Mitsubishi to Release Blu-ray Recorders w/ Touch Screen Remote Controller
Mar 21, 2008 18:57
Megumi Yoshizawa, Nikkei Electronics
Mitsubishi's new "REAL Blu-ray" recorders

Mitsubishi Electric Corp has announced two models from its new "REAL Blu-ray" Blu-ray Disc recorder series. The two models are the "DVR-BZ200" with a 500-Gbyte HDD and the "DVR-BZ100" with a 250-Gbyte HDD. These are Mitsubishi's first Blu-ray recorders.

For easy playback, recording and other operations, Mitsubishi incorporated its new "REALINK" capability compatible with its "REAL" LCD TVs in the recorders. In addition to a standard remote controller, the Blu-ray recorders come up with another remote controller equipped with a touch screen LCD panel. To realize even easier operations, this controller displays necessary buttons on the LCD panel in accordance with the option chosen by the user.

Both models feature two tuners for each of terrestrial digital, BS digital and 110-degree CS digital broadcasts, so they can simultaneously record two digital broadcast programs in high definition (HD) mode. A terrestrial analog tuner is housed as well.

MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 image compression technology has been employed for HD video recording. This technology allows significant recording times. Applying AVCREC function, which uses the same compression technology, for recording onto external media, they can record videos on DVD without degrading the HD quality. They can also record AVCREC format videos stored in SD cards on the HDD and replay them, Mitsubishi said.

The company will make these recorders support Japan's "Dubbing 10" copy regulation system through a version-up using broadcasting radio, it said.

There is no MSRP. The company is planning a monthly output of 3,500 units for each model. Their market debut is slated for May 24, 2008.

Alternatively, you can consider HP 2408 LCD monitor, comes with HDMI and it has 92% NTSC colour gamut and a 16.7 million colour panel. Price is around RM1800 plus.

Added on March 25, 2008, 11:34 pmBill it at it once again, and he has posted some inside information regarding upcoming Disney Blu-ray titles over at The Digital Bits. In addition to the previously announced upcoming Blu-ray titles, including 'Gangs of New York' that was announced yesterday, Disney is planning to bring both 'Nixon: Election Year Edition' and 'Good Will Hunting' to Blu-ray later this year.

For 2009, the company is currently planning 'Kill Bill 1 & 2' and 'Finding Nemo' for Blu-ray release. 'Kill Bill' will likely not be presented as "The Whole Bloody Affair", a version of the film that director Quentin Tarantino has discussed on many occasions as the uninterrupted cut of 'Kill Bill'. That version of the film will most likely have to be released theatrically first, of which there are currently no plans to do so.

You will also notice that the once "Spring 2008" and "Fall 2008" title 'Finding Nemo' has been bumped to 2009. While this is thoroughly disappointing to most fans, Disney will be releasing another Pixar catalog title along with the Blu-ray release of 'WALL-E' this Fall, which is to be released theatrically June 27th.

All these titles should be considered rumors until official dates are released by the studio.

3 for 2 on 129 Blu-ray Titles at Amazon.co.uk

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/re...ag=bluraycom-21

Please note:

1. All price in British Pound, £. Current exchange rate is 6.4094.
1. The price listed includes VAT (value added tax), which is charged on goods sold by Amazon.co.uk within the European Union (EU) only. Your actual price will actually be 17.5% cheaper. thumbup.gif
2. Do check for disc regional codes first. EU blu-ray titles should be Region B, but there are some that is Region ABC (Region Free). Most Warner titles currently are ABC, while Fox titles most likely to be Region B only. Check the region codes here: http://bluray.liesinc.net/index.php?region=b

Suggestions:

Choose titles that are only available at Amazon UK only, like The Island, Welcome to the Jungle (a.k.a. The Rundown), Face/Off & Starship Troopers. Others you can probably get cheaper at Amazon US.

Shipping cost:

Standard Airmail
Per Shipment £2.09
Per title £1.49

Priority Express
Per Shipment £18.99
Per title £2.49

Offer ends at 23:59 on 6 April 2008. Using standard airmail, you'll only pay around RM80 per title in one 3 title shipment.

Why so many transits? Why origin in Florida?

My shipment always originated from Oklahoma or Kentucky, then departs straight from Ohio to KL. Always in my hand on the third day. thumbup.gif

Nobody wants the Play-Asia coupon? Strange, US$10 for free, nobody wants. The world suddenly changed? hmm.gif
