and it reflects light no matter what angle i used to bounce), instead of an aquarium which will be better.
My own opinion, i do not think this photo is good, but it's out from the box. i will do it again when i find good big reflectors, a bigger water transparent container, and a flash trigger. I posted it up here just to see what do you guys think of this attempt. Anyway, thank you for you comments.
