I made a mistake once by selecting "Manually transfer blah blah blah"....
I couldn't get my ringtones onto the phone. Then I tried dragging the ringtones directly into the iPhone's ringtone folder... it got in.... but any additional ringtones added will erase the first one. heheheh.. Then i realised my mistake.... and unclick the "Manually transfer....", then it was smooth sailing all the way. By the way, managed to make ringtones up to 40seconds. Really difficult to make a cut within such a short frame time. |

actually i think the method still works, it is just that you MUST ensure that the file is 40 seconds or less. Or it just will not be recognised.
I'm running 1.1.4 and it works fine with files under 40 secs. |

i tried to use iRinger, i even managed to send it to iphone, but then when i want to choose the ringtone, it doesn't appear at all. so basically i m using iRinger to cut out the section. was so frustrated figuring out how to make custom ringtone until i see the above post.
hmm, i wonder if the new 3G iphone is also so troublesome, and only less than 40sec, it can't even be 39.5sec. |

I would usually recommend iRinger. Sure its preset to only make 30sec ringtone ... heck ... who would want a whole song as a ringtone. I don't think anyone would wait for u to pick up the phone for more than 30 sec.
Why i recommend iRinger? Coz its by far the easiest one around (my opinion la ... others i don't know). U can put fade in fade out (which u can't do with the itunes trick) and it can automatically upload to itunes and no need to rename the filetype from m4a to m4r. Then u just sync the ringtones in itunes (check the ringtones tab). Added on April 20, 2008, 2:35 am QUOTE(Imzadi @ Apr 16 2008, 01:55 AM) Ya, am using iTunes 7.6.2.9. it does have the Ringtone category at the side but I still can't use the m4r that I created on my iPhone. Even tried putting it straight into my iPhone with iPhonebrowser but the actual m4r that I made can't be heard! how did u create the m4r? if by using the itunes trick (select the start and stop time in get info), then u need to convert the file to AAC first. Example ... u have song A in itunes ... u open 'get info' and got to Option tab ... set the 'start time' and 'stop time' to the desired time and press ok. Once done ... right click again at song A and 'convert selection to AAC'. Then u'll have 2 song A in itunes. One is the full length song and the other is the one u set the length. u can see from the 'time' column in itunes. Then pick the one u just convert and right click ... copy and paste to ur desktop. The file should be something like A.m4a ... u need to rename the file extension from A.m4a to A.m4r. Then in itunes ... click file ... add file to library ... go to desktop and find A.m4r. It will automatically put the ringtone in the ringtones category. If its not in there then the file is not a ringtone format that itunes recognize.Still i suggest using iRinger coz of its simplicity. If u still in 1.1.2 and below ... u need to patch the MeCCA framework to enable custom ringtone thats more than 30 sec. This post has been edited by frozzbyte: Apr 20 2008, 02:39 AM |

I tried the 1st method using itunes on page 1 and made ringtones of 38 seconds each which were recognized and played by itunes (latest version 7.6). But when I press Sync, the ringtones doesnt appear in iphone. I tried with a 28 seconds ringtone too (played in itunes) but still the same. What should I do?? Any suggestions??

the best way is to use iRinger...
just import a song and export it, directly on your iTunes ringtone folder and simply sync it to your iphone... |

QUOTE(futobuta @ Mar 1 2008, 07:56 PM) 1. Add the mp3 into iTunes. i don't get step 7, can you plz help and explain more detail. thx loads2. Right click on mp3 and select "Get Info". 3. Select "Options" tab and adjust the time u want the song to start n stop, all within 40sec. Then press OK. 4. Then right click and select "Convert Selection to AAC". 5. After a new file has been created, go back to step 2 and unclick the 'start' and 'stop' options, then press OK. 6. Drag the new file out to your desktop. And delete the file in iTunes. 7. Change the filetype of the new file on the desktop from .m4a to .m4r 8. Doubleclick the newly named .m4r file and it will automatically be added onto your iTunes' ringtone folder. 9. Then just sync with your iPhone lor...... Anymore problem ah? |

QUOTE(lottiecc @ Jul 20 2008, 02:33 PM) I assume that you managed to create a new .m4a file until Step 6. Let it be... abcd.m4a for example. So, lets proceed to Step 7.Step 7 in detail: Open "My Documents". Click on "Tools" and select "Folder Options". Inside Folder Options, click on "View" tab. Under Advanced Settings, look for "Hide extensions for known file types" and Uncheck it. By default it is checked. Click on Apply and OK. Come back to the desktop where your abcd.m4a file is saved. Rename the abcd.m4a file to abcd.m4r A dialog box will appear to confirm the rename, click Yes. Double-click on the new abcd.m4r file and it will be automatically played directly in iTunes in Ringtones section. Make all the ringtones you want (each of 38 seconds) and save them in a separate folder "Ringtones" on desktop. Select all the ringtones files (.m4r) and press Enter. All the files will appear in iTunes Ringtones section. Connect your iPhone and Sync the ringtones. Good Luck!
