most likely yours is ntfs.. goto disk utilities to 'erase' your external HD.. first , select your HD.. then select the ms-dos file system.. and click erase.. now your HD will be usable on both windows and mac...

yea..

should be NTFS. For NTFS, you need to use 3rd party app, such as ntfs-3g. By default, mac osx only read NTFS, but can't write wink.gif

i would suggest using ntfs-3g software if you like to use your external HDD on both windows and apple. however the only drawback from ntfs-3g is that you can't use it to back up your files using time machine.

To use NTFS-3g u just need to dl and install these 2 files onto your apple and it should work.
1) MacFUSE - http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
2) NTFS-3G - http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/

hope this helps.

They're pretty much the same if you're using the same operating systems. Install the softwares mentioned and you should be able to use your External HDD.

it's straight forward. plug and play.
do you need to copy the OS as well? if you want to, you need to have a startup CD.
