Hi guys,

New Perdana V6 owner & a new driver here smile.gif

1. I have a few questions. How much is the amount of engine needed for the engine? 4L or 5L? Some say 4L, some say 5, and some say whatever, unless its below the top mark and above the min mark on the dipstick (difference between min and max on the dipstick is kinda huge, I am kinda like... sweat.gif ). Since the manual for the car is missing since I got it, I have no idea. Need to change oil soon. Pls help.

2. I never drove a brand new PV6 before,so cant compare. is it normal if the GB shift is a bit harsh when gearing down/up (especially down)? And I notice that when I change from N to D, got a bit delay before the gear is in, and theres a little bit of 'kick'. Let say if i hit the gas a bit when changing N to D..the GB will kick the car forward. I duno whether it's normal, or the GB start getting faulty, or using wrong type of ATF.. icon_question.gif

3. Can I do any servicing at any workshops I can find on the street(oil change, GB oil change, generic engine stuff), since I honestly have no idea regarding this. As long as its not a motorcycle shop, its fine right? laugh.gif BTW I live near Bandar Baru Ampang, so if u sifus have any workshops u guys wana recommend, pls PM me. Thanks so much.

1. 4L will suffice for me unless you go racing with it and cornering with high Gs.

2. Your GB is showing signs of failure, but before you go out and look for a replacement, try to do a gearbox flush, change the ATF filter and put in fresh genuine Proton ATF and see if it's better.

3. You don't have a workshop that you normally frequent? What about your friends? Oil change (engine/GB) is pretty straightforward but at least get your own genuine parts before you go there. If you are not sure where to get genuine parts, you can go to C K Wong Auto Supply Sdn Bhd at Segambut or Inspire Auto Parts Sdn Bhd at Batu Caves.

I see. Thanks so much for the information. Well actually, for no.3.. this is my 1st car, so u know la..still got tons of things to learn, climbing from the bottom sweat.gif ..I'll ask around for any good workshops near me. Thanks again icon_rolleyes.gif

For no.2, yeah my brother thinks the same thing. Luckily I'm not a heavy footer like him. I'll try to do a flush+drain+refill with new ATF, see how it works from there..

For No.1, rclxm9.gif

i drive speed is 80 - 110km/h

i also wondering why ?

how about urs?
*
Your FC is kinda high. Mine from full tank to exactly half is around 250-300km (300km if I only use for work, daily hiway commute with no jam, 80-100kmh). Never tried finishing all my fuel to see total mileage for full tank.

Theres a lot of factors. Better get ur car checked 1st.

Hi guys, a few doubts I have brows.gif

1. Can we use bigger alternator amps for the car? for example, 100A..u duno the current alternator's amperage tho..any thoughts?

2. Any improvements in GB smoothness if we use 3rd party fully syn ATF oil? (Amsoil for example).

3. Can we retune/remap the stock ECU or add piggyback for better performance/efficiency?

4. Any recommendation for good aftermarket shocks? Now I'm using TEIN Hi/Lo adjustable. Although its rili nice for high speed n cornering, it gives a harsh n noisy ride in general. Need a softer shocks, but better than stock one. Now thinking about Sachs, Sapura ProRide and Maddriver's shocks. Duno if got any more brands..

Hello sifus, its been a while since I posted here smile.gif ..Wanna ask regarding my GB. I noticed now that when I accelerate (hard press on the pedal) and suddenly brake until near stop (usually before traffic light), I can feel the gearbox kick. It's really noticeable thump, like something is released from getting stuck. Whatta heck is that? blink.gif . Usually happens during high RPMs then brake.

it is more noticeable on older gboxes and gbox that are not serviced for a while and also on gbox that the ATF level is low.
maybe bcoz the ATF quality have deteriorated and the ATF filter is not filtering well.
try changing ur ATF and ATF filter.
*
I thought so as well. So the last service interval a few months back, I changed oil+filter+added lubeguard red. The effect lessens after a couple of weeks of driving. And it came back after 10k km. Maybe ure right, the oil is deteorating, but during 10k km its kinda fast cry.gif ..I think I'll try using fully syn oil on next filter change and see how it goes.

Oil level is fine, checked when engine is running.

Sifus, one question;

If the wiper interval setting dont work (runs continously instead of wipe-stop-wipe-stop), what seems to be the problem? Is it the motor or the wiper stick at the steering? different workshops have different advice so i dunno what to check and replace.

sorry bro. haven't encountered the problem before.
have u found the problem and settled it?
*
Not yet apparently. I went to check for the wiper parts, and they are kinda pricey. The control stick costs RM400 and wiper motor is 270.

For now I'm focused on other maintenance 1st. Now it seems like the wheel bearing is making some noise already. Checked with the mechanic but he is unsure. He wanted me not to change yet.

I had some oil and water leaks coming from the timing belt area, and just had the timing belt set and water pump replaced again. The last set was just clocking around 22k km *sigh* . Might be bad workmanship. MEchanic said valve cover also leaking some oil, but not too serious to cause trouble. So I just have the engine bay washed and started inspecting leaks now.

Hi guys, one full tank around RM120 how many km you guys can travel ? City driving.
*
For me, mixed city+ hiway driving will get me 500-600km from full tank to empty. Very seldom to go below 500km even on city drive alone. This engine dont have VVT so dont drive too slow in expectation for lower consumption. 90-130km/h is fine (for me at least).

Hey guys and proud v6 owners,

Just want to share some useful info I found on the internet to take good care of our beloved baby.

[attachmentid=5213652]
Apparently even experts promote the usage of Lubegard products.

Also another link which I think can be useful info for us all :

*
Thanks for the Lubegard recommendation. Just poured in Lubegard Red on my last GB oil change last week. Still yet to see the GB doctor though, as I am pretty busy with work. So far so good smile.gif

I took the car last wednesday, previously owned by spanco. Manufactured 2009 and register in 2010. I pump RON97 from almost empty to full RM120, only managed to reach almost 400km. Yesterday travel from Temerloh shell to Terengganu used up half tank.
*
My last fuel fill up was last Sunday, just after my periodic servicing. And my fuel mileage is recorded at 609.9km (used Shell 95). I cant say ur engine is faulty or whatnot, just do a routine checkup, or replace anything that is overdue (plugs, filters, injector cleaning etc).

My car was 2001 made btw.

Hi. Can anyone recommend me a trusted workshop around KL that can do total refurbishment on a 2005 perdana v6? this car has a few leaks underneath, dents and scratches on the body. would like to repair all and new paints.
*
What leaks? oil? water coming into cabin?
For bodyworks, I dont have any specific shop, just send anywhere with reasonable price.

Hi sifus,
I just replaced my Tein coilovers to standard setups. One set of unknown brand coils and apm gas shocks. The first thing I noticed is the height. Its so much higher than even normal v6, which makes me wonder if the spring is the right one.

Then another thing is during driving on to speedbumps, esp. at high speed. The spring/absorber bounces back so hard it sounded like its punching back, which is scary. I dont have any experience driving stock suspensions since I bought the car with coilovers in them.

Do I use the wrong spring? or the absorber is still very new they need some run-in before they get softer?
