ermmm. i need some help here. i'm really sorry if it has been posted before but i'm really new in this field.

i just got a vostro 1700 and it comes with a 8600m gt.
i'm trying to update the driver because vista is saying that my driver is making the system unstable.but i can't seem to find any new driver for it.

i downloaded the newest driver from nvidia's web page but it can;t be installed.

i think i'm using a driver that was release on 2nd February 2008.

can anyone please help with this problem. the gc is performing quite ok considering that it plays GRID on highest setting but it is not stable. not during game play but sometimes it hangs during boot-up.

thank you for the help.

installed Forceware 177.79 on my lappy and the gc just love it.

GRID is running much smoother but i notice that my 3dmark06 marks are way down compared to when previously i was using the 175.41.

don't know why??

anybody knows why??

done some house keeping and my 3d mark06 scores are up by 400. from 3024 now it is at 3478.

the 177.79 is a stable driver but it makes the gc a little hot. my current tempreature is at 45 degrees C. but that is with a large industrial fan keeping it cool down.
i haven't oc it yet.

if i were to use it without any external cooling sources(fans, aircond) the system will get really hot.

cooler pads are also useless.

hilmiangah, i notice that you have increase the clock, memory and shader speed.

i was just wondering, did you manually set the speeds or did you link the clock and shader speed together then tweak the memory speed. i can't get good results if i tweak my memory speed.

what is the normal operation temperature for the 8600m gt?

currently i'm getting a reading of a minimum of 49 to 61 degrees maxs.

i'm using a 8600m gt.

i'm a newbie. sorry for the questions.

edited for grammar.

i'm currently using forceware 177.79 beta. funny thing is riva tuner detects it as forceware 177.72.

it is oc able and quite stable.

thanks to hilmiangah's tip on seting the memory clock manualy i was able to get 6900++ on 3dmark05.

yup. but i notice that the heat sink on my laptop emits a creaking sound when i'[m really pushing it. considering that the laptop is made from plastic and an alloy it was quite frightening.

to solve this problem i'm trying to rig aq cooling hose from my aircond directly to the cooler intake fan to help with the cooling.

loaded temperature is around 65 degrees. that is in an air conditioned room.

under normal situation unloaded an unclock the temperature reading is around 56 degrees.

does anyone have the working temperature on nvidia's graphic cards?

i would really like to know the working temperature of this card. some say at 80 degress it is still acceptable but judging from the heat that emits from the cooling vent i don;t think it is really advisable to let the heat reach that high.

95 degrees shocking.gif

abit more then can cook water.

better see what is wrong with your air flow management in your cpu.

maybe the air flow is not efficient enough to get the heat out from the casing. u can try opening the side panel and put a table fan to see if it makes any different.

aftermartket cooling kits are advisable and easy to install but try to isolate where the problem is coming from first and from there.

177.98 driver no increase in performance for me.

177.92 driver much better. without oc can get 60xx in 3dmark05. the numbers are not stable. don't know why. first time ran 3dmark 05 the score was 6006. second time without any modification to the setting the score was 6058.
