NIce capture of the eagle! Using AF or MF? This APO fast enough to track eagle?

AF-C. Fast enough, burst it through and get about 30% keepers.

shocking.gif shocking.gif

please tell me it is the person behind the camera that matters on this case,
before i ditch my d40 and get the sonya200 + Sigma APO.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

how you get so correct focus ? i tried burst last time when was at bird park, most of the time the focus was off, thus the eagle is blur..
using AF-C too.. rclxub.gif

my noob shot, after cant get proper pic, i focus at the trainer's hand and burst when the eagle's coming.. sweat.gif

I'd like to say it's the person (paiseh) but the fact is, it's the camera. A200 is having the same focus motor as A700 and the focusing speed is 1.7x speedier than A100. If compares to S3IS, I think it's at least 3 times faster.

Many has claimed that the poor-man-zoom-lens Sigma 70-300mm is slow on focusing, but it's fast enough on A200 for me to capture what I want.

#1 and #5 SUPERB! The feathers just have this glow. I can't imagine how much sharper it would be if it was at F8 or F11! Still, it's amazing what it looks like wide open.

It might be slow on Canon/Nikon body .... no USM, no AF-S, no HSM .... but with Sony in-body focus motor... it's fast brows.gif

Nah, still miles away. His duck got the detail, while mine lack of it due to the distance, insufficient focal length, and "cheap' glass.

Juza uses 400mm prime + 1.4X TC for his bird shots. The "400mm L" alone is more expensive than my whole gear collection!

The focus is fast enough for an eagle, so I guess horses shall be no problem.

Maybe not in the next few months because I've managed to capture what I want: The Mandarin Duck. Which is actually what I wanted to do for so long, sort of influenced by Juza.

#13 is SUPERB!

#14 has an interesting desaturated effect around on the water.

These are very unconventional angles of ducks which help throw the shallow DOF on the water. I'll have to try these next time I shoot ducks (er, not the Elmer Fudd way.)

Oh and there's a Tamron 2x teleconverter in J-One, Amcorp Mall, that gets you to 600mm (which passes a 400mm x 1.4). You may experience some quality loss but stop down even more, as I see you can afford it in the lighting that you shot the ducks in.

#20 is interesting too, what a icy cool bird.

D300? It's a higher class body. If this lens works for A200, there's no reason it can't work with yours.

great shots, some seem under-exposed / dark but i definitely loved the shots of the hawks or whatever BOP in mid-air, tried to get that in KL BP but all attempt failed *i sucks!*

still #1 is my fav among your series.

#13 and #14 are nice but i find the background distracting / end abruptly, i prefer to have the water stretched all the way back.

nice shot. i personally find the Sigma 70-300 looks sharper than my Tamron 70-300.
