dust can contribute to the noise as well... cos i had 2 consoles.. premium and elite...
premium made noise after a few months cos of dust... elite was really silent at first but now a bit noisy.. playing cod 4 is the noisiest as it runs on a high frame rate.. no big deal.. just pump teh volume whn u play... otherwise, spray WD40 in ur disk tray... proven damn quiet... rattling noise? my benq has a whirring noise, not sure if it's the same or not but i think it's normal. as long as it doesnt scratch ur discs, the drive should be fine. i did ask djinn a few days after i bought my elite (in october) about the noise, he told me his elite unit has the same noise.

My previous 360 wasn't even modded and it was bloody noisy. Eventually it got 3ROD-ed.

i think it depends on the game disc...some of it will make the drive bit noise...
