If you have expressed your interest on this item some where and he saw it and decided to approach you, I think it's fine.

If it's just like out-of-the-blue someone just send you a PM - " hey, visit my website at http://www.goldfries.com " or something like that (ie promoting site, products, whatever.....) then it would be PM spam.

It's all about the intention of the PM.

He could have accidentally sent the PM to the wrong person, which is not you.

True. But as some had mentioned above, if he repeatedly sent it again, then its definitely a PM spam with the obvious intention of annoying promotion.

Yes, quite true. But quite sure sending once is more than enough if just hoping to catch someone attention.

I have sent pm to wrong person before. It usually happens when i open a few members profile and sent few pm.

If he meant it as spam, I'm sure he would have sent it to others as well, so we'll just have to wait to see if other forummers get the same PM.

Im sure database have record of the PMs he sent..
The details of the PMs, not the content.

Mods can easily findout whether that guy did a mass PM or it was just an accident sent to wrong recipient.
