Bro, massage no need cross out and dun need the tour company or agent to arrange (unless you 're a water fish) Go for traditional thai massage, no hanky panky. Ladies in one room and men in the next. There are many good clean wholesome ones in Hatyai around your hotel. If you not adventurous type, just ask the hotel front desk and not the Thai tuk tuk/taxi or else you 'll end up in Holland void of pants.
I hate tour packages especially when part of their itinerary includes shops or manufacturing places. To me it is a big scam. The only one I like is Jim Thomson outlet.
*
how is this Hat Yai hotel? is it good a? haha. oh well, this is quite a big family tour with my relatives, and under such last minute planning, this is the best i could get la. laugh.gif

didn't know got so many temples in hat yai and songkhla. laugh.gif

Jim Thomson?oo sell what one. will google it.

by the way, what 3 pin plug adapter should i bring?

Err..you have not give the name of the hotel you are staying, so dunno good or not?

Most hotel there have our 3 pin plug point. To be on the safe side, bring a 2 pins converter. But these days most of our electrical apps and charger are 2 pin, no?

just received the latest itinerary. its Golden Crown Plaza hotel. how is it? i thought Hat yai hotel is a real hotel name laugh.gif

oh okay. nola..i got few things to charge...so might be bringing the multi port adapter... laugh.gif

Hat Yai is one hour faster than Malaysia time right? so the recommended food is hat yai is the pork? hmm.gif

Golden Crown, pretty decent hotel.
I was stuck at Hatyai for a few days due to flood a month back. Luckily the hotel staff is helpful and serve us food.

Time is one hour faster, and pork is nice compared to Malaysia.

As for massage, go for Lee Garden, a little bit pricey but clean.
*
my entourage consist of 9 ppl. one person rm249 excluding flight ticket. is it cheap? blush.gif

wow good to know that. 4 star hotel? laugh.gif ooo...what kind of pork? what style of cooking?

Lee garden..is it nearby my hotel? because according to my itinerary..at night no activities liao... sweat.gif and since following family..don think can go clubs all those unsure.gif

I can't comment on your tour price since we went by van, from Penang.

I think the hotel is 3 star.

As for pork dishes, you should try "deep fried pork leg".

You can walk to Lee Garden, you'll find fast food and you can also do some shopping there. Just a few streets away, 5 minutes walk.
*
okok. is it clean? laugh.gif

ok noted about the dish notworthy.gif Lee garden....ok thanks!!

My conclusion is most hawkers are very particular about how they serve food. Only in Thailand did I see hawker stall with a refrigeration system!

Pork leg stew rice or roasted pork knuckle or roasted suckling pig...etc. Dunno what is your group preference?
At night you can go good karaoke joint with your family mah, chance to renew family bonding! laugh.gif

Dunno forget to show- pics & comment, about your Hatyai experience in this thread also, ok zstan?

wow not bad. laugh.gif hmm all those pork dishes sounds interesting. drool.gif drool.gif karaoke? erm, what are the prices like? cheaper or more expensive than redbox? unsure.gif

haha no problem...i guess there's not much things to shop right? will take more pictures instead. laugh.gif

by the way, how is the english penetration there? i only know savadika. laugh.gif

got RINGGIT, penetration is super deep! Semua nya also boleh!

Karaoke prices I'm not too sure cos family type ones not familiar. blush.gif

There lots of good quality and cheap baju and pants to buy in Hatyai that you can't find in Malaysia even though it may be the same label/brand. The stitching and cutting some how is a lot better. I guess them Thais take pride in the things they do. Their small road are very well built, clean and well maintain. Hardly can find pot holes! It is so amazing!

BTW stay away from bird nest soup or dessert. It is a tourist scam.
*
wow ok that makes life easier. laugh.gif

oh...so which type are you familiar with? brows.gif icon_idea.gif

yeah i agree with that. i have a pirated adidas t-shirt. the material used is really really nice, like the ori one. rm10 only laugh.gif maybe can shop some new year clothes there.

bird nest is scam? y i see those tv show those people always go eat one? hmm.gif hmm.gif

http://zhishan90.blogspot.com/2010/12/hat-...10-preview.html

On the 26th-28th December, my family and I went to Hat Yai for a short holiday trip. It was pretty much a last minute trip and fortunately there were still ample seats on Air Asia.

As a mini summary for the trip, let's start with the weather. For the first two days, the weather is pretty much like in KL with the strong sunshine while on the last day(thankfully) did it start to drizzle a bit here and there.

The food here is very nice! Suitable to my liking although most of them are usually spicy. There are many unique delicacies that could not be found in Malaysia such as the coconut ice cream in a coconut, fried insects(no courage to try though =X) and so on. The tom yam and green curry is particularly delicious here too! Pricing wise....still not too bad la compared to Malaysia and is definitely cheaper than Seoul!

Shopping is also very cheap here! If you buy their made in Thailand clothings. Almost finished my Chinese New Year shopping here with just rm200! Buahahahaha. And almost everybody can speak English or Hokkien so its really easy to communicate and bargain prices. =D There is almost no chance to try and talk in Thai language.

Hat Yai is also quite happening where the shops still open till late night, especially in the red light districts! XP And i thought it would be very kampung-ish and boring from all the rumours i've heard on forums and the likes.

That's all i could summarise for now, as usual I will let my pictures to do the talking.

It is a men's paradise la. So much happening!
In that small town there are more 7-11 than the whole of Cheras!

haha dun need thank me la. my pleasure. laugh.gif heard from some of those people who went before lo. didn't really enjoy the 'men's paradise' part though. unsure.gif

My flight is at 12pm so we arrived at the airport at about 10.45am as we had check in the night before.

However, once we board to plane, the captain told us that the flight had to be delayed as the check in system for the passengers in the terminal has gone down! WTF?! So those people have to manually check in the passengers for TWO hours! Yes. I waited in the plane doing nothing for 2 bloody hours before we take off! =______= The worst part is the prettiest air stewardess on board is stationed behind while i was seated in front cry.gif

Finally at about 3pm, our flight touched down. The Hatyai International Airport was amazingly small though.

To make life easier we engaged a tour guide for our trip and he came with a van to pick us all up to the hotel.

http://zhishan90.blogspot.com/2011/01/haty...e-floating.html

At about 5pm Malaysian time, our tour guide picked us up in a van and we then visited the Klonghae Floating Market.

I was expecting that the 'market' were afloat on water and we had to use a sampan or some boat to visit the market but in actual fact, the 'stalls(boats)' were just parked at the shore.

Before we reached the 'floating' market, we had to pass through another night market as well. Many varieties of food and other stuff can be found here.

After people buy their food, they can be seated at tables like these in the picture which can found all over the market. Rubbish bins are also provided for the them to settle the leftovers. The culture here is nobody will help you to clean up your mess but you yourself have to clear everything on the table for the convenience of the next user. This applies in Mc Donald's as well! If only Malaysians can pick up 70% of these habits.........
