Celcom and Maxis may have to possibly pay RM1.7bil each for their spectrums under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) reallocation, says CIMB Equities Research.

It said on Tuesday that assuming an extra RM500mil to retune their networks and add more sites, the total RM2.3bil will shave 3.9% off its target price for Axiata and 4.6% off Maxis’s.

“DiGi will have to fork out RM1.1bil for the 1800MHz spectrum, which will reduce our target price by 2.7%. It will also have to pay RM647mil to attain the 900MHz but this could be offset by capex savings given the spectrum’s wider coverage,” it said.

Celcom - 2 x10MHz
Maxis - 2 x 10MHz
Digi - 2 x 5MHz

MCMC now still has 5MHz of 900MHz available for disposal - Probably this remaining band is for bidding process. The rest have been allocated so that the industry would still have the means to expand n grow its services.
