The grain in Black Hawk Down is acceptable for me. Picture & audio quality is 4 stars. thumbup.gif

Haven't seen 300, so I don't know how does it compare.

I'm so can't wait for my I, Robot to arrive. This title is the new reference disc for picture & audio quality.

Added on March 17, 2008, 7:54 amA Hollywood insider at Blu-ray.com, Penton-Man has just confirmed today that our PS3 will get DTS-HD Master Audio through a future firmware update. rclxms.gif

He has been reporting early news breaks since the website existed, and never proven wrong before.

QUOTE(Penton-Man)

...

I will tell you though that it is a certainty that the PS3 will get DTS HD MA.
Well, let me rephrase as the only certainties in life are death and taxes.

I say you can pretty much hang your hat on getting the above with a future firmware upgrade for the Playstation 3.

I've asked Penton-Man at Blu-ray.com on when the update for DTS-HD MA will be, he confirmed that we won't get it through the next update. Guess we'll have to wait quite a while longer. sad.gif

QUOTE(aiman04)
Thanks Penton. Can't tell you how glad I am to read that.

Any idea on ETA? When you say future firmware upgrade, is it as in the next update? Or 2009?

QUOTE(Penton-Man)
No, I honestly don't know *when*.
Except.......I do know that it will not be on the next firmware upgrade.

QUOTE(aiman04)
Thanks Penton. You

It's all good then. Just need to wait a little bit. :coffee:

Apis, in terms of signal quality, all HDMI cables are the same, because the signal is digital (i.e. the binary 010101 will always be 010101). biggrin.gif

Unlike analogue that uses electrical signal, it will be affected by bad material that made up the cable. And that's why your electrical electrical source also needs to be clean to get the best performance for your AV system.

The expensive HDMI cables only provide better insulation, stronger material, so it will lasts longer. It looks nicer too. But the signal quality is the same as cheap ones. tongue.gif

PS: Apis, tomorrow same time & place can? brows.gif

Nope. Let's give him some time to arrange things. His friend is only touching down today. Give her some rest from the long flight. I know I need at least 24 hrs to recover.

QUOTE(htkaki @ Mar 17 2008, 05:34 PM)
sweat.gif  Luckily, I made the right choice.
Spot on. There are shops in SS2 that claimed the same whereby the cover is printed with BD logo. I seriously doubt it as Unc Ho has not make in-road to the BD's 'firewall'  tongue.gif
*
Not necessarily. I've tried converting an 8 GB, 1080p MKV file into a DVD9 as a DVD-Video format, the quality is much better than original DVDs (at least in my case). Though details are lost (because of being downgraded of 480p), the vibrant colors, deep blacks and depth are fantastic! And maybe a little bit sharper picture too. thumbup.gif

I suspect what they did was rip the movie, menus, subtitles & features off a blu-ray and reconstruct them into a DVD9. That's why the quality is somewhat better than the original DVDs.

Anyway, the idea of a exact replica of the original DVDs can't be ruled out either. wink.gif

LOL, a proper ori DVD (or a fake dvd9 straight copy) will get you that quality (don't need to rip from Blu-ray), it's just that we are getting re-compressed mpeg dvd5s (with dvd9) sticker...
*
I have burned a 1080p MKV file into DVD format, the quality is much better than original dual-layer DVD. Try it, use a wonderful small program called ConvertXtoDVD.

Even though it's practically downscaled to 480p DVD format, the clean source that was prepped for blu-ray makes the difference.

I don't do that anymore since I have the PS3, and blank DVD9s are quite expensive. tongue.gif

And about that DVD9 sticker, there are some that really is. You just need to know where to look, and they're usually more expensive. Of course, the only way to confirm is by inserting iinto your laptop DVD drive and see the properties. wink.gif

Apis' doing you a favor, when it's ready you'll get it. You're getting free shipment, be patience. You can wait 4 weeks for standard shipping that costs you more, sure you can wait few days for this.

As for the DVD, yes, you can even get DTS if your source MKV has that audio track. Google for the ConvertXtoDVD for more info.

Bro Aiman,

Any updates on our BD order?  drool.gif
*
Our order has shipped. Only one package for the whole 26 BDs using our favorite DHL. thumbup.gif

I think that's good because usually the split to 2 package, with both package declaring the same total value, which sucks because you might get taxed twice when one package carried by DHL and the other by UPS.

I'll PM everyone for the tracking number so that you can track by yourself. Usually if they ship Monday morning, it will arrive on Thursday. But because of public holiday, I guess it will be Friday.

Now let's pray everything goes smoothly. sweat.gif

That's what happened to my bulk order too. Suddenly it says shipping estimate 2 weeks delayed because some titles out of stock.

But now my order already shipped this morning, the titles suddenly available again. Worry not, it's possible that you'll get yours earlier then expected.

sigh...still no sign of DTS-MA sad.gif

A Hollywood insider, Penton-Man at Blu-ray.com has confirmed to me early this week that we won't get it in this update.

But he says that it is in the works and it is a certainty PS3 will be capable of decoding DTS-HD MA someday. Just not in this update. wink.gif

I think they'll wait until the new standalone players with internal DTS-HD MA decoding to be released in the market first, like the Panny BD50 and Sony 550.

to tell the truth, I don't care for BD-Live. Still, good news for disc resume and > 2GB DiVX playability. thumbup.gif
