QUOTE(Maniac @ Mar 16 2008, 08:15 PM) hanafinoor, matt2001, and datto: nice pictures you got there. I think throughout the entire outing, the most valuable catch is to get to know various ways to compose a shot. 14 forumers joined this outing, 14 distinctly different composition and style. at times when I browse through our photos, I kindda have this question popped in my mind: "wow, such an ordinary subject could bring impact to a picture" |

QUOTE(hanafinoor @ Mar 16 2008, 11:11 PM) shooting at eye level means normal posture while shooting... stand still, hold ur cam to your eyes, snap. If shoot below eye level means at times you have to lie down, squat, or roll over (woof woof~!!) while you compose your shot. For me I prefer going down and dirty as it brings bigger impact from a ultra wide-angle lens. |

If shoot below eye level means at times you have to lie down, squat, or roll over (woof woof~!!) while you compose your shot. For me I prefer going down and dirty as it brings bigger impact from a ultra wide-angle lens. eye-level means our generally accepted eye-level of human la, which is around 150 - 180cm from the ground i believe.shots from this angle looks common and quite often, uninteresting. you know la, the usual tourist style photography. which is why if you want, squad. kneel. or step up some platform and shoot. and it's not just for ultra-wide angle but for many type of shots. just sharing, cos i read about this from some magazine awhile back and when i put to practise, it does look nicer. i met some pro-photog from sg, he also told me the same thing - go low! (well that was shooting paintball la). aihh sorry la. comment banyak but nothing to show yet. hehe. here's a pic i took almost lying on the floor (with quite a number of dried bird shit) ![]() *i think that's asrolsani in the background. the idea of this shot is to snap another photographer in action. |

More info here: To take slow shutter pics during daylight, you'll need something called ND filter (basically it's like sun glasses for your camera). What it does is it cuts the amount of light so you can use slow shutter speeds. I don't have one so didn't attempt it coz I sorta know the result convicted_knight: I like #4 and #8. Hehe, I wanted to shoot the man with the mask too but did not shoot in the end coz didn't plan to buy that mask from him Ebernie, nice color series. Perhaps next time when I go shoot, I should aim for some themes.... like people at work, building or nice colors. Yes, having a theme helps but remember not to let it dominate too much as well. Sometimes, unplanned outings can go well too. To be frank, I had the notion of shooting colors only after I got there since the place is has a good mix of colors (sign boards and buildings being the obvious ones).Ebernie, nice color series. QUOTE(ebernie @ Mar 17 2008, 11:18 AM) Thanks. Yes, having a theme helps but remember not to let it dominate too much as well. Sometimes, unplanned outings can go well too. To be frank, I had the notion of shooting colors only after I got there since the place is has a good mix of colors (sign boards and buildings being the obvious ones). Did you crop your pictures? Or are they directly from the camera? |

Okay, my turn now.
All of your shots are really nice. Artistic, I should say. Mine... I think they're very much just snap shots... Anyway, out of the 60 something photos I took (I thought I took 100+!) I only like these 14. Here's my first set. #1 Chow Kit Monorail station at 8am. ![]() #2 Another shot of the Chow Kit Monorail Station. ![]() #3 Some of my newly made pro photographer friends, getting ready to shoot for the day. ![]() L-R: Matt, Valho, HornetEJ #4 Homeless. ![]() #5 Fruit seller with an eye catching fruit stall. ![]() #6 Lost your keys? You might find it here. ![]() #7 Parking at an abandoned building? ![]() #8 EON Bank Building and ebernie ![]() #9 Caught Valho in action ![]() #10 Eon Bank building. Funny how I thought this looks like a scene from a Batman movie. ![]() I know I am breaking the rules of photojournalism (as far as my photojournalism lecturer is concerned, that is. I didn't know there's such a rule.) by showing y'all 2 different images of the same subject. I just want to show y'all and maybe tell me which is better. I'm not allowed to post more photos. QUOTE(goldfries @ Mar 17 2008, 03:26 AM) hehe. refer to what yrh0413 mentioned........ my turn.... u can see here... goldfries, myjunk etc in action eye-level means our generally accepted eye-level of human la, which is around 150 - 180cm from the ground i believe. shots from this angle looks common and quite often, uninteresting. you know la, the usual tourist style photography. which is why if you want, squad. kneel. or step up some platform and shoot. and it's not just for ultra-wide angle but for many type of shots. just sharing, cos i read about this from some magazine awhile back and when i put to practise, it does look nicer. i met some pro-photog from sg, he also told me the same thing - go low! |

Thanks for the tip goldfries. Guys when I first bougt the sonyalpha, on mid feb, I was struggling to understand the manual given, but after going out with you guys now 3/4 at least being absorbed 70-80% to my head.
I am still not sure how to resize - I am using photoshop cs3 - converting raw - unsharp mask - reduce noice - leveling - masking...maybe during my class (the oldest in my class) I ponteng during sizing lesson. I dont use the sony software. Hey great pic you all have there - inspire me to learn alot even from 7 yo matt2001. matt i checked your flicker - the danga bay - my parents (my kampung) live a walking distance from there. Reminded me about long zoom lens (sometimes you see only opportunity in far away but blinded with those close to you - just like the long zoom range lens esp 70-300 or above) - only my philosophy. Very nice photos lah in the danga bay you shoot. Convicted knight - your latter latter batch of photos getting better and better - wow. Cutielynette also has great pics there.
