that's the DCIM mode, where u can only copy snapped pictures on iPhone into the computer. if u wanna transfer pictures into iPhone, make sure u have set a folder containing pictures/picture folder on your computer (if on windows). and then when u connect your iPhone to the computer, select Photos tab from the iPhone page. specify the location of your folder, and then iTunes will sync your pictures.
