If you come to KL,

I will recommend you the YGK JigMan X4 jigging line...fairly cheap...

RM100 for 300meter....300METER~!! smile.gif

Widely used worldwide and very reputable brand

Added on April 2, 2008, 4:21 pmBTW, bro Fookie

Braided line got thick and thin and shapes and such...

try to get those rounder and thinner ones... smile.gif

Those flat type not suitable for casting and bottom, as it will have more resistant to leave the spool and resistance to the sea current

erm.. wont the toman dominate the whole pond?? i heard from my friend if one of the pond has toman, mostly they'll dominate the pond there..which means eat all the other fishes there..

*ps* i'm going to a spot where an uncle claims theres alot of siakap there..
so we're going to be the mythbusters..lol..
whats the best way to fish siakap??
the place is located at the edge of the paya bakau.
any sifu mind teaching?

Bro Fookie,

Looking at logics, you are definitely right. BUT looking at the broader picture, the food chain is undisturbed smile.gif

These fishies is not going to sit there and waiting to be eaten. It's the nature that these fishes will hide and escape smile.gif

Big and ferocious fishes will also get starved smile.gif

morning all

bro fookie,
for siakap hunt, be it you use lure or prawn, try to have direct tie in to the leader with main line

serch for fg knot or GT knot. Don't use swivel in between, they are more prone to cut the line when reaching certain stress

ocean exceller is selling in the range of Rm400-500. I would not recommend that reel as the spool prone to wobble due to the soft material worm shaft and gear mesh. My take would be on FreamJ. It should be in the range of Rm300-350. excluding line of course. Then plonk in JigMan X4 Pe4 line. You have ultimate ree to cover most of the fishing b jigging, popping and eve bottom

bro fookie,
you are right. No swivel or such between main and leader line.

FG knot is fairly easy to tie when you are familiar with it smile.gif It gives you the strongest knot compared to other knots. Not that other knots no good, each knot have their advantages over the other knot tying method. Some very bulky after tying but strong BUT not smooth casting. ou need to learn and experiment tying each of the knots then feel it.. smile.gif

bro Q is right too,
the same method is used to do bottom fishing

example
bottom fishing:
mainline-running singker-swivel(with or without snap)- leader-hook(s)

trolling and casting is like what I have advised you. smile.gif any small weight between lure and leader(or before leader) will hamper the presentation of the intended motion of the lure

hi all! i'm from klang and have been reading this thread for a bit. i'm really interested to take up fishing as a hobby. however, i'm a total noob. meaning, i have no rods, no knowledge, no nothing whatsoever on fishing.

so i was hoping if you guys could like teach me what to buy and where to go fish for the first time. it would be even better if any of you guys come along with me and give me some tunjuk ajar. thanks much!

Hi Matt,

Welcome to this small little hobby of fishing.. DO post any queries and i'm sure there are plenty of anglers here willing to help smile.gif

Since you want to start a fishing hobby, perhaps you want to share with us your fishing preference?

Salt or freshwater?
Paypond or natural places?
Baits or lures?

Hello there!

I think i prefer paypond for beginning lah. Cause i think it's easier to find also right? As for salt water and fresh water, what's the diff ah? I think.. both is also okay ah.. and as for baits or lures, both also no prob. I just wanna learn learn and try try so next time can fish when I'm free smile.gif

Hi Matt,

Reason i asked is because sometimes beginner is scary of the baits and such. smile.gif Myself more to luring... smile.gif

Where are you at? Perhaps we can hatch up a trip and we go fishing together

Added on April 7, 2008, 3:27 pmBro Ho,
