Hi again, another problem biggrin.gif I'm currently using a HDMI to DVI cable, all works well just that the resolutions is not what I expected. My monitors native resolution is 1680 x 1050. I read in the Xbox buyers guide and it says that HDMI to VGA cable have 1680 x 1050. Isn't it suppose to be the same for HDMI to DVI? Anyway the resolutions that is avaible is from 640x480 till 1360x768 then it jumps to 1920x1080. Any solutions to this? Thanks.

Nop , not until MS enable this resolution .

The options is

1280x720 , 720p
1920x1080 , 1080p

and the weird resolution , 1366x768 . No option for 1680x1050 yet .

Use 1280x1024 wide, and then choose stretch on your monitor imo. That's what I use, for me it's the best ;o

Like I said , the resolution still need to be enabled by the console . The 360 just doesn't support 1680x1050 , that simple .

BTW , stretch 1280x1024 really that nice ? blink.gif

i tried the stretch 1280x1024, and i think the 1360x768 is much better.
could clearly see the difference while playing halo 3.
i like the 1360x768 is alot more.
personal preference.
ahh microsoft enable the blardee reso!

Well, 12x10 is 25% more pixels than 13x7, so technically you get a sharper image. Doesn't really make that much diff anyway doh.gif

But 1280*1024 is 5:4, while 1360*768 is about 16:9, so if you are using a widescreen monitor in "fit" mode, 16:9 one will definitely look better coz 5:4 may look out of shape.

That's why you stretch it ... it's 5:4 but designed for a widescreen resolution so if you stretch to fit the entire screen the ratio comes out correct.

Huh ? No , 5:4 doesn't look the same with native 16:9 when stretched .

Ok , lets do a comparison with some screenshots . It isn't 100% accurate but this is how it works I guessed ...

Native 16:10

Stretched 5:4

Doesn't looks that good ? Noticed that all the details from native 5:4 is fitted into it , but the stretched version isnt that nice . And bear in mind too all 360 games is developed widescreen natively , so converting it back to 5:4 and stretched it again isn't a good idea .

Brumak screenshot courtesy of Foxngn grabbed here and Crysis screen is mine .

Omg crysis. I want to play sooo bad.

If using dvi for monitor, does the monitor need HDCP? Ignore Dvi-A = VGA

for PS3 you need but not sure about Xbox.

Nope , 360 doesn't require HDCP . PS3 needs because HDCP is a requirement for HDMI .

It does.

When you choose a 5:4 pixel resolution, you can also choose a "standard" ratio or a "widescreen" ratio. Example, first screen is 13x7 stretched:

Next, this is 12x10 which is a 5:4, but in a widescreen ratio, shown at aspect, note that the pixel ratio is proper 5:4 but then it's "squashed":

Finally you see 12x10 widescreen stretch:

Comparing 1st & 3rd images, the ratio / picture is practically the same. Of course, even though the 3rd image technically has 25% more pixels, in practice it's honestly not noticeable at all. biggrin.gif

(forgive the noise and weird angle, I'm using camera phone not digicam)

This is how it looks like on my monitor , though its not that apparent in the picture , it really looks stretched and ugly in real .

user posted image

Maybe your monitor got better scaling but I wanna vomit when playing in 5:4 stretched .sweat.gif

Hard to tell without giving a comparison screenshot, but you gotta make sure you set it to widescreen

i.e. there's

1280x1024
Standard

1280x1024
Widescreen

2nd one is the one you need for widescreen monitor

Anyway not like it matters, lol ... we all choose what res we find most comfortable, good enough right? biggrin.gif

Now I understand it ... 1280x1024 set in widescreen format means the resolution is being cropped to fit 16:9 , that's why you don't see it stretched . This is exactly 720p lol .
